Man, I wish I could get on when they are about....all I find are the Knit and Rook ones.
-
On the bright side, at least they were not all flying Spitfires...
:lol
-
Looks like its just another one of Thunders Jug missions. :rock
He usually gets a pretty good turn out for his missions, they're run well and alot of fun. :D
Nothing different here than many of the Rook and Nit missions I've encountered on any given night of the week.

The difference is that the Rook missions are usually not as well planned or executed.

I've had as much Rook horde stop the Bish horde, so don't even give me that. ;)

I'll give a :salute to you guys going in showing dar over the late night knit noe's that my countrymen love so much. :aok

The thing that bothers me is all with in 1 sector there was a VB, the port they went after, and the associated CV. This is where the dweebishness and stupidity comes in. With the amount of people they had....and not all 40 of them are in the picture... they could have easily split the mission and tried for all three at once.
Where's the challenge to having 40 planes bomb the crap out of one field and circle for 5 minutes waiting for any uppers? And heaven forbid anyone suicidal enough to try and up to defend. We all know how terrifying it can be if you let someone get wheels up and a 120 mph of wind under a wing !!
Its sad that 40 guys get together and can't come up with a plan that might challenge them. Something they may have to work together to accomplish. I thought the Bish prided themselves on teamwork? A horde isn't teamwork, its an overwhelming force.
Sure I'd guess the Rooks and Knits are just as guilty of putting together hordes. I, on the other hand will take a stand, I will NOT join the horde !!
Any one else have balls enough to stand with me? :pray

The fact remains that the dar-bar was present from sector to sector as the mission climbed out. P47's packing bombs are incredibly slow in a climb, therefore dar-bar basically serves as a billboard advertisement saying "HEY, SHOOT US DOWN, WE'RE HEADING YOUR WAY!!" I distinctly remember apologizing for launching the mission from further back, but we needed distance for altitude.
The fact remains that well organized defense has time to respond to the dar-bar threat as it SLOWLY CLIMBS OUT.
The fact remains that it has been proven to work before many times. Missions (hordes) have indeed been broken before. Rooks have demonstrated their patience and adeptness in doing this many times. We've been busted by the best.
Apparently, Rooks in general did not notice something amiss coming at them across the map. Therefore, not much of a defense ensued.
It's not like Scotty beamed us on location over target and we dropped in without advanced notice.

so......it was all them vs you?
if you fly anything like cobia, snaphook, akak, murdr....then it was still unfair odds........iin your favor!!
:D

I'm mad, I didnt make it in the picture. :furious

I can never afford a 262 when I need one... :cry

Your assuming the whole Rook nation is a cohesive unit working as a team, like the other teams its just a bunch of people on the same server playing a game. Some are having a blast milking the factories, others are peeing themselves at a spawn point killing the same 3 guys over and over again. Then there are those that enjoy their NOE's, and those fighter jocks that only like a good fight.
Yes we saw your dar bar, yes we launched our planes, and yes, we were still out numbered 6 to 1 by a horde ! By you spliting your mission into 3 prongs you could have challenged your team to be a bit better, to use a smaller force to take 3 bases at once. Also by doing that the few defenders that were there could have maybe defended one of the bases a bit, making it fun for them as well. Seeing as it was about the only "fight" going on on the map at the time you came in and in a few minutes bombed the cap out of the airfield, and cleared the air of defenders.
I'll bet half of your force didn't hit anything with their bombs..... because there wasn't anything left to hit.
I'll bet 1/6th of your force didn't get any kills........................ ....because there wasn't anything left to kill.
So, more than half your force flew "that extra distance for altitude" to do nothing  WOW !!! what fun !
Its too bad that those of you flying in the horde limit your game experience to only steam rolling bases. Your missing out on many other challenges, dogfighting, defending bomber formations, co-ordinated attacks, strategic missions.
I understand "being part of something" has its thrill/reward, but look at it this way, ANY group of 40 guys can take a base. How much better/rewarding would it be to capture 3 bases at once? Its not something that's done all the time....tho it could be if we really had any planners <--- challenge , the gauntlet has been thrown!
I'm mad, I didnt make it in the picture. :furious
If you look to the lower left P47 there are a few dots there too. You were one of those dots and chewed up my 38 less than a minute after this picture. You didn't get the kill as avoiding one guy isn't to hard, It was one of the 6 P47s that caught me a minute or so later that did :D
-
I did get the other 38, I remember now! :D

