Title: Der Grosse Schlag, what's going on anyway?
Post by: ROC on May 22, 2012, 08:24:21 PM
Yes, it's been asked.

Where is the registration?  Where is the event writeup?

Not here yet.  The event isn't until October and November for crying out loud!!  Then...QUAH?  Why all the posts, threads and banter mucking up the forums?  Well, we are team building. Yes, that is right, team building.  We are drawing people to the event early, people that want to invest months in learning the history of the squads, planes and time period that was the foundation of this event design.  We are building teams that want to fight for each side, no matter the planes, no matter the map, no matter the objectives, but are fighting for a cause!  The Cause??  Because we want to have a blast!

Our goal is to provide a very unique experience in this scenario.  I, personally, look forward to flying with each group as we practice, train, drill, discuss abilities and obstacles.  We have time for this.  Months in fact, really, alot of months.  It would be the greatest of successes when, after the events final frame, there is a real sense of loss as the teams are dismissed and the last shot is fired.

It has been years since an event of this scale and caliber has been presented to the AH community.

Don't miss this.  Get on board early, but be ready to invest your time and energy into a long, sustained effort.

Who knows, we might grow so tight the next scenario is nothing more than a challenge pitting our teams against each other again :)

Both sides are drawing old school dropouts back into the game.  Both sides are drawing newer players into an event and showing them a whole new way to play.  There is something for everyone that wants to see what this game can truly be, because simply put, the game is simply the board.  We are the pieces, and we can make it what ever we want.

Axis is recruiting.

Feel free to contact Brooke or myself, along with the excellent Group Leaders representing us.

KillrDan
Sasmox

Stampf
IrishOne

Wildcat1

A8's, G14s, K4's, D9s, perhaps even some 410s.

Allies have some planes also, but frankly, you might as well fly some recycled tin cans because they just aren't going to last as long, but if you want a challenge and are into bloody pain filled weekends, they do need some fodder...errr.... I mean B17, B24 PeeeFittyOnes and stuff flown around for us to shoot at.  We would be eternally grateful to those who fly the Allied side for us, we don't want to be bored and start shooting each other.

Well, what about the ones who want to wait until October and just sign up?  Go ahead.  Wait.  It's ok.  There might not be room, but you can also walk on as a 6 frame event does require a great deal of commitment and real life often intrudes.  There will usually be a spot, but simply put, if you are going to sign up last minute then you are only going to experience the small, minor part of the event and that is the flying part during the frame.  You are going to miss MOST of the event.  Consider this, you may be sitting on the sidelines never quite understanding the inside jokes, never understanding why we are going east then south instead of north and west, you are simply going to go where you are told when you are told to go there.  Dull!  Boring!!  You will never get up to speed with 4 months of these teams preparing themselves in a 10 minute brief.  You would be silly expecting it.  So if you want in, get in, get in now.

Or wait.  That's ok too.  But don't wait then talk about how shallow the experience was, because we won't be listening.

Carry on, thanks  :D

Corky, you guys are cheating already.

Fencer is supposed to be out here on the forums making comments and ticking people off so I attract the players who want to shoot his butt down!  But nooooo, you gotta come on all nice and sweet and stuff.  Fine, I'm gonna have Brooke start posting.  He's the Nice XO for Axis  :neener:

56th FG Zemkes Wolfpack Roster (so far) and in no particular order.
Hajo CO
LilMak XO
Shamus OPs Officer
Skully
AkaMixer
Vudu
BushLt
Bodhi
Pollock (original member of the old 56th)
1OldCoot
Six
Nexx
Messiah
Chauncy
Rob53
BJ229
ALFAMEGA
Sukov

I may have missed a few.....dam crown royal. (where'd those two barmaids go???)  As you can see....the 56th had no problems filling the roster!

If anyone wants rides best join in quickly.  We are having a blast already behind the scenes.  Don't miss out on the immersion, history, and fun!
BTW....56th still taking applications  :aok  And lots of historical Fighter and Bomber squadrons still have slots open.  Gett'em quick before they're gone.
A little history of the 56th.  When all was said and done.....the 56th FG had 42 aces fly its' colors.  That is impressive.

