Why don't we make it two weapons - one firearm and one regular item.
I'll post mine after a few folks do theirs.
-
Probably a silenced M21, and a base ball bat with a nail in it

...until they glow.

Can I use my secret weapon?
Is it a bowl of Hitechs chili?
-
I would have a backup USP, or a P226. I would rather use a melee baseball bat, or machete.
-
Any Semi Auto shotgun and a baseball bat filled with nails like raptor said. .44 magnum would be a nice side arm aswell! :devil
-

Its this :D (http://iambrony.jsmart.web.id/mlp/gif/85fhinkl.gif) And it does this for you :x (http://iambrony.jsmart.web.id/mlp/gif/sU1q2.gif)
Sorry found a site with a crap load of Gif's, I couldn't help it, plus a robotic killing pony thing that says swag would be so freaking epic
-
I would take a hunting rifle because I want the zombies to stay as far away as possible, and a shovel, because even when I run out of ammo I can still knock them down 4'+ away.
-
.17 HMR or .22 Mag with hollow points. Accurate, easy to shoot fast, and above all can carry way more ammo than anything else.
-
You're not thinking outside the box.
A semi auto shotgun with a huge ammo load in a box or ammo drum would be my choice of firearm..it does the job up close and far enough for me to get away..and with area effect damage.
As for 'other'... well, thats the out of the box thinking one.
I'd take along a good supply of dermestid beetles (Dermestes maculatus). These are the beetles that eat dead flesh in a matter of hours.
Now, granted, a matter of hours wont save you from a zombie hoard but if you saturate an area with they're like a self-replicating landmine. Any zombie coming inside the area will get gobbled up by them. And they expand as they reproduce. These beetles do not eat living flesh but will rabidly consume any decaying flesh (including gangrene on a living person)..and the undead are certainly decaying.
-
Can we keep in mind the more noise we make the more zombies we will have to deal with thus the more ammo that will be wasted
-
according to the zombie survival guide a shaolin spade is the ideal melee weapon, and some kind of rifle for range :old:
-
I'd definitely say a lead pipe and an M14/FAL or really any type of .308 assault rifle. .22 mag is a good idea I would say for the city if noise can be a problem, but I'd rather have the .30 caliber one shot power.
-
Can't go wrong with an AR-15 for the firearm. A good aluminum baseball bat would come in handy too, easy to wield but still packs a punch.

Cool. I'll take a closer look at them and see what is out there now. Thanks.

Mossberg M500 Shotgun for close quarters. Extended Range any 30.06 and a descent scope for long range ideally.
Realistically However an automatic nail gun- since nails will eventually be more plentiful than cartridge rounds will be (and in less demand), Caltrops... wont hurt but will help to slow them down by unbalancing the already awkward limp they have, and if I can find the luxury- a Flame thrower.
In the event that traditional ammo runs out the standard compound bow or cross bow (assuming I can aim decently) and piano wire- lots of it. Why? easy decapitation. It's gruesome, but the insurgency used it with some moderate success in Iraq against coalition convoys (usually gunners). It's thin and given the addled alertness of Zombies- perfect (you also don't have to be in constant contact for it to work....)
just my thoughts...

I think, if I am expecting to be on the move a lot... Then the 22LR weapons are pretty smart. Anyone who has ever carried much ammo at once knows that high powered rounds are quite heavy.
22LR has the advantage of being small and light. Should be quite effective on zombies. After all, from watching The Walking Dead, we have learned that zombie skulls apparently soften enough that pocket knives penetrate fairly easily. A 22LR Hollow Point should be quite effective. Plus, 22LR is pretty easy to suppress if you're worried about attracting more zombies with the noise.
So... I'll carry my Ruger 22/45 pistol and my Ruger 10/22 which I have scoped. A back pack of ammo would be a crap load, and the ammo will work in either weapon.
Then I'm thinking a good fighting knife like a K-Bar and maybe a katana designed for cutting (not a wall hangar).
-
it depends of if you are outside or inside. if outside it wont matter you are pretty much dead as you wont be able to kill them all. if inside, anything with a silencer so as not to draw attention to more zombies to your house.

My weapon?
A cruise ship. I'd hang out there until the zombies either rot, dehydrate, or freeze. It'd only take a week or two in most places.

Would be kind of scary, one of them could be hiding in a part of the ship that isn't easily accessible, person accidentally wanders there gets bit, infects all the survivors, could make a horror story off of this plot hehe
Gonna write instead of sleep tonight this idea is to pure! :devil

My handy AR-15. Ammo is lighter than the 30.06 for my Garand, loads more easily in a panic than my SKSs, I don't need "knock down power" if I need a headshot to kill something, and the bayonet provides a blade for up-close work.
-
All you need to do is find out a way to make it to my house in a zombie apocalypse. With our combined resources our anti zombie fortress will be impenetrable.

