Get rid of auto 6-call
« on: March 19, 2002, 09:16:10 AM »
ok, for you dweebsoiled brain dead after-farts I have removed the sensational reference of """cheat""" (OMG) so that some miniscule fiber of your oxygen starved brain stems might realize the genuine intent imparted from this thread.
====

With range channel 6-calls can now be made just like the real folks used to do "ON THE RADIO"...

Bag the auto 6 call

Still very useful for people who don't have a microphone.  Guess I don't see how it is a cheat.

i'm using it al the time. you can use it along with AHVoice or RW. no problem

6calls are for others, not for guy who sending them... how can you be sure that "this guy in trouble" uses ANY voice comm. soft? if you knows that he IS, Voive Comm. it the best choice :)

I might try using the range channel instead of the chk 6 button for awhile.  definitely won't be throwing wrong check 6's out to people anymore.  :)

but i think it should stay.  As people said, some don't have mics or have to play with no sounds due to whatever reason.

and a cheat?  just sounds like you just wanna be able to bounce people easier in your P-51.  ;)

Oh my.....

How does looking at someone and pressing a button manifest itself into a cheat?  Well, it doesnt.  To call it a cheat is too harsh but it gets the point across.

Like this: lets click our heels together twice and go to kansas.  Get the picture, catch my drift?

The auto 6call killed honest hard working SA and no one can argue against this.  It is true.

Dont have a mic?  LMAO,  got a tv?  got a refrigerator?  microwave oven?  how about a CD player?  a DVD player?

Go get a mic fer chrysakes and use the radio like the radio was used in combat.  No telepathy in war boys.  Auto 6 call is for ladies and cow pies.  Bag it.

Still cant manage to hook a microphone up to a soundcard?  Type it.

yes, yeager, how does it manifest itself into a cheat since the check 6 function is built into the game, is in the mapping settings, isn't a hidden code and isn't frowned upon by the developers of the game?

I think the word you're looking for is crutch not cheat.

Huh? What's wrong with the check 6 function? Hardly a cheat. What's the difference between pressing "T" to give a check 6 and pressing some other key to give a check 6?

Having a bad day Yeager?
Calling the 6 call thing a cheat is the stupidest thing I have heared in a while.
With it I can give Japanese, Russian, Brazialian even Texan players a timely 6 call, all without even knowing what language to send it in.
How the hell is that a cheat.
Tired of having your bounces foiled by people supporting each other as if they were on the same radio channel and speaking the same language as is normaly the case with the members of a squadron in war?

You may not be aware that many people are still having difficulty with AHVoice. It's not as simple as plugging a mic in the soundcard. Many of these people (including myself) have had no difficulty using Roger Wilco but find AHV problematic.

Roger Wilco wasn't used as justification for killing "check six." Why should AHV?

In any case, until the AHV bugs have been sorted out and it becomes usable by everyone, it's premature to call for a change to check six feature. Even at the point, it makes perfect sense to keep it because it crosses all language barriers and it gives no more information than what could be gathered via the Range channel. It gives less.

Like other "features," I think it would be a good idea to make check six optional for the receiver (if it isn't already).

i do not understand how it is a cheat? Now if there was a computer that gave you a 6 call (which is essentially what continuously updating dar does) then i see a problme. but as long as it is another player giving you teh call whats the problem????

my vote is for the option of turning up/down/off /on.

I get 6 calls from my squaddies.

I get either way too many or none at all from countrymen.

I tend to be setting some guy up for a rope-a-dope or something .. just about got him roped.. then CHECK 6 comes in..
distracting at best.
at worst, I look around to see if I missed someone but nope.. I didn't, but I just lost saddle on the con I was bagging.

please give me the option to turn it off

Damn Yeager.. this looks like a prime example of a P-51 driver whining because his BnZ tactics aren't as good as they used to be due to that damn check 6 call.

Rude... can you put a "Top 10 whines of the week" list up?  I think this week merrits more than one recipient.

Deleting the .wav for the 6-call helps a lot to make it less annoying.

But Yeager does have a point; the existance of the auto 6-call just gives people another excuse for their getting shot down.  "Why no 6 calls" is among the most common statements I see on CH2 these days.

I don't want to see them removed completely (although I feel they're worse than useless); I just feel that they should come with a disclaimer--"Nobody owes you a 6 call; it's always best to watch your own tail"
