I'm sorry to be the naysayer, but AH is a casual-sim. That's OK though, because that's exactly what AH should be, and I'm sure HiTech would agree. There are study-sims out there and borderline study-sims like DCS World, Cliffs of Dover (with 3rd party updates), Falcon 4 (with 3rd party updates), and others...

Obviously this kind of fidelity and detailed simulation is overkill for a MMO. The learning curve is already steep in AH...

I agree.... But it is hardly "most realistic" ...

I can not speak to DCS , but to call any of the IL2 stuff realistic is laughable.

You confuse button pushing with realism of flight.

I'll take your word for it HiTech, though I don't consider Il2 a study sim, just a casual one which is why it wasn't on my list. AH is right where it needs to be in my honest opinion, apart from the visuals and sound, but you're working on that.  :aok

first time I was in a plane I was a baby...second time I was 40.....

I flew the super decathlon(sp?)

not only did I fly it but I took off... did some High G maneuvers....

flew it like a champ, the guy who took me up was very surprised at how well I flew it...

before we rolled he started to explain all the gauges....I beat him to it and explained them to HIM.... :D

the 2 differences to me...

the rudder peddles were much stiffer...

and G forces very much mess with your body if you are not used to them :rofl :rofl :rofl

where is the puking emotocon....... :cry

I have absolutely NO doubt that Aces High taught me how to fly a plane.(obviously not everything...there is to know...:-)

I will say..... I know I am not supposed to be envious....

but all you that get to and have flown all your life's or do it as a job....

thats the one thing in this world I am envious of.....not even old MOPARS make me envious....could be I owned one for a long time and only flew one plane one time....

but I wish I could have had a life like that.

and for you doubting mustafa's

my 40th Birthday....talking to the guy/kid (who was 22 :O)who would be bringing me up...

the beast

could have bought this...for IIRC 45G's

I think we were discussing ACM tactics...he... the "guy" grew up flying planes...turned out his dad was a aerobatic instructor :rock made me feel much better  :rofl

the parachute made me feel even better then his knowledge  :rofl

Last pic....me explaining the gauges... :rofl  was so excited to go up...I never grabbed the camera for some aerial shots from the wife when she left :cry :cry :cry

I think Hitech was including cliffs of dover as "Il2 stuff" for the flight model.

I hope not, because they're vastly different.

When I look for realism I am looking at the flight model.  The systems model is very secondary.

IL-2's flight model was a pathetic joke.  Not sure about Cliffs of Dover as I've never played it.

AH is not the most realistic aircraft game on the net, but it is in my opinion the best compromise between realism and playability. Especially for a MMO.

Sometimes it is debatable what's realistic and what is not.

Take Hitech's engine modeling-You get your minutes of WEP, and then it gets flipped off automatically. Is this perfectly realistic? Obviously not. But then again, having an engine fail after say, 15 minutes of WEP, is probably not realistic either, in light of the way engines were sometimes hot-rodded during the war. But online fighter pilots fly half hour sorties, and they have NO concern for engine life and the like concerns. Which is to say, if you modeled engines realistically, everybody would for the most part effectively have infinite WEP. So which is more realistic? An engine failure that isn't very plausible or an automatic system which forces the player to limit themselves to book WEP limits? I think the latter. This is one example of choice Hitech has made which may seem less realistic at first glance, but I think arguably makes things MORE realistic.
