Why can't we support Israel? If supporting Israel causes Arabs to hate us, then that's there problem.

So you are saying that we should not support Israel out of fear of causing Arabs tp hat us?

If the Arabs or anyone else hates us and then tries to attack us or support terror against us, we will destroy them and solve any problem they start with us.

Too bad the world works that way, but it does.

We have every right to support Israel.

Maybe its the Arabs that should reconsider who they hate.

I happen to subscribe to the theory of total destruction of all arab nations if another 9/11 happens.  And I dont even hate arabs.

We give them way to much support now and probably have for the last 20 years.

However, without US support for at least Israel's first 30 years they would have ceased to exist as a nation.

So, are you suggesting we should have never supported them? For fear of angering Arabs/Muslims?

Because that, to me, suggests that you feel Israel should have been left to the tender mercies of her neighbors.

Sounds like a second Holocaust to me.

Basic problem: Ignorance.

Supporting problem: People that prefer to stay ignorant.

The best we can do

Quote
In the past month, six rural boys' schools outside Kandahar have been vandalized by suspected Taliban and al Qaida sympathizers, a departure from the common attacks on girls' schools. Storage rooms at some of schools like Haji Glon Baba were torched. No one knows why the schools were targeted or what the attacks mean.

"We're going out to support the schools we've heard have been vandalized," the sergeant had said this morning.

Now with Yousuf sitting beside her on a faded rug, she takes out a scrap of paper from her flack vest and asks him what happened.

"They came at night, March 9th or 10th." says Yousuf, 45. He speaks softly. He's bald with a gray beard cascading down his chest. "They stole biscuits donated to us by the WFP. They stole copies of the Holy Koran and our registry books with the addresses of all of our teachers."

The sergeant nods taking notes. An Afghan guard adjusts his Calvin Klein cap, looks off at a dust storm racing across the desert valley below.

"There have been threats to teachers," Yousuf says. "Night letters that say our noses and ears will be cut off if we continue teaching."

"Have any students dropped out?" the sergeant asks.

"No. When they are not here, they spend the rest of their time harvesting poppies."

She makes a face, shakes her head, writes.

"Where do they put the night letters?"

"In front of the school on the wall," Yousef says. "They are the result of ignorant thinking. If the children don't get the opportunity for education, the ignorant thinking will continue."

Bingo.

There's the problem.
