Bitcoin miners will drive up the prices while driving down the inventory

Only good news here is that the 2080ti might drop back down to earth in its pricing

Eagler

The reason the 2080 is so expensive is that they stopped producing them months ago so they could start producing 3080 cards. This is why almost every PC Hardware sites have been saying DON'T BY A 20X0 right now.

The same thing happened to the 1080ti. I purchased mine new in 2017 for $750 this was after coming down after the mining rush. However by 2018 right before the 2080 cards release it shot back up to over $1000 USD and stayed that way right pass the release of the 20x0 series it still currently sits higher than a 2070 on the Tom's Hardware GPU Hierarchy for 2020.

Cryptocurrency Mining for Joe user has pretty much gone away in favor of much larger Corporate level of Cryptocurrency mining operations since around 2018.

However, I would also like to point out the current pandemic problem is creating a hole new slew of problems causing the artificial inflation of price and price gouging on electronics as of late.

Looking forward, haven't decided yet between 3090, 3080 and 3070.  Will wait for performance reviews.  Also will probably wait for the next gen Ryzens (end of year supposedly), so that the early jacked up prices will have a chance to come down and I'll be able to select one with a better cooling solution.

For the price it looks like the 3070 is the one to beat.  It's going to be far less than the 3080 and 3090, not need the new 12pin connector and will outperform the 2070 Super/Ti and the 2080 Super/Ti.

As far as the 12-pin connector goes, on the MSI stream I watched they're using a 3 8-pin arrangement on their cards instead. Keeping it simple for the user. My last few cards have been MSI. I've had good luck with them. Good cooling on the gaming series cards too.

Same here in europe, large influx of Turing cards on the used market/Ebay. And those that bought the overprized cards anew during the last months are probably biting in their back for wasting a lot of money instead of waiting a bit.
But for the RTX3000 better wait for reputable tests showing their improvements over Turing (or not).
300W+ is nothing I would buy for my rig.

Not uncommon for folks to have a 1000 watt psu these days.

Economy mode:

Use it for a room heater and turn off the heat pump.

nice for Winter but really bad in Summer. With a real 1000W PSU one can feed 2x 3090 so why is someone buying such a beast?

I'm running two 750W PSUs, and it will be a step down to run two 3090s. I think the better choice is the 3070, or 3080, unless you need real-time rendering in a modeling program.

Wait my understanding was even if you have a 1000w PSU its not constantly drawing that much power. And in fact if you are only using 500w for example you may be operating in more efficient range for that specific PSU.

You have to know the entire architecture of the system. I use a dozen drives and fans also, which drives power requirements higher. There are power planning apps that take the guesswork out of it.

bortas, you're going to want to wait and see what the power requirements of the 3070 will be. The good news is that if you can just replace the GPU that your experience is going to be night and day, by all accounts so far.

I would consider using a PC Power Supply Calculator.

Like the one at new egg. https://www.newegg.com/tools/power-supply-calculator/

Seasonic has a really good one to .... https://seasonic.com/wattage-calculator

You can look up a few.

I'm running a Corsair AX850 850W Titanium Cert power supply with a single 12v rail. I shouldn't have a problem with a single 3080 or 3090.

Keep in mind your efficiency rating.

Also remember make sure you check how many 12v Rails your power supply has and how many amps per rail. I ran into this problem years ago with an Antec modular Power supply that had 4 12v rails and not enough amps left on most of the rails to run my graphics card. I had to rearrange a few items to make sure that my graphics card was the only device on it's 12v rail.

I would also like to point out according to most sources only the 3090 supports SLI and no one knows for sure if their is going to be a 3080ti which is unlikely due to the fract the 3090 is only going to give about 115-120% the performance of the 3080 for about 200% the price.

Let's wait for September 16th to see some benchmarks.
Remember that even the 3080 sucks way more power than the 2080Ti, let alone older 1k series cards.
One needs a good PSU in the 650W class (80+ Gold) and a case with good airflow, maybe some degree in thermodynamics.
