any dentists in here?
« on: February 16, 2012, 05:59:51 PM »
so my daughter went to the dentist today, shes almost 2.  she fell and chipped her top front tooth is the reason she went.  She came out with a SILVER GRILL   I didnt go with her was working, the dentist told the wifey that she had a couple cavities forming on the lower teeth so he crowned all her lower teeth.  But was looking online and one place said that they only crown severly rotten teeth and her teeth are far from rotten. I know that they fall out but a totally silver mouth. WTF!!

Weird, I'm no dentist or no health professional, but this certainly doesn't sound normal.  Multiple cavities forming before age 2!  Either you feed her exclusively sweet tarts and soda, her teeth are abnormally weak, or the dentist wanted to make a little extra money.

Again, far from a professional on this, I hope someone comes along who knows what they're talking about.

Aspen Dental?
Bummer deal though. She won't even have them much longer at 2, those will fall out anyway.

i am not certain of the validity of this, but i have been told that it is important for a child to keep their baby teeth for as long as possible, the baby teeth guide in the adult teeth and help them stay straight or something like that......

again like i said, i dont know if that is a valid certified truth.

Dentist wrecked my back teeth for extra cash when i was 16, im sure of it. Maybe i needed a bit of work but what he did was way over the top. I don't trust dentists.

Dentist have a bad habit of making things sound worse than they are or just claiming things are amiss for a quick buck.

About 8 years ago, when my nephew was about 4, he was hit in the mouth by a football or some other kind of ball.  It killed one of his upper fronts.  I can't remember all the particulars, but I remember it wasn't as simple as pulling it early, because of what Floatsum said.  Think he eventually had to go to an orthodontist to keep his teeth straight, and he was only about 5 or 6.

I cracked one of my back molars last week, and they started the capping process yesterday morning.  It's not pleasant.

That stuff isn't cheap.  The crown for me is $650, but insurance takes care of about half of it.  He said if I need a root canal, it would be another 750.  I could of had it pulled for $50.  However, since i'm 48 years old and still have all my teeth, I would do my part and keep the tooth count per Oklahoman up.   :)

We all know that you only have to have 2 teeth to be above average in Oklahoma  :neener:

first and last time I went, had a wisdom tooth pulled.  he stitched my cheek to my gum couldnt open my mouth, so I stretched it out and cut the stitches out myself, for a grand total of 16 1/2 inches of thread for 1 tooth :O and still have all of it as a keepsake lol

I had a crown done a few months back. They matched the color of the tooth so it looks like a tooth. No silver stuff.

Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

That sucks dude.  I had 4 pulled last month with no stitches.  Went skiing in the mountains 4 days later.  I was comfortably numb for a good 2 days though.  :aok
