There were only 4 or 5 planes in here when I started, gravitated to the N1k, flew it for quite a while. I fly lots of different aircraft now but kind of partial to the 109's.

I started in the P38J . . . trained extensively in it with DrSpek.

Shortly after was trained in the Spitfire 9 (My Pink Steed)

Then began 109K4 training with DrBone before I vanished. . .

In the years I have been playing I switched around in the aircraft learning their weaknesses and such.

I honestly don't recall the first few I flew in, because it was so long ago. However I do recall that I enjoyed gunning for lanc buddies on long HQ raids, and for fighters some of my earliest "fond" memories include F4us and some P-51Bs.

AW didn't matter what fighter I tried...same result failure!   AH found the only way to get initail success was from a PT boat platform. I learned to shoot.   Well if you put a PT boat in the air you'd call it a B17.  999000 <S>

La7. I figured that the plane being so good would make the flaws in my flying most obvious.

Lol. When I tried flying fighters (N1K at 1st) I'd get so excited my hands would shake, making accurate aiming impossible. Add to that a quick realization that I had poor situational awareness and 3D thinking and I, like you, realized I was going to have to try something else (i.e., bombers). I've yet to achieve your uncanny accuracy, but I think I'm making slow but steady progress....
We've bumped into each other 2x--B17s vs Ki67s once, and B26 vs B26 the other time. You won both battles, but at least I took some of your drones down with me. Looking forward to the day we bump into each other again!

I started out in my very first months in the F6F and F4F because they were always my favorite planes when I was younger and then for a few years went through just about every plane in the plane set flying them each exclusively for a couple weeks at a time, from the 190A5 to the Mossi to the Niki to the 109G6 so on and so on. I always have to have a favorite but could never settle on one plane so I got to learn the ins and outs of most planes. Then after a while I settled on the Spit9 and flew that for a few months, then went to the 51, took a 2 year break, and have flown the 51 ever since coming back. It's just the quintessential World War 2 fighter and I enjoy the history behind it as well.

I grew up fascinated by the Battle of Britan and the ensuing European air war so when I signed up for AW 17 years ago my first choice was the Spit IX which I flew religiously (My brother was at my house one day and I actually got him to try playing.  We were in a Pacific arena and he chose the Hellcat.  More on that later) so I came to AH and stuck with the Spit IX.

When the Spit lineup was expanded the 2x20mm, 2x.50 cal package was eliminated from the IX but reappeared on the XVI.  I didn't like the .303's so switched to the XVI.

Along the way I've flown the entire planeset to at least a 2:1 K/D ratio in one camp on a few occasions in order to learn every plane at least rudimentally.

So where am I today?  Here's my top flown planes (roughly in order) although now I play so little it might take months to get to the lower on the list:

Spit IX (Fighter)
FW190A-8 (Fighter/Buff Hunter)
F6F-5 (I told you we'd get back to it... Fighter/Attack)
Bf109K-4 (Fighter)
Lancaster (Bomber)

Honorable mention (other planes I like to fly on occasion):

A6M2, AR234, Bf-110G-2, Boston, D3A-1, F4F-4/FM2, Ju-87, Ki-61, Me-163, P-38G, Spit V, Spit XVI

Demented at such a young age...

In the beginning I flew anything that had tons of ammunition. like the Fw 190 A-8. I recall being laughed at almost literally rolling on the floor when I upped a 190 straight up like a rocket, then when the thrust ran out I came down like a lift, tail first. Later I have been flying almost entirely the Bf 109 G-6 with gondolas. The stiffness of it makes an excuse for my poor skills, but in case I hit something there'll be a big hole.

Spit16 for a month because even the dumbest newb could find some success in that.
Then 109 G6 from 2010 September to 2012 May.
Since that, 190 D9 only.

I started on the P-47 (really rough learning curve  :cry), and can now fly anything but P-38's and Typhoons comfortably. Well, and the 262 and 163, but most struggle with those as well.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

My very first week was in a Spit V because the player who got me into AH (Stimpy) said I should start with something easy even tho' I'd been sim flying offline for years.  Hated it, too slow and everyone just ran away.

Switched to the 190D and pretty much flew it almost exclusively for three years.  Got pretty good in it, but admittedly it was all BnZ for the most part (tho' I'd do some ACM when the need arose).  In all I feel those years were not completely wasted, as the Dora both is and is not the easiest plane for a noob to get kills in  i.e. easy to BnZ...not so much so turning and burning down low.

Switch over on a dare to the 51 and realized why people who flew it landed so many kills.  Sheesh....for someone who flies Doras the Pony is a BnZ dream come true...but it got boring as well.

When I went "DA-only" for a few years I flew the Seafire almost exclusively....wanted to turn and burn and I still love her.

Now I pretty much fly anything....I gravitate towards one plane or another for a few months, then get bored and try something else.  Not sure if this is a good practice or not....but I have fun so who cares, eh?
