Moose: I saw that exchange... but you think thats bad?

How about this, some other new dweeb called NUKE is on my case because he thinks I drove some newbie CHICK called ANIMAL out of the arena  :D  he claims I sexually harassed "her"!

Everytime I open up on Ch#1 this little tards jumps in to attack me, I think he believes he is defending 'Miss' Animals honour.

The low load splattered, the high load took so long to get down that the town came back up and all the troops had grown long beards.

It would be nice for these guys to hit a key and bring up some help in-game instead of being taken to a webpage.

LOL!!  You think they maybe rode that little "short" school bus to school?  :)

Newbies are fun.  :)

I guess I'm kinda demented to get my yucks like this... but; hell, why kill the joy of discovery for 'em? Right?

A lil example... I was tooling along on my way to another personal aswuppin at the local 'special olympics/field capture exercises' whwn I was accosted in the text buffer by a group of new guys formed up in b17's on the way to the aforementioned olympics. Having seen these guys (5 of 'em) carpet bombing our own field a few sorties pervious I figured maybe IU'd give 'em a hand on upgrading their view settings.

DOGPORKER: hey, hangtime how bout u givin us escort?
MAMASBOY: yeah doode, we gonna paste the knights
IDIOTSON: we sure need some help, gunners would be kewl too
etc, etc.

Now, I'm not a mean guy (depends who yah ask I guess) so I said..

HANGTIME: you guys get your cockpit views adjusted yet?

DOGPORKER: ??

HANGTIME: to get a full external view, no canopy frame, hit enter 3x fast.

4 beeeeyoutiful chutes... only sad part; the 5th guy was wize.. he was in a gunners position. I had to tell him to go to the cockpit first.

Then there ws 5.  :D

BTW, there is a key commands reference in the help section that could be easily printed.  The problem is that nobody likes to read the instructions when they play a game.  Just accept the fact that there will always be new people coming to AH, and you help build a stronger community by helping others.  Be a good samaritan.     :p

Ah yes!

OK, now can we force a newbie to find it?
 :D

Perhaps the install program could offer to open (optional of course) a .txt file containing the commands and recommend printing them.

I don't mind helping, enjoy it actually, but as the start of this thread notes, it is rather overwhelming at the moment.
I found myself having to squelch 1 and 6 last night just to keep up with Squad Text.

In fact, I wouldn't mind sitting in the training arena for a few hours a week if it meant I could get a free sub.  ;)
Would it be worth it for HTC to find 7 guys who would be willing to spend 3 hours in the TA during "Prime Time" and give us free subscriptions?

7 People
Each responsible for 1 night each week.
Hours, 9:00 PM - Midnight Eastern time.
Limit help to general flight info: dot commands, key commands, how to take off/land, what troops do.
NOT Technical help though: No Modem, PC, Dial up, or other Tweak advice would be allowed as it could damage or hinder performance.

What do ya think?

Is quite curious, rude, that I've never seen you offering help in #1 to someone asking to go to TA. I've gone there quite many times to help newbies to get a grip on AH. And I ain't a trainer. And is more curious that, you not doing that, you come here and drop that kind answer on me

I really don't know what to say...I had no idea you flew the same time as I do and that you kept such close track of me.Wow!

"The facts are as follows:

A small minority posts on this board in comparison to the entire AH community.

Of that small minority, an even smaller minority acts like a pompous turd and criticizes new players for behavior thats normal when thrown into an enviroment like AH.

Anyone ever teach you about first impressions?

If bein a Big Boy means you take a condescending attitude towards those who might need some help, then post about it on an open forum where new guys can read about it, then I think I would prefer to fly with the newbies and shoot down all of the Big Boys "

Hmm... That rude guy wasn't assleep his entire flight sim career...  Now you know why I am proud to say that lepaul and I disagree on allmost everythying eh?

I look at it as part of the 'experience of exposure'.

Some folks that fly this sim for the first time make themselves a royal pain in the butt by their approach to others online.. just like lil kids squealing for attention. Good attention, bad attention.. they don't care as long as somebody pays attention to their tardedness.

Those I ignore.

Then there are those that are just socializing in a big chatroom while flying a sim they have no serious intent to gain skillz in.. like the buff group I remarked about. Those guys had as big a laff about their nylon letdown as I did, and who knows, maybe they will stick around and sign up after the two week free ride.. they've been 'initiated' good naturedly and during the free time and chatting they even learned some things.

When i see intelligent questions relating to the immediate circumstances of flying a complicated airplane in a combat situation I try and help. Questions like "how do i drop troops" or "where" or "how do i open bomb bay" I answer freely.. if i'm not buzy gettin killed myself.

Nobody here got in the plane BEFORE reading the manual in detail. All ACM is learned as part of "On The Job Training"... with the exception of Animal, who had to go through Affirmative Action first.

Newbies can be counted on for exceptional courage, daring ideas, tenacity and of course, a damn good belly laugh at least once an evening.

Case in point... back a few years ago we had a guy show up at a hevily contested field with a goon. Every defender in the area made for that guy like he was lit up in neon. The field in question had been prepped, and about 10 of us were keeping it capped, waiting on that goon. For 15 minutes the text buffer had been filled with our plaintive cries of "SEND GOON TO a15!!"

What ensued was one of the most incredible low alt air battles I'd ever been in.. I think I wound up with a 15 kill sortie and never vultched a soul.. I was in the 357th at the time, and ALL of us were hammering knits outta the sky around that field.. the kill buffer was solid yellow text just from the action around this field.

Thru this fight, oblivious to the carnage and mayhem flew that goon, where he lined up with the runway, lowered flaps, gear, made a beautiful touchdown and used all the runway for the rollout..

Still, the battle raged around this guy, and miraculously, not one single knit laid a round on him.. and then he exited. No capture.

I aked him "did you drop the troops?" His reply?

"what troops?"

Yah gotta love the newbies. They are truly spectacular at times.. and they are one of the best reasons to continue flying this sim.. you'd never see anything remotely as funny as what they can do if all we had to mess with was hungry alt monkies lookin for the DFC on the scorecard.

One night there was a newbie shouting: "HOW DO I TAKE OFF? HOW DO I TAKE OFF?"

After some answers which did not seem to help him someone asked: "How old are you "newbie"?"

... "12" was the answer.

People were already fed up with him and squelched him. I then got a huch and asked him: "Do you have a joystick?"

..... "NAH, I DONT NEED ONE"

  :D   :D   :D

This is idle discussion.  Most of you guys are n00bs for 1999 old farts like me. :p

Anyhow, you shouldn't be complaining.  More n00bs = better K/D ratio. ;)
