took me no time at all to get the hang of TrackIR 5 and now hat switches just feel wrong...

it's just so much easier to keep track of multiple cons, and way more intuitive and natural feeling when dogfighting. plus i find it improves my aim in some indefinable way :headscratch:

The two things I like about it are, in a 'blackout tunnel' you have the ability to still keep eyes on the bandit, and the other is the way your head tilts I find it makes it easier to get a mental picture of what's going on around me.  I've got the roll axis set to be 1:1, so if I tilt my head in a turn to keep the horizon level on the monitor, it tilts the correct amount to level the horizon.  There's just something I can't define that makes it easier to keep track of what I'm doing with that for some reason.  I don't question it too much, I just use it. :)

Calibrating it is a real pain, as lulu said, but it's by far the most important thing to determining whether you will like it or hate it.  Your TrackIR profile is probably the most individual setting you can make in the game, even more so than your joystick button setup.

Keep an eye out where you buy it, I generally look at amazon for deals (I just bought a Thrustmaster Warthog for $400, but had a $50 discount from the website and free shipping, ended up paying $350 for it, also it was shipped the same day.

I seen a deal for Track IR V5 for $110 plus free shipping (Down from $150) but wasn't able to get it in time :(

ALSO make sure its not one of those crappy websites that order it from somewhere else and takes 2 weeks to ship, almost got fooled the first time I bought my Thrustmaster.

Pretty much what everyone has said.

I have Track IR 7 with the old style hat clip (TIR 5, iirc), and love it. Would never and could never fly with hat switches.

If Track IR or some similar head tracking set-up were not available, I would not fly. Period.

I have a Thrustmaster Warthog on the way to me now, I think I'm going to bite the bullet try using the Track IR again, rather than re-teach my fingers the view buttons that I had on my CH prothrottle.

Is there a big difference between the TrackIR 4 and the TrackIR5? I have a 4, but I'd be willing to buy a 5 if the difference (even slight) made the viewing better.

I only know one guy who used a 4 and went to a 5.  He said it was a bit smoother.  My dollar to performance threshold wasn't reached based on what he had to say about it, but YMMV.

The one thing I'll mention from firsthand experience, if you are using the TIR4 with v4 software, I highly recommend you upgrade to the v5 software.  It's available for free download from their website.  It's much, much easier to work with and it has been more stable for me.  You have to redo your profile, but it's much easier to do, and it seemed to me to work better.  Maybe it was just because I was able to get my profile how I wanted it better, I'm not sure.

I just ordered a 5, should be here about the same time the Warthog is. Between taking huge breaks from AH, a new stick, and the TrackIR- I will be flying like a 2 weeker (more than normal) again.

I have a 4 with the clip.  I love it.  I use the 5 software but didn't use it for the longest time because it would randomly crash on me.  The final version of the 5 software finally works stable for me so I'm happy.

Reaper, TrackIr 7?  I think you're mistaken...

You're right, it's 5 and 4, not 7 and 5. I have the same setup as you, I have the 5 software and the clip that came with the 4 when I bought it.  :salute

I have a TIR4 that I bought a year ago but only used it for a week. I was having problems trying to look behind me.

I found that if I reset all the custom views for a plane using the "home" then "F10" keys for each view, then the trackIR panning was nice and smooth, but it was really hard to look around the headrest to see behind me. I would turn my head to see the 6 view, then when I tried to lean to see around the headrest the thing would stop tracking and get stuck.

If I set custom views so that the back-left and back-right views already looked around the headrest then I found that trackIR seemed to "snap" to those views instead of smoothly panning with head movement, which I found really annoying.

I could never get the right setup so I gave up after a while, and went back to the old left hand on the numeric keypad for views.

Do you guys clear all the custom saved views for each plane when using trackIR?

Whats new Del? I am getting a new system, warthog and track ir 5...... first thing on the list: find the nearest horde, dive through it and auger like a boss.

/frankly I won't be getting any kills anytime soon anyway i've been out of the game over a month.

That is usually due to light interference behind you.. or your reflectors (or clip) are tracking outside of the camera area.

I have my TIR mounted vertically on the left side of my monitor and I wear my track clip on the left side of my headset.  The light behind me is just outside of the camera's view so it works out perfectly.

I used to have working TrackIR.

I no longer have working TrackIR.
I no longer play Aces High.

Just to give you an idea.
