Battleground
The Story of GI Joe
Wings
All three of these were directed by real life ww1 veteran Wild Bill Wildman..
Great director.. he really brings the feeling of being there.
Platoon.. I know some of you don’t like Oliver Stone’s political views, but he’s a Viet Nam Veteran for real and I think vets who become directors make better war movies. As a side note, Platoon was on a few weeks ago on USA channel.. it was the edited version for television. Now normally I don’t care if they edit strong language but for this film I don’t believe the profanity is gratuitous.. Stone meant for this language to be there as a way to bring the viewer into this crazy upside down world. It was like someone painting clothes onto a classic nude.. The censors missed the point of the art.
The Generals.. cool movie.. about a German Military police investigator trying to solve a rape/murder in Poland in ’41.. a witness says they saw a German officer leave the girls room and he had a red stripe on his trousers. A German general (Peter O’Tool). This investigator follows up on the case all the way into late ’44... When we see O’Tool again, he looks really beaten down from the battles in Russia..
Das Boot... I saw an interview with Wolfgang Peters who said the U-boat they were using for exterior shots.. sunk.. about half way through filming.. so the one you see in the beginning of the film is real.. the shots toward the end of the film is a miniature which had to be constructed on the spot. Lets see what else.. oh.. the Captain you see from the other U-boat is dead drunk for real.. he was not acting

... when he goes into the bathroom and barfs... that’s real. The crew of Das Boot were a bunch of party animals.. often showing up late for filming costing the film crew thousands of dollars in delays.. Peters had to personally bail out the kid with the red hair who got busted for drugs.. what a scene. If you ever rent the DVD of Das Boot watch the directors cut... he talks about all this.
Oh.. hehe.. let me be the first to mention "Band of Brothers"
Lets see ya top that!