There was no defense because you guys did this for hours on end. Just up 45-50 guys and freight train a field. After the first three times, people decide to just let you have the field.....it's just not worth the time, and it certainly isn't fun.
Most of the rooks that defended against your first 10 hordes said "screw it" and went to the real fun (and even) fight between knit and rook around A33 (i think) on Baltic. This left you hordemasters the reset. It's a shame, because I love Baltic as a map. There were 2 guys up just giving a running count on your field tallies so Rooks could land their kills.
If that doesn't prove how dweebish you are, nothing will.

Some folks are going to get ulcers worrying about the big bad horde. If you don't like the fight, move somewhere else, not a difficult thing to do.

It is if it's the only real fight going on on the map at the time.
Honestly, explain to me where the fun is in upping with 39 other guys, grabbing alt for 15 minutes, then flying half a sector to watch as the guys out front wipe everything out. Your left circling a destroyed field with no uppers. Please, with an honest answer, where is the fun in that?

I never said it was, I just don't complain about it. If I'm not having fun I go somewhere else, or I simply log and come back another day. I tend not to let cartoon games stress me. I know some others have difficulty separating real life from this game, but this is simply a game, nothing more or nothing less.
One thing I know is, all three countries do it, and like taxes it's not going away.

some guys NEED to be in the horde to survive.....and although you, and i can't understand it, i guess they have their fun just as we have ours trying to maneuver for a good clean kill

I agree completely!!
Some guys NEED to pick and run to survive, they can't actually engage someone in a "fight". (although these guys "think" they're fighting)
Thats just one of the many examples of the way some people choose to survive in the game.
I guess alot of people have a different definition of what fighting means.
I mean really, how many times have you encountered someone co-alt only to have them turn and run and climb run and climb.
They apparently NEED to have an altitude advantage, otherwise they WILL NOT fight.
I guess everyone has different needs.
I can't help but admire you guys who "manuver" for a good "clean" kill.
You guys are truley superior players! :rock

oooooo i am by no means superior. i actually ho'd a 190 sat night in my 38j. must've been embarrasing for him to lose a ho to a 38.....but that's all he'd do,,and i kinda got tired of it really fast.
i wasn't meaning to put anyone's style down//////i was simply making a statement.

Who knows what is the fun in that.
But if they are having fun doing it, then it is their right.
If you don't like it, then don't do it. Pretty simple. But why not go find your own fun, and quit trying to dictate to them how to have theirs.

Not to worry. We did it this time. The other sides will later. I must tend to real life now. <S>

Last night JG54's horde of 3 hit a base with B17's then came back with 110's and a goon. In the mean time, the evil knight horde of 4 figured out what we were doing and put up a fight. After a 1 hour battle over the base, JG54 and friends didnt get the base capture but the 2 hordes of 4 had a great time!
It all depends on the size of the horde!

Keep up your assumptions. I am not the best, nor do I aspire to be the best in something as trivial as this hobby because this is NOT my only hobby. I'll be out in the real-worldly fresh air so someone else can take over abusing your sand box.

I'm sorry Moray, but this particular instance did not occur on baltic. This was on the current map in Orange. The map is still up.

they also flew straight past a group of lancs and 110's otw to their HQ and let us go. ????????
-
we horde for the following reasons
We hate other peoples fun and must kill it wherever and whenever we can.
We are nowhere near as leet as you and have no skills so we must horde to survive.
We actually enjoy flying with squaddies and friends and blowing stuff up and landing kills isn't as important as who you fly with.
And probably the most important reason.....we realize guys like you need something to cry on the boards about otherwise you take it out on your wife/girlfriend/pets.
-
Just up 45-50 guys and freight train a field.
45-50 guys??
Aren't you exagerating just a little bit??
Typical.
Think about it now, weren,t there really only 20 or so of the little devils??
Or were the other 20 or 30 guys doing the evil Noe dance?
And I bet they "freight trained" 30 fields too!!
-
Hordes can have fun I guess. I personally am not interested in being in one. To me a horde is insignificant no matter what size. I can fly against them or go elsewhere. If the terrain changes it changes for everyone.... even those that did not capture a thing. It doesn't keep me or anyone else from flying.
-

