I read an article one time written by an American pilot in the "I geuss you'd call it trade program" American serviceman in the RAF while Brit aerviceman in the USAAF in his place. He stated that Brits would do low level attack runs at 50 ft in training while USA forces wouldn't go below 200 FT my hats off to those nuts

There's a story about a B17 briefing during WWII that goes like this:
Bomb Group C.O: 'Bomb runs are scheduled for 30,000ft but as this is a priority target I will see that every man of every crew that bombs from 25,000ft gets a career citation. Any one who bombs from 20,000ft will get the DSC. Anyone crazy enough to bomb from 15,000ft will get a guaranteed Purple Heart. But now lower than that men - or you'll get all tangled up with the RAF.

Yeah exactly. The Tornado was designed as a low-level attack and double-ups as a very weak fighter. If it didn't double up as a very weak fighter, it would have meant we didn;t have any fighters for many years...fancy that. About Iraq...anyone remember when the Panavia Tornado had a prob because the Durandel's wouldn't fit on the underside and that was the main mission of the Tornado? How ridiculous. I hate that plane. By the way, the F-111 became the F-14...not many people know that. They tried getting the F-111 onto the carriers and saw they didn;t have enough power so they made the F-14. It cost an Admiral's job and his callsign was "tomcat" hence the planes name.

Swoop...I think that the difference between the Brits and the French is that the Brits are proud but realise they're not a superpower (anymore). The French are proud and think they are a superpower (even thought they never were). Which is sillier...cos they eat frogs and snails.
I haven't read Andy McNabb's book yet but I have read bits of it. Isn;t it about the missions to get Sadam's scuds and they were captured? I also read that in fact the SAS missions to get the scuds was a total failure as only 2 per cent were shot down thanks to the SAS insertion missions.
The trouble with the SAS is that they try to be everything. They do hostage rescue. They try to do incursions...etc. The yanks are lucky, cos they have their SEALS and Delta force for hostage rescue. They have their Rangers for incursions (light infantry). WE have the Royal Marines which aren't exactly light infantry cos they carry a house when they go in missions.

Sorry, I'm just a fan of the US military.

WTF!!!

It's called "nap of the earth" or something like that. There is special equipment fitted on low level bombers to do this. Maybe you were comparing a Tornado where it is fitted and maybe something like an F-16 which it isn't. Not really fair...

bet we have worst riots than you, one instance happened in my home town of Bradford, where the NF (national front) did a peaceful rally (btw they are nazis), but it was Asians who started rioting, they parked cars up at the exits of buildings, burned 'em out, then set the buildings on fire.

as for navy seaals/rangers/delta force why dont you check their record of mission failures?
The british train armies all around the world becaue they are the best.The SAS have a fantastic record for successfull missions and even the failures are stories to tell the grandchildren!
Thats the point, With the Iraq scud hunts even in a balls up they put up a fantastic fight.They killed a rediculous number of iraqis (from memory 127 killed? ) and were captured and tortured for days without breaking.Thats the sort of thing that makes the brits proud.Never give in , never surrender.

(sound of pipes playing)I suggest you get that union jack get a cold beer sit and watch the bravo 2 zero video (shaun bean)and that discovery programme on the US screw ups in panama and rethink your 'best special forces' opinion

PS while your at it check out the S.B.S (special boat service) generally regarded as harder to get into than the SAS!!
then take a look at the Australian SAS's operations.

pps Israel has a pretty good anti terrorist squad too (though they tend to be pretty violent and have lost hostages) but they are truelly bad news if you happen to be the terrorist

where are the 'great' US missions?
