At what point do we say "enough is enough" and start setting up land mines?

Quote

A van going the wrong
way on a highway with its headlights off crashed into a
sport utility vehicle, killing six people and injuring more
                                     than 20, authorities said.

The van, which was carrying illegal immigrants, struck
two cars Monday night before it slammed head-on into
the sport utility vehicle. The crash on Interstate 8 killed the
drivers of the SUV and the van and four passengers in
                                     the van.

The van's headlights were off, probably to evade a Border
Patrol checkpoint, said California Highway Patrol
spokesman Steve Lopez. The immigrants were from
                                     Mexico and Brazil, Lopez said.

The crash happened about 50 miles east of San Diego,

Do they have land mines that can catch up to the ones that made it across?

ROTFLOL! Now come on, in defense, the Mexicans in this area are some of the hardest workers I've seen.  On that note, if someone cuts in line in front of you, do you get mad?  Well, these border jumpers are jumping in line in front of those who are going thru the proper channels to gain entry into the US.

But Rip, the ones who come here legally want the good jobs.

The ones who come here "illegally" get the crap jobs no one wants.

So better question would be, do you get mad when someone pushes you out of the McDonald's employment line?

No one wants those jobs because of low pay...if they have a hard time filling positions, the pay goes up, then the jobs are wanted.  You see where this is going? ;)

McDonalds is for 16 years old employee and 25 year old managers

If you are employed in a McDee's after 25, you have bigger issues than worrying about an illegal taking your "career" away from you :)

I'm actually kind of torn on this issue. On the one hand, I think that if we need to close our borders to protect our jobs, the issue is in the jobs not in the immigration policy.

On the other hand, I feel that those immigrants entering our country should be expected to learn English ASAP. We have some privately owned companies here in So. Cal. that actually have an "English only" policy and do very well. While some other firms (especially in the manufacturing sector) have 50% or more of their workforce that doesn't understand a word of English. I think this is a much more dangerous situation than the numbers of immigrants allowed.

We will tend to lose our sense of community and our common heritage as Americans if we don't at least standardize our common language. (This constitutes my conservative rant for the year:) )

Reinstitute the draft. For the National Guard this time.
 Put them on the border.
100 yard no mans zone. Mined
Concertina wire ten feet high, before and after.
Machine gun nests with crossing fields of fire.
Full time gunship patrol. Live ammo.
Signs that say no trespassing, in Spanish.

Land mines?  That's not even slightly amusing.  OK, maybe just a little, but...  there are proper channels for a dirt poor Mexican to gain citizenship to the US?  I do get pissed about those filthy, non-English speaking toejamheads taking all the jobs away from me tho'.  It really pissed me off the most as I drove by them on summer mornings from Cornelius, past the fields they were working in, and on my way to work at ThrustMaster (where we made joysticks, some of which cost as much as 2 months food for these scumbags' families) and I easily got paid 5 times more than any one of them for working (hehe) in my air conditioned office that I worked (hehe) / played games in.  I'da switched with them in a minute if only I'd been given the opportunity...alas, they choose to come up here and steal that opportunity away from me.  :(

If you ask me, Mexicans are all right...it's them damned stinky, baby eating French-types we need to keep out!  Send 'em to Quebec!  :p

Frenchy, what if you married an American? Do you get residency then? You could do an on-paper marriage with some woman for 500 dollars I'll bet, and if you can't trust some chick not to screw youup then go to San Francisco because they have a domestic partners law and you could marry a guy. I'd marry you but I'm already married,  but I'll bet there's a dozen single posters on this BBS who'd be honored to take your hand in matronimy. How bout it, who's between wives who's willing to marry Frenchy?