To each his own.
I don't see the fun or challenge of taking down 3 lancs in a 262, but people do it.
A couple of nights ago I upped on a capped field against the Devils Rejects and had a good time. :salute
The only problem that I have with hordes is that my frame rate dips if too many bad guys are in the area.
-
i was in a horde of one a few weeks ago.
i saw a low c2, and thought "yaknow what? that guy is stupid flyng alone like that."
so me, and my horde of myself and i inned on that lone c2.
me myself and i twisted and turned, we stalled once or twice, but eventually, the horde of me myself and i was too much for him.
llgaf<<S>> it was, and always is fun fights against you sir. even if me myself and i did horde ya. :rofl :noid :aok

No where in any of my post did I "dictate" to anyone how to have fun, I just asked a question looking for an honest answer. You on the other hand "told" me (aka dictate) "to find my own fun". Funny thing was, is a bunch of us had been going back and forth at those two bases for a couple of hours HAVING FUN until the horde came in and flattened everything.
Keep up your assumptions. I am not the best, nor do I aspire to be the best in something as trivial as this hobby because this is NOT my only hobby. I'll be out in the real-worldly fresh air so someone else can take over abusing your sand box.
Conjecture, conjecture, conjecture. Do you live on a mountain? Maybe the air is a bit thin up there, because its pretty simple math to figure out that even if all 38 P47's and ponys on carried 2 bombs each the was more ordinance than there was targets. The screen shot also shows 38 in your mission, and 6 up defending, so that means 6 A2A kills, and a few vulches, so even if it was spread out to just one each its still less than a third of your force got a kill.
You guys see a post from me on this stuff and I'll bet most of you who "defend the horde" don't even read them, or it you do, your so blinded by your "indignation" that your don't understand what is written. I AM ALL FOR MISSIONS ! Even missions with 40-50 guys in them. I'm sure many people are both for joining, and for fighting against, after all the whole idea of this game is for combat, and what better way to have combat than set up missions. The problem is using 40-50 guys to hit one base!! Years ago on the big maps when they first came out the counties/teams would set up Combined Squad Ops. I remember we must have had 8 or 9 squads working together one night, 70-80 guys !!! The battle raged for hours, on 3 fronts. We won some bases, we lost some bases, but we all had fun friends and ENEMIES alike.
The idea of posting a "horde" post, and asking the question "where's the fun in that?" is to get people to think. If those that flew for 45 minutes only to land at the freshly capture.... and totally annihilated base say to themselves..... "hmmm sure was fun flying with that group, but I didn't do squat, I'll bet it would have been better if they split some of us off to sink the CV too it could have been better" then maybe the next mission might have a few more elements to it, a bit more challenge to it, a bit more fun for both sides to it.

hey fugi.......just so ya know......my post wasn't a shot at you, or anyone else.
i was having fun, and my "warped humor" dial was turned up a little high this morning. :D

BTW I was light and I did get a kill, anyways. By no means am I am trying to be condsending, but we actually did take two bases at once. Some went for the base and town, others went for cap, others went onto the V-base to knock out hangers and pork troops and others went for the CV anchored off the coast. So yes at the point where you seen everyone grouped up there may have been 38 planes. But in the larger picture many of those 38 planes did split off into various directions.

No, actually. If you look slightly to the left(http://mail.yimg.com/a/i/mesg/tsmileys2/20.gif), I live near Nyssa, Oregon. There are no mountains here, and no soap box to stand on to preach my own definition of proper Aces High ediquette & protocol. The air is quite fresh here amongst the farms, fields & sagebrush, and I know that if yer' horse bucks you off, you don't cry to Mommy about it.
These folks made a choice to join the mission. It is quite impossible to force them to join. I apologize if my demeanor is too likeable by those on the Bish side of the fence for your exhalted taste. I believe you, sir, want me to make things easier to appease you. Kind of like pureeing carrots.

