Nope on any pirated software, P2P, or any stupid file sharing programs.

Take a brand new install of windows, connect to the internet, go to google, and explain why markmonitor shows up as an multiple endpoints in a "whois".

You surely won't be educating someone on "computers 101" who got his first microsoft certifications on DOS 6, Win3.1, WinNT3.1 and has hardware experience going back to the altair 8080 and software experience going back to Altair Basic.

Actually I just upgraded my computer with new hardware and installed a fresh Win7 installation on it. I was really "surprised" to find there are no connections to markmonitor or any other non-microsoft endpoint for that matter. In fact there are a total of zero connections anywhere after windows updates stop running.

If I open the Google web page I get two additional connections, both ending to 'Google Inc'.

You probably have spyware on your computer ;) Did you perhaps make the installation from an OEM install disc? That would imply your brand computer comes with embedded spyware straight out of the box. Congratulations! :D

I got a bud who is convinced planes are spraying barium all over the place....  I've known him for a long time and he is not a bad guy, just fell into this hoax... I'm kind of stumped on how to pull him back to reality.

Tell your bud not to worry, those "chemtrails" have no effect on humans, they are actually used to control the weather by DARPA who is under command of the luminatti ....LOL.. say it to him with a serious face.. it will help him. :D

Ripley.............this happens on all computers when at google and many other sites.

I recently bought a new drive and decided to do a brand new install from genuine registered microsoft windows installation discs.

I connected to the internet a single time and did a "whois" and found nothing.

I then went to google's main page and markmonitor shows up as an endpoint.

I performed a new installation on yet another disc I had around, connected to the internet through my cell phone instead of wifi, and find the exact same thing.

Believe me when I say I am able to use deductive reasoning with computers and troubleshoot symptoms because that was my life for many years.

This markmonitor is not on the computer but rather at various sites like google........which is well known to the public.

Please try to believe that the only connections made when going to Google.inc are Google.inc and no connections to markmonitor. If you use internet explorer, then you get a gazillion of connections to whatever. No sensible person uses IE however.

After a clean boot:

When at Google frontpage:

See? No markmonitor, only Google.inc. The UDP port at the bottom is created by Punkbuster (ok, so not a 100% clean install anymore ;) )

Ah now I see.. LOL! So you think that because the website of Google itself resolves to markmonitor, we're being somehow spied? LOL!

You do understand that every search you make to Google is archived and analyzed by Google anyway? LOL!

You have your concepts mixed up - only the computers who connect to Google services of which name services are provided by markmonitor, a company probably owned by Google, are 'monitored' by markmonitor. Without connection to services hosted to Google, markmonitor is not connected in the pathway in any way.

"probably" means you didn't do enough research to comment.

You should probably retract some of the statements you made above.

Markmonitor is not owned by google but google is allowing them to piggyback in order to facilitate checking google users for unlicensed software, music, and movies.

Google is only one of many sites where this occurring.

Here is the full resolution of one of the IP addresses provided in your screenshot above.
