When I thought of WW2 aircraft I always assumed the P-51d was the pinnacle of prop aircraft development. Having served after the war and shooting down a jet fighter it had to be the best no?
Flew the La-7 for awhile even though back in 2003 you were ostracized for flying one by the vets of the time. Now it seems to have shifted to the spits mostly. The la la really taught you to conserve ammo and the noob in me would find empty guns very quickly.  :uhoh
Like the 190's now even though they are outclassed by many rides which makes the kills even more enjoyable.  :D
Have the 190's have been slowed down and the p-51's, F4u's, Spits, Yak3's overmodeled?

It don't matter to me. :old:

Like most I wanted to fly the 51D but found it hard to get kills in. So I flew a niki for the first year as it has big guns, lots of rounds and turns fairly well. Then I went back to the 51D and stayed in it for the next 4 or 5 years, occasionally flying the P38s. Now I've recently transitioned to the P47s. Will probably fly those for the next couple of years and then go to the 109s and P38s.

I started out in EW with 109F-4 but once I started flying in the MA I used the P-51D. I do a lot of ords porking and the 51D can kill all four ords at a large base with just the MGs and two 500 ponders and fly home. You can fly it like you stole it and nothing breaks or falls off and only a few other planes can match the speed of the P-51D. I have fired thousands of rounds of 50cal in real life and I feel the 50s killing power in Aces High is a bit low. The 50cal is a round that out performs what it says on paper in my experience.

I started in tanks and bombers.  First fighter sorties were in JUGS.  I haven't changed since tour 50.

The A6M5B is my go-to.  And it was what helped me understand alot about fighting 1v1 and strategizing.  It can do most anything you ask, it's only real weakness is you don't want to get hit much, and it's not very fast if something tries to run.  It's the plane that got me really thinking about how to get on people's six more quickly, and how to turn a bad fight my way.  When you do get in bad fights they usually last longer, teaching you more.

I learned how to use flaps and flap turn in a NIK.  Though the F4U is probably good for that too.  190-D is good for learning to pick things off of bigger fights, and using the advantage of speed.  LA-7 helped me adjust to front wing slats in an easier way than 109's in my opinion.  The combo of learning 190 and LA-7 made 109's alot easier to fly.

I started with the Zero knowing it was the best turner....flew that for a couple months...got sick of always being put on fire jumped around until I found the Hurri2C, flew that almost exclusively for 2 plus years...got sick of it being out run from every one.... started looking again for a faster plane that still fought well and found the Ki84.....been hooked ever since...although in the years playing I have flown all the fighters, to learn them.

Started out with the Seafire and the Hurricane 2C as they are slower planes and I found them easier to control. Plus, the hispano cannons made it easier to take down an enemy once I finally got on someones 6. Stayed with the slower turn fighters in the beginning, graduating to the A6M5 Zero as I figured I could at least out turn my enemy if nothing else. The early 109's are kind of fun also, 109E and 109F as they are pretty good turners and fairly easy to control. Took me a while to get graduate to the speed planes.

My first tour (tour 24), I flew the Spitfire Mk.V at first. I guess I did okay, because I managed 78 kills for 46 deaths as a rank noob. Flying the Zero that tour, the score wasn't so good at 80 kill, 90 deaths. But, I would repeatedly up from a capped field despite getting vulched. I finished my first tour with a 0.93/1 K/D. That was the only tour where I was under 1 to 1. I wasn't a very good shot, and had no ACM skills. I did, however, have good SA and was smart enough to pick fights where I had a chance to win, and avoid getting ganged often. I was also an unabashed cherry picker...

I flew the K4 to begin with. I liked the rate of climb and the speed. Besides, the toughest gun to sort out is the tater, figured if I got good in the K4 at flying and aiming, all other irplanes in the game would be easier.

Ran down a guy in a U4, the whole time he was bragging on 200 ... go away 109, etc .... caught him and tatered him, it was awesome.

Turn the stall limiter off, find a plane that has a singular performance edge and learn to exploit its strengths. Good luck.  :airplane:

Judging by the way most people fly in the MA I'm thinking most start out in p51/f4u/la7 with stall limiter on. I've said it before and I'll say it again, noobs should start out in something that they can't run away in if they want to learn how to fight.

I was just looking at my stats for tour 34...

I flew the SBD as a fighter quite a bit, and finished with 62 kills in the SBD (55 of them aircraft) and 22 deaths... What was I thinking?  :headscratch:
