I am quite looking forward to the map.  The MA is a fantasy realm where balance is far more important than is a real map.

I think the gameplay on this map will be great, but I do have concerns about the big fields being completely uncapturable.

No worries mate, the large fields are captureable. It's only the outer zone that is uncapturable. That doesn't mean that it's large field is uncaptureable, only that the original owning country will always benefit from the enhanced rebuild times of the factories in the zone.

I agree with that and I am looking forward to new maps.
I wonder how many people they will be able to put in there...

With all due respect to the AKs for their effort, and pizza or cookies aside, this map screams "Arcade!" to me.

This map is a real departure from most previous maps, which made at least a minimal effort towards representing a believeable terrain.    The AKPizza terrain makes no compromises towards realism at all - its entirely focused on gameplay.

I recognize I'm in the minority here, so if this is the direction HTC wants to go, and most players approve, I guess that's it.   Gives me something to think about other than what the next plane might be.     I don't know why though HTC would spend time and effort making sure the flight model is realistic, the aircraft skin is realistic, etc., and then use an utterly unrealistic terrain like this one.   I think pink and black P-51s or the aircraft from Crimson Skies would fit just fine here.  And the Crimson Skies a/c are probably balanced for gameplay, too.

I'm sure Hitech put the map up to get some reactions and feedback (or at least knew he was going to get them anyway). Mine is "Please, no."

First off, Thanks to the AK's for their effort
I agree with some of the comments made by NUTTZ wherein some historical terrain are not good for the MA and gameplay, but I also agree with some of the other folks comments where a "fantays shaped" map does detract from realism. I believe a terrain that will make a good percantage of folks happy would be one that is a hybrid of realism for gameplay.

There are some things to remember before we start spouting off about this or that. This game is always evolving, remember? Is this the last map we'll ever get? No. Is there any map that everyone likes? No. So what if the terrain is shaped like a cookiepizza, I would think that type of shape would be a decent choice for a 1st map design that integrates a new zone-based strat system. Fear change? This game isn't fer you :D

Not sure what you're getting at here Ripley. I think HTC uses good judgement in deciding when a thread has gotten abusive and counterproductive. Are you mocking HTC or AK's?

Funny- that's what the Main Arena concept does to me too.

You want history, realism, suspension of reality- the Combat Theater is where it's at.

Mugz- if there was a larger player base in the CT, you'd play there? I'm willing to bet that there's good number of people like you out there, unfortunately they are exactly like you. They won't go into the arena to make it increase in size (the more there are there, the more people will go there), instead they sit on the sidelines waiting for other people to go there... when the majority is just like you.

And last but not least- you want to suspension of disbelief or more immersion... but you all fly in an arena where B17s dogfight B17s, Zeros are being zoomed by 109s, perk point system you use to earn better rides, fields that instantly repair when they are resupplied by a single C47....

but a terrain where you'll have to fly zoomed in on the map all of the time, and is divided into several sectors that are as big as the current MA maps... you can't suspend your disbelief?

Oh well, you guys make a better map and we'll see.

what is the policy on submitting maps? do they review anyone's map or is it an elitist thing with only special squads getting consideration?

if everyone's efforts are at least reviewed then we should put up or shut up.. I don't really dig it that much and don't think I have the talent or patience to cook one up, but I'm sure there is great talent out here in many of Aces' players.

maybe have a message board section where people can submit maps and the rest can rate them and maybe the really popular ones would get consideration from the big cheeses.

Well actually I offered up that suggestion because it's an elitest thing and only special squads will be considered...

The point isn't how well it looks and how many people like it- but how well the map is tested for problems (so HTC doesn't have to fix it) and how well it works for game play.