Fugitive, I guess this is the question you want answered. Well, there is no single answer. Using your numbers, 39 guys in the mission would probably have 39 reasons why they joined the mission. Each person has their own idea what is fun, just like each player in Aces High has their own reason for playing.
Some may join to be with friends. Some may be new to the game and are just hanging out with the crowd. One may have been ganged one to many times that night, and wanted to be on the side that was doing the ganging. Maybe someone was tired of GVing and decided to fly a little. Maybe there was someone who gets a thrill out of seeing a building blow up. There are countless reasons, and there is no way someone could answer your question with a single reason.
Myself, I join to be with friends. After they roll a couple of bases, I get bored, so I usually hang around one of the bases we took and start defending. Usually a pretty good furball starts as a result of the base being taken. They may still be running missions, but I'm in a furball which is what I like. Sometimes I join because when I see who is in them I know there is going to be some funny conversations while enroute.
So the bottom line is there is no single honest answer. One thing to consider is, what is fun to one may not be fun to another. I don't understand why someone climbs to 20,000 feet time after time to get some picks, and then run as soon as someone gets co alt. I guess they are having fun their way, so be it. We each play to have fun, at least I hope that's why we all play the game, but your fun may not be whats fun to another or vice versa.

Now there is a class act. Couldn't reply without throwing out sarcastic remarks, innuendo, and insults.
Maybe you look at as "making it easier", but I look at as making it more fun for everyone. You already do this to a certain extent. I'm sure even if your low and slow and another guy dives in on you you still try to fight it out from a loosing position. You could bail and deny the guy a fight, but you stick it out. It's more fun for you, and I'm sure its more fun for the guy your fighting.
A horde is the same thing, the horde denies the defenders a chance to fight. But hey, rock on dude. You killed a good fight that people were having fun at for more than 2 hours. You didn't want to be bothered with hitting any of the other 35-40 bases along the front you could have chosen.
Fred, I guess I wasn't really looking for an answer to the question. You are right, there could be many answers to fit there. I guess the point of the question was to get people to think a bit about the situation. Did they really have fun in that mission? Being one of the last third of the force to get to the base and find it flattened, and no bad guys up to shoot down. Maybe to get them thinking, "What could we have done different to make it more fun for more people?"
But thanks for a great reply.
-
Well.... I can easily say that I have never heard any type of complaint about Egg's missions. Seem's like 9 out of 10 times he has to add more slots because more people want to join up and have a good time. Oops, I had to say "have a good time", sorry you don't agree with people playing the way they want to but it has been noted for future disregard.
If this type of horrible behavior offends you so much that you feel the need to get a thread going... you might want to seek some other form of cartoon pilot entertainment.

I just asked a question looking for an honest answer.
Fred, I guess I wasn't really looking for an answer to the question.

Seem's like 9 out of 10 times he has to add more slots because more people want to join up and have a good time.
I can attest to that. Even if I chose not to add slots, guess what? People would chose to roll along with the mission anyway. At any rate, it's once in a great while I do something like this. Most times during the week, it doesn't happen. I'm not on, or I prefer to do my own thing with my squad. Fridays- well... look out. (There's a clue. :huh) And I'm usually too inebriated to be an effective fighter pilot. But again, guess what? Hitech designed this game so EVERYONE has their particular nitch. Mine seems to be communication with folks, having a sociably good time, and blowing **** up (on Friday nights...there's that damn clue again :huh).
Fugitive, I think you will survive. Get over it.

If you people keep complaining......... I'm thinking we should just go back to NOE hordes. After all, can't beetch like a SallyGirl about NOE's, might as well call 30 people, HAVING THEIR FUN, a silly dumb horde too. Why should I care about YOUR fun? (LLogann is not in this picture but admits to enjoy flying as they did IRL....... With 15/31/43/63 other sticks.)
+1 i agree its truely the lamest thing about AH.
The thing that bothers me is...
Where's the challenge to having 40 planes...
Its sad that 40 guys get together and...

