Aces High in Japanese!
« on: December 27, 2012, 06:42:10 AM »
Warbirds is swiping all Aces Highs potential Japanese customers having been translated into Japanese, was talking to a Japanese player Hayabusa about it this morning, considering the lull in the MA numbers at this time in the morning it would be a good start to beefing them up.

I don't know how complicated it would be to do, but perhaps a simple text file with all the text linked to it in some way that can be user edited, and therefore downloaded from a forum or the website and replace the english version, instantly changing all the menus etc into a different language?

HTC doesn't even need to provide support in that language just put it forward as a community thing. I do find it amazing that a game this good has so little non English speakers shall we say? If you look at the vast majority of the community they are USA, UK, Australian all English speaking countries, or people who speak very good english, look how many Russians are in the game! Virtually none, how many of the Australians and Kiwis are gonna keep logging on in their timezone if there are low numbers in the MA?

Only curiosity prompts me to ask.

Having a different language version won't help a lot when it comes to vox and chat buffer.

Gotta seriously consider if the ROI is worth putting in the time.

Quite frankly I couldn't give a stuff if there was people talking in a different language they all make the same sound when your shooting them down

AAAAAAAAAAARRGHHHHHHHHH!  :rofl

To have a populated arena at slow parts of the day is worth the outlay imo

How can you assure that this will guarantee a populated arena, though?  Perhaps they would still laugh and say "eff you" to HTC and their game...

This could turn into quite an expansive discussion about there being no guarantees in life, without being insulting I don't really get your argument here.

But won't our friends in France, Germany, Chili, Finland, etc., etc., etc. then feel left out and want their own version?

Where should it end?

He beat me to it.

Where does it end?  There are plenty of players here that have English as a second language, yet still manage to do just fine in the game.

Since there is no "documentation" per se, what exactly needs translating that google cannot do to the website on the fly, aside from a few controls in the game?

Without any guarantees, of course, how many more subscriptions would you postulate this would add to the players base, in relation to, the cost to implement the option?

Isn't that the point? Are you saying Aces High should not need more customers here? I'm confused

Man this is a really hillbilly view of the world if you don't mind me saying so. I speak English so everyone else has to do the same  :rofl If the entire Aces High game was in Russian you wouldn't play it or try and figure it out, would you go and learn Russian to play Aces High?

Nope, I'm still asking, not saying.

Consider it as hill-billy as you like, this is not a world view of mine.  If I were to purchase a Russian-made product, as per your example,  it would be quite arrogant of me to expect them to make an English version to suit me without taking stock of what the ROI would be.  Just as well, if I visit Germany, even though most Germans speak or understand some English, I would try to be able to understand/speak as much German as possible before going.

Since you have conjured up this idea, I am just asking the normal questions that any sane business person would ask.

* How intensive would you go (how many languages)?

* How much  money and man-hours (same thing as money) would it cost?

* How many more subscribers would it net?

* Would it be worth the returns gained?

I'm asking what your best educated guesses are, as these are legitimate business questions.

+1 we don't need HTC to make the translation themselves, just the game text to be editable so that players can make the translation themselves.

I'd happily traduce the game to french, and I can tell you it would help newcomers a lot to get addicted to the game

That would be a big help on reducing the overhead of this idea.

How many of the 33 players in the arenas at this moment would you wager are French, and how many of those that are French do you think it would entice to come to AH2?  If players volunteer for these things, the ROI would probably be almost 100%
