How many of you are motivated by "name in lights"?

I'd like to see messages removed, I think the "quality of play" could only improve  :aok

That would be a valid argument if the question what to add it or not, but what's the point of removing it?

What exactly do you mean by quality of play improving?

In most cases players will do anything to get the required 2 kills to get their name in lights. Vulch, bomb gvs, ho, gang, what ever it takes.

Removing the name in lights won't stop that behavior, but it might slow it down there by increase better game play

:aok  probably right jugler. seems to be a big motivator for some of the behavior even since i started here. if i had a nickel for every time i've seen some late war monster pickin and runnin only to see the name in lights a few minutes later i could pay my subscription for a year.

But I think the "in lights" message may also be a reason for players to stay in fight for "just one more", especially if a player only has one kill (2 kills is actually an achievement for most players). BTW, only a minority of fighter sorties are being landed at all...

I think that would still continue. People will still want to land their airplane and not get shot down even if no one will see their name in lights. Personally I'd rather land with 0 kills than get shot down with 2, and I don't think I'm the only ones who's like that.

True but it also promotes timid and gang type play. I actually think it would reduce the player base as there are very "few" who care less about validating their achievements across system messaging. less player base would be bad  :headscratch: The over-riding desire for the not so "few" youth to be "seen" is paramount to their experience. the youth would need to wait till the end of tour stats to revel in their validation  :aok

The only ones who stick around are those with plenty of alt or those with plenty of friends, usually they enjoy both of these advantages
Those of us willing to stick around "without" the advantages are repeatedly sent to the tower by those mentioned above, once in a while you run into a quality engagement but these instances are becoming "fewer and fewer"

Tis the world we live in, it is a microcsym of society, "most want it all" for very little to NO risk or effort! This mindset also diminishes the potential reward  :(

I can se where you are coming from JUG but at the same time it's a nice feeling when you land 8 kills and get people to give you a WTG and such. I think that the name in lights should not be removed but possibly increased to 5 kills instead to represent being a one flight Ace

<S> just what I think

This might work, but it might just make people re-arm more.

Juggler, why dont you show us what you mean by not landing any kills, you can auger, ditch whatever.  I mean if it bothers you that much, then 1 less "juggler has landed x kills" would be appreciated  :neener:.

Yep, this.

Anything less (like it is today with needing only two kills) spams the buffer and dilutes such achievements.  Increasing to 5 (as in a single-sortie Ace status) would be a little more rare and make it mean more.

I've seen guys run from an engagement after popping their second kill - even with a superior plane and alt/E advantage - just to go land to see their name in lights.

Is that really a bad thing to rearm more? I think that would be an upgrade to the game. Currently rearming isn't used by many people because they would rather just land 2 kills or 3 kills a flight and get a new plane. This would make it so they would have something more to work for. Plus I think currently rearm pads arnt used as much as they could.

I would rather keep current system then have NO name in lights at all. Call me egotistical but I really like it when I finally land some kills and get a WTG I know a lot of you exelent pilots just don't care about lights anymore but many of us not so good (terrible fighter pilots like myself) like to have a pat on the back when I get something right.

But I would enjoy the single sortie ace system even more  :aok

Couldn't it be that increasing the requirement from 2 to 5 kills would just increase the perceived "timidness"? And further, wouldn't the impact be less on those few players whose names seem to implied in this thread, as opposed to the average Joe who is glad of getting his two kills in the lights once every blue moon?
