On the other hand, at least here in the USA hatred for Islam is spreading like wildfire on social media. Mostly nonsense but pll dont take the time to fact  check anything these days  and rising ignorance and lack of education with the youth is not exactly helping. I am really surprised this has not happened in USA yet, I think its only matter of time, the mosque shooting that is.

As sad this is it did not come as a surprise at all unortunately.

There are some sick folks out there. We used to take folks with mental issues and place them in an institution. Bleeding hearts preferred they be out where no one notices when they are falling off the earth. With no help..... we see this kind of tragedy.

Shuff I'm going to disagree with you on this one.  I've worked with folks in crisis since 1979.  The budgets started getting cut during Ronnie's reign and have been going down ever since.  We used to have the mental health beds to use.  They are long gone and the waiting list at hospitals to get into the few we have is lengthy.  In the best times we were getting to folks before it was too late.  But that's been disappearing since the late 80s. 

We are driven by money and profit, and there isn't any in taking care of those who can't afford to pay for it.  So they end up getting lost and forgotten until something like this happens.  We as a society have to make this a priority, but that means putting our money where are 'thoughts and prayers" are and providing the resources to help those folks who can't help themselves.

In the current climate, with more cuts proposed and on the horizon, I doubt we'll do anything but 'thoughts and prayers", and bemoan the system while we hold tight to our wallets like we do every time this stuff happens.

Did you notice how he described himself in his Manifesto? Used terms WE hear alot, here. Too me it seems John Brown-ish? He wanted to fight Slavery by starting a war,(short version). You need to understand that being a small country we are ALL Kiwis, there is no them and us. The people that died are Kiwis. All religious faiths (and non-religious) here live and work shoulder to shoulder without hatred and as mates. This act is pure evil, pure hatred.

This has wounded us deeply. We are a pretty peaceful people. This piece of scum is not even of our nation. This is not something we wanted. This is a scar on our nation that will never heal.

The Deans Ave Mosque is just around the corner from where I went to school (Christchurch Boys High School). I grew up in Christchurch (don't live there now) so this is pretty emotional for me too.