The side forums are open, people are making commitments via pm, and are being added based on that. Group leaders were selected the way they've always been selected, by sending the CO a messege of intent. Consider actual registration to be a final confirmation, because teams will be formed well before registration opens

That doesn't seem very fair. Why register when registration is closed? I guess everyone wants to be a 56th FG, why not give everyone the same chance to be in that squad?

And feel like you're flying a very small dog/cat carrier!  He looks so cramped that would need Vaseline to extricate himself from the cockpit after the sortie!

Everyone has a chance to be in a squad. All you have to do is contact a CO, XO, or group leader.

There are multiple posts on the boards saying just that.

Ooooohhhhhhh bringing this one back?!?! I might have to invest in some new hardware, joystick and throttle, and get my account set back up. Flew in the last one as part of the Mighty 8th in B-17's and had an absolute blast!!! This might be worth getting back in the game for!!

So you gonna whine about it or do you want to fly? :)

If you want Axis PM Brooke or ROC,   If you want Allied PM myself or Fencer.

We may register as a squad, or at least try....but the event is 6 months away still

Go back to the top and read what ROC said.  There is a lot more going on then just the event in October.  Lots of prep, history and silliness.   That's why folks are getting involved now.  You can wait, but you'll miss half the fun.

Noir....get in there!  PM the leaders of either side and let them know your intentions.

Historical fighter groups on both sides need pilots.  You are missing the fun we are having behind the scenes.

I couldn't think of 4CMs better then ROC, Brooke, Fencer, or Guppy to create such early excitement and fun.
(well...I could prolly find another at least equal to Fencer...but that's another story for another day..hmmm....I may be be setting the bar low)  :rofl

In any case I don't like that PM system for registration. Its not very fair to the newcomers or anyone not ready (or not able) to lobby just to get the spot in the squad he wants.

And It makes the automated registration useless.

I don't find teamspeak meetings at 2am very exciting.

End of the whine. We'll contact the CO's when we know what we'll do.

Well, considering the low registration numbers the last few events, we are trying something different.  Which side have you been flying the last two or three events?  Might be time to try something else.

Oh, and no teamspeak meetings lasting hours on the allied side.

Roc likes to hear himself talk, so he might have those.

Oh Hajo, how are your Barmen doing?

It's interesting watching the personalities on these forums.

There are people who are proactive, energized, positive, and actually doing something, then there are those who are sitting on the sidelines, waiting until the last minute for some else to do all the work, think they are going to just waltz in and play "pew pew" and think they will have fun all the while complaining about those who have laid the foundation for them in the first place.

hehe, that's so cute.

It's not Fair that a bunch of people are working their collective butts off and you might not get to wait until the last minute and join Noir?  Really?

I don't think you understand that this is exactly what has hurt the events the most.  Get over it.

this is the 2nd time in 2 days you have gotten pissy with someone about this event, mabe you need to chill out and understand that not everyone will see things your way or want to follow you in your ways. telling people directly or indirectly to "piss off" wont vote well for you in your quest to have people "join in the fun".

I can see ROC's point; those that have something invested are the ones that will show for the event, no matter what. This scenario is already turning out to better than any of the ones I have flown in Aces High, if you want in on it, post your request in the scenario forums as no one is being turned away. Even some of the old timers that haven't played in some time have come back and are taking part (increasing HTC's revenue I might add).

Get involved, don't ask for a spot now just to sit on it until October.

Damn, I must lobbying all wrong since my 'leet' ride doesn't even have guns. In fact, my ride will actually take additional personal time before and after a scenario but it will make the immersion better for everyone.

I was confused at first too.  Until ROC explained the thoughts behind this approach, and I got into the side forum and seen he has pron playing on the ready room big screen 24/7.

Hopefully Registration fills up before it even opens.  These guys can always add more airplanes.

Quite frankly, registration isn't open yet. People took their own liberty to PM the COs requesting spots after the setup was announced. The CM team isn't getting rid of the registration system. Everyone gets equal opportunity to fly in these events as it is being advertised all over the forum.

People who want to get involved will get involved.