GOD you are dense ! I understand that the Bish love your missions, I understand that you need to add more spaces to accommodate those who wish to join you, Thats GREAT !!! I applaud you and you missions. < ---- PLEASE NOTE NONE OF THIS IS SARCASM, all I'm saying is when you have the numbers, split your force to hit multiple targets. In doing this you have fun, everyone who joins your missions has fun, and yes even the guys you are hitting can have fun because its only 2 on 1 in stead of 6 on 1.
If on Friday night you get together with your squad and defend a base, and lo and behold a horde comes in and flattens everything. You move on to the next base, and here they come again. How long does your fun last? How soon before your squadies start logging in frustration? If the horde that was hitting you splits and hits a few bases at the same time, you guys stick around, having more fun, hanging with each other. Maybe you even stop the mission at that base while they capture the other two, but its still fun because its not a steam roller.
I'm not telling anyone how to fly, or how to play the game, I'm asking for a little consideration and for people to spread the fun out. Thats all, is that tough to understand?

After me, it'll be some one else, and some one else. There's <<<YEARS>>> of this stuff in past threads. It has not stopped, and therefore is unlikely to stop. Whines & complaints have proved to do nothing.
-
Why can't we all just get along?
Fugitive, don't let him lie to you........ He runs the horde even when not in-game. :D

I'm sorry Moray, but this particular instance did not occur on baltic. This was on the current map in Orange. The map is still up.
Lol, so there were two distinctly separate hordes. That's even mo betta. ;)
It's not the Mega Squad that will ruin this game (per Hitech).....it's the mega hordes. Many just leave the area now, instead of defend. This will all eventually end up in a tile limiting equation, like Air Warrior had forever ago. You couldn't up if there were a certain number flying in that area.

Again, see below. I know the boobies are distracting, but focus..

Except for we upped at least 2 or 3 sectors out. Plenty of time to mount a interception. Rooks are typically very good at this, Is it our fault most seem to ingnore the dar? Besides EVERY country hordes, puts on horde missions. I've flown for all three, they are all the same!

We should wait for Fugitive to put out rules on how to properly play the game. Because everyone has the same idea of fun and we are all the same skill level.
Finally we have found the one true voice of the AH community.............thank you Fugitive for finally stepping up and being that one voice who can show us the error of our ways.
Please post the rules and proper etiquette for the community. We all cannot wait to start playing by your rules.......who can imagine the amount of fun that awaits.

Fugitive I fully understand what you are saying, and I do agree. There is an issue that would make it difficult for what you suggest be successful.
The problem with most missions is they are announced and joined by a variety of folks. Many are spur of the moment things. Like I stated in an earlier post players have their various reasons for joining. This is not like the real military where you are mandated to follow the orders of the leader. I have found players in this game seem to take offense at the littlest things. I have been involved in missions that took multiple bases, but to do it correctly and successfully there has to be some planning involved before the mission is launched. Then you have the issue whether the players joining will follow the directions (orders) if the one leading the missions.
Your suggestions works well in the larger squads, but I don't want to even start that argument.

Saw a large horde the other day and said hey this looks like fun. Announced I was heading that way, said my prayers, and ended up getting a few kills and landing. Noticed the Lynch Mob responded quite well.

I'm glad you are around to tell those guys they are not having fun, because apparently they were under the mistaken belief that they actually were having fun.

I join almost all bish missions big or small and its fun no matter what happens. I have also been against massive noes and been out numbered 10 to 1 and still had fun. Its the attitude you have that makes your fun or not.

If your going to quote me quote the whole thing....
If on Friday night you get together with your squad and defend a base, and lo and behold a horde comes in and flattens everything. You move on to the next base, and here they come again. How long does your fun last? How soon before your squadies start logging in frustration? The part of the quote you remove states what if you where being hit by the horde? If they were continually getting hammered by the horde steam roller , NO they would not be having fun. The hordes cause the arena splits, what will be next to slow the horde?
