Tommy Lee and Lars are not topping my list of great drummers. They are basically just pounders and posers

Does Tony Williams count as a rock drummer?
Does Simon Philips count?

I think Gilmour made that song with his PF style rhythm. Always like Give Blood.

As for top drummers its a long list based on memory.

Nobody mentioned Keith Moon?

Moon was better than most in his era. There wasn’t a big pool of great drummers. Same with Ringo, but I doubt they match newer drummers. Back then Buddy Rich was top shelf, above them. Paul McCartney played quite a few Ringo parts on albums, or invented the beat. Yet named best in the world at the time, even tho Bidfy Rich could just blow him away. BR was top shelf ahole too, like seriously.

Not saying they are not good at all, I just have doubts they could keep up with others.
I don’t think Moon could keep up with Aldridge, he was mire the poser and got famous for it.

Heard a lot of non-famous name drummers shock me.

There was a band that played at our rock club in the 80s called Chameleon, where Yanni came from. During the show their drummer did a killer solo on a drum riser that spun 360 degrees in any direction, spinning upside down this guy held it together. That was amazing to me. It was a gimmick, but still took skill.

Lot of hidden talent out there. Lots of forgotten names too.

Just IMO

Do yourself a favor and listen to Lars on the "...and Justice for All" album. He's a monster on that album.

He's been pretty meh ever since, but his performance on that album is truly great.

I agree lars came up with some good stuff in timing, also agree he’s been meh since. His longevity is questionable, IMO

A lot of artist are greatest in albums #1-2. Usually because they dumped a lot of time into those tunes. Once iff and running living the dream and commitments that available time flys out the window and future albums take a hit on thought, they are now just filling a contract.

Usually a 3rd album is not up to par.

ZZ-Top
Queen
Ted Nugent
Kiss
Bad Company
Etc…
They are famous for  and their best stuff was their first - 2nd album. I can’t stand Queen after first 2 albums. They took on stardom using keel phrases and looking instead of just producing great stuff.

Point being greatness comes with longevity too.

Aldredge himself got famous for his drum solo in Black Oak Arkansas live album Raunch n Roll. Despite killing it in Ozzy and White Snake, his fame is based on that solo, which he has now played every show for 40 yrs. That said still killer drummer in his 70s.

The more memory kicks in I can still think of better.

Stepenwolf, did a cpl of their shows. Did anyone know John Kay, the singer, is legally blind? Why he usually wore sunglasses.

He does something similar on blue light.

The “Edge” David Evans, who imo is an over glamorized fraud stole that whole Gilmour thing. IMO most over rated gtr player out there. The Edge phfffff!! Lol