This guy gets it. :aok
An AR15 with quick follow up shots, low power optics, ability to carry boat loads of ammo, and the abundance of extra ammo and spare parts is paramount to survival in a zombie world. :aok Besides, do not let anyone spew that an AK has more "knock down" power than an M16/M4/AR15 (the old 5.56 NATO vs 7.62x39 Soviet debate).

YES! lol. I've got a nice stockpile of 30.06 and over 1,000rds of XM855 on strippers, plus the Garand now has a bayonet too, for more up-close work...

Better get a good pair of boots as well. :bolt:
-
what it amazes me is that everybody forgets that only a headshot can bring down a zombie, so the biggest baddest guns may not necessarily apply as almost anything will give you a headshot if you can aim it. btw a shotgun is not a good idea as zombies have a tendency to not walk head to head if you know what i mean.

I agree. A good target pistol like a Ruger 22/45 is incredibly easy to be accurate with, and should be all the punch you need for zombie noggins.

See, I don't want to have to change magazines every 10 rounds, not to mention the limited range of the gun. A 10/22 with a 25 round magazine could be an acceptable alternative, though I still lean towards the AR-15 for reliability and punch.

The SA shotgun is there for when they've gotten too close and surprised you. A USAS12 or something along those lines if I could find it, any tactical shotgun if I couldn't. Aim for the head of the close one, hopefully whatever goes past/around it does some damage to the one behind, or you get a twofer.
The .22LR/Mag is for when you're fortified or making a slow retreat. It would be the one I would be planning on using most often. Just get set up and knock them down around the base of the building. An AR wouldn't be a terrible thing to have, but ammo's significantly heavier than .22. Quick googlage yields weight per 100 rounds of .22LR is 0.75 lbs. Weight per 100 rounds of .223 is ~2.5 lbs. To me, that makes the choice clear.
While blades don't run out of ammo, the operators do get tired. I'm pretty leery of letting them get that close. The flesh eating beetles are an intriguing idea, but I would have to question if they would in fact become zombie flesh eating beetles, as that would indeed be bad.

It'd be swell if you were riding around on a semi with a trailer full of ammo. :) Otherwise, heavy and punishing. I'd love to have one with a 'few' rounds as a last-ditch gun, but I sure wouldn't have it as my primary weapon.
Actually, that's one of the Mrs' and my plans... Semi with full size sleeper and a tanker full of diesel and a cow catcher. Possibly flamethrower equipped depending on availability of fuel...

if you just want to knock them down then the baseball bat is more appropriate. but if they get within baseball bat/shotgun range, then you are already dead. in which case the only option is to point the shotgun at yourself. unless of course you would rather join the zombies :).

I don't think melee zombie combat is all that advisable. Sitting on top of a rooftop or bus with a polearm? Possibly useful.
Seems to me the ideal shotgun range would be around 15-20 yards. The pattern's opened up enough you may get more than just the one you're aiming at. Line em up not quite single file if you can. :)
As to the reloading of the boomstick, careful study of the film record of the incident shows that you break it over the chainsaw arm, and reload it with your other hand.

I'll take my trusty .45, failing that a full suit of chainmail with good leather boots, and a full faced helm+chin strap. Who cares if you're surrounded by 1,000 zombies, they aren't likely to bite through chainmail. Hell my dog couldn't even chew through my leather combat boots. (Boy did he try.) I'd like to see the rotting jaw muscles of a re-animated corpse bite through steel rings.
Sure I'll get tired eventually, but all I need to do is find a stairwell/corner and start hacking until I've made myself a nice little wall of dead zombies.

I like the chainmail and beetles idea the best (as long as the beetles are immune to the zombification process, as previously stated).
Personally I'm inexperienced with actual firearms, but I know how to swing a baseball bat, so I'd start with that. And hope they're more of the Living Dead type zombies than the 28 Days Later type. I have however participated in many Humans vs. Zombies games on Purdue's campus. So at least I have an idea of the kind of things that get people killed.

Cut the ladders off, build a cover over the bucket and install a jib crain to load supplies, and to load and unload your scout vehicle. If you ran out of ammo, just drops rocks off of it to smash their heads.

If that was a possibility you're screwed on the long term as then you'd have zombie mosquitos, zombie roaches, zombie bees, etc... you aint escaping that horde.
