were those comments directed at me?

If so...

Medical/dental insurance through one of my jobs at a fortune 500 insurance company

Tuition reimbursement program through the same company, which is a really nice perk but i still paid for the classes out of pocket so i had the money in the first place through working.

And whats this "i dont need it so nobody gets it crap" comment?  If you are "advising" me to exercise caution and be happy that we have government programs that promote laziness so one day when i need them they'll be there?  Is that what you're getting at?

Just FYI i work two jobs, one at the insurance company and also the flight line at an airport along with being a freelance local teaching pro.

The formula to be successful really isnt that complicated.  Making good decisions and working hard really are big keys to living a good life.  Not just hard physically either, putting everything youve got into what your doing really shows and you can spot easily someone who isnt giving 100% at what they are doing and they are generally unhappy with "the system".  For some reason the system screwed them over and they think the world owes them something.  I was blessed i feel at a young age with a good work ethic and a joy for the simpler things in life.  I was taken back when i was sitting in the woods just a few weeks ago turkey hunting with the 13 year old kid from next door to my parents, who own roughly a $750,000 home, $500,000 condo at Snowshoe Mountain resort, as well as a $400,000+ pleasure yacht and of all the things this kid could say to me he said..."This is living" while he was leaning against the trunk of a tree in the dirt sitting out in the middle of the woods.  Here's a kid who hasnt known any other life than a "good life" his father has worked hard for (strangely enough mine and his fathers worked their first jobs in the same place at Weirton Steel mill as welders) and now one is an Associate vice president of a major fortune 500 company and the neighbor owns his own construction business and lumber yards.  But this kid who as i was saying has known nothing but a "good life" was sitting in the woods and with all these fancy expensive toys around him the one thing he likes the most is to sit in the woods in the dirt hunting.

If you asked me to describe myself i'd say i'm pretty average.  6'0 220 so average build.  2.5 gpa...nothing stellar but gets by.  Golf professional, National ski patrol member, private pilot with a hopeful future in aviation all at 19 and i have been able to do all these things simply because i had a job, and kept busy trying to learn new things.  In my eyes there is nothing more sad than to see someone able to work not doing because they'd rather sit back in their lazyboy and pout that the world owes them a living when they're collecting an unemployment check.

I have no problem with programs for those who NEED them, the folks that have been laid off and need time to transition and find a job.  i have a problem with the folks who ABUSE the programs collecting unemployment and disability when they are perfectly able to get off their lazy bellybutton and get a job.  Ive got no beef with someone who was injured on the job and wish i could make it better for them, but the guy or gal whos going to skim off programs for someone else's misfortune i have no respect for whatsoever.

-Edit for spelling...i spelled "no" wrong...ugh!

I fail to see where i am required to explain my life to you as how i have accomplished what i have accomplished and why i did it.  Just to humor you i will...

I confess...my father bought me as a birthday present my first set of golf clubs when i was 7 years old...that planted the seed.  He took me golfing with him a couple times a year...what father doesn't?  From age 12 to 17 i played competitive golf in high school, and from 15-18 worked at golf courses full time in summers as well as putting in weekends/evenings (leagues, UGH!) during school.  Working full time gave me plenty of money and all the free golf i could play as well as range balls...so i had plenty of money and nothing to spend it on.  So i bought my first car which is what i still drive today, and paid cash for it.  Thats a lot of golf a lot of the time, and i got good at the game and know a lot about the game.  Passed my PAT the spring of '01 before i graduated high school and taught over the summer.  (2 rounds of 75 or better...not a difficult thing to do.

Working now...
Insurance company full time, med/dental/tuition benefits...good pay with very very flexible hours...a good gig indeed.  Also part time (1-2 days a week at no more than 10 hrs per week) working the flight line at an airport and what goes along with this is a discounted rate on airplanes...specifically $51/hr for a 172.  Its a good gig because i'd probably be at the airport anyways, so now i get paid for it and get cheap rental fees on top of it.

Joined the ski patrol the winter my senior year of high school...volunteer job but guess what...free skiing.  I was already a proficent skier after being in the ski club in middle and high school (8th grade was a surprise christmas present and what a great one it was!)

Aviation career hopeful...you bet your scrawny little nosey ass.  Moving to florida in the fall to study aviation and apprentice for my A&P, will also stay with the company at a florida office doing nearly the same job...benefits still the same for med/dental/tuition.  But thats more than you really should be caring about isnt it?

Anything else you'd like to tell me that can't be done?  keep it to yourself.

Also...congrats muck on the check, mine wasnt quite that big but it sure was nice!

Yes they are.

FBI.
NSA.
National Park Service Rangers.
INS.
Federal Marshalls.
Coast Guard.
TSA.
DEA.

just to name a few.  Then you got your regulatory commissions, like the SEC, FAA, FCC, EPA, FTC, and so forth.

I wonder who pays the firejumpers during wildfire season...

Incidentally, my local international airport announced 175 federal baggage screening agents were going to be let go due to budget cuts.  The announcement was made just before the terrorist threat level was raised to "Orange".  Not even 2 years after 9/11/2001 and we're already slipping back to our old ways.

You certainly are a busy guy, Golfer.

If all the above you say is true, and I have no reason to doubt you, you really have a great deal of drive and ambition.

It's rare to find that in a 19 year old man.

UGMAW has an A&P certification from his time in the Navy. You may want to pick his brain, next squad night.

Someday I'm going to figure a way out of this career I have and follow my passion into aviation. It seem's you've managed to do more by 19 than I have by 32. WTG.

Go back and read what he posted a bit slower TOWD.

I know its hard since he didnt spell anything wrong and he used punctuation and all, but he clearly said that he worked full time for an insurance company and part time (1-2 days a week) at the airport.

Dolf...ive come to the conclusion that you are an idiot.  I work 40 hours a week at the insurance company, and 2 days no more than 10 hrs total per week at the airport.  that gets me minimums for flying discounts.  I live in an apartment with 4 other roommates and if youve got any other questions, you can keep them to yourself.  and Yes...i do in fact do well for being a 19 year old kid in college...as i mentioned before im looking into the purchase of my first airplane, ideally i'd have the only model 150 with a straight tail, omnivision, and manual flaps...havent found one that was in good shape yet...so rather than question what i am and am not capable of...get a hobby.  and i am also a golf professional which is the PAT i passed, PAT stands for Professional Aptitude Test, which is 2 rounds of 75 or better.

Also...sling lol thanks for that comment...i just now saw it on the topic review list...thanks.

Muck...Freelance golf pro but i'll hook up with ya at the con for a basket of range balls or 18 holes...whichever comes first :-D

I've got a box of balls here you can have, if you need them.

The Mutual Fund wholesalers send them over here. Usually Titleists with their silly logo on it. They still don't seem to understand, I only recommend funds to my clients based on fundamentals, not based on which fund company is sending me a $4.00 tee shirt.

But they're free. How can you beat that?

Actually, now that I'm looking...

I've got a box of Top Flite XL 2000 from Franklin Templeton

or

A box of Maxfli MaxDistance 90 Tungstens from Mitchell Hutchins.

Take your pick, and send me your addy. I'll get 'em out to you.