Also understand that both teams are working their tails off recruiting and doing all kinds of things to make this both fun and interesting.  And Im talking about more then just the team CO/XO combos.  GLs have been working hard to fill slots and many of the folks involved as pilots are offering their time to contribute to the build up and the history going into this thing.

It's not expected but sure appreciated and encouraged  :aok

To ROCs point when I was gruppe lead (III/54) and Axis XO during Battle Over Germany it was pretty time intensive. The recruiting, attempts at training, then as XO for all of the walk-on assignments, trying to fit requests, etc. The simple game for me was running 5+ hours per scenario of just administrative work attempting to and make it fun times for all. It was a pain but well worth it, which leads to my 50/50 response now. As busy as it is I know to do it right it will be more then showing up 30 minutes before they close the arena. And with as much lead time before this one kicks off a proper gruppe/squad and Axis/Allied leader is going to spend much time training his crew as opposed to wracking up kills in the MA. And my time commitment was minimal compared to those 6-8 sticks who really pulled off BOG.

These events don't just happen, and much kudos to those who make it look easy. <S>

<------ this guy is tired...not as tired as the lead CMs but the GL's XOs' and OPS Officers are involved in our crew.
Just making lists on rosters, recruiting, BBS name, planning element leads as well as flight leads and wingmen.  Trying to figure
out who  flies with who.  Jug training in some instances...not the MA type but the high alt escort/interceptor role.
And not to mention real life work.  This is really a labor of love for a lot of us.  Immersion is what can happen when two
serious opposing disciplined crews get together realizing the history behind it, the fun to be had trying to emulate it,
and the men who actually flew and made history.  All these things combined equal one thing.  FUN!
It sure helps take my mind off of real world problems for awhile.  That is what fun is for. This is what DGSII can become!
It's up to all of us.
It is, in the end, our fault if we don't have fun. The tools are here.

this is the 2nd time in 2 days you have gotten pissy with someone about this event, mabe you need to chill out and understand that not everyone will see things your way or want to follow you in your ways. telling people directly or indirectly to "piss off" wont vote well for you in your quest to have people "join in the fun".

I don't know about the first time, I did not see it,  but this time he's dead on. Why would someone complain about not being able to join when all they have to do is say "i want in".

Even worse they actualy want someone to hold a spot for them just in case they want to join at the last minute. Last time I checked there are many things you don't get to do if you don't stand up and take your turn.

There are many slots open.... join in!

I'm actually glad to see the 56th with such a stout roster.  The real 56th and the real JG11 met many times over Europe, and when I first came to AH and started JG11 the ole AH 56th was a hard master and kicked our butts many a night.  Looking very forward to replaying the historical meetings and repaying the AH ones.   :aok

Oh, and no teamspeak meetings lasting hours on the allied side.

Hey Boo.  I didn't see you in the Axis Forum as the 54th's leader this morning.  C'mon man...you can not miss this one.  It is already most unlike others.  I would enjoy serving together again.  A whole heck of allot of teamwork and support being shown by the entire Axis team already.  Get in here man...this is going to be the show of the century, and something the AH community hasn't seen before on this level or intensity.  <S>

The all to often 6 view of a 190 pilot in the skies over Europe.

And finally a Charcoal that I commisioned by Joel Somerset a few years back. Titled "Thunderbolts Playground.  (And yes this is right side up)
This happens when 190s and P47s try to share the same sky.....the 190s get wasted!  Get out the marshmallows!

...fight'n words, those be.

It's a good thing the 190's will have the skilled pilots of the Bf109 covering them like a warm fuzzy.

Like on this day... when Rall blasted 2 P47's out of the sky (including Zemke's wingman)...before bailing out himself.

Interesting reactions to ROC's picture of a fencer.  It seems like the Allies are nervous about something...

The Axis doesn't use fencing analogies, but you may have been confused by the prevailing opinion that the Allied attacks will be foiled.  Personally, I prefer "thwarted" or "crushed" to avoid these kinds of miscommunications.  :)

If anything, ROC's piloten would be better described as weapons of mass destruction.   :neener:

Ahhh Yep.. of the own planes.

Evaluating a different data set (the Bestandsmeldungen from early 1942 to December 1944), I have been able to compare the relation between losses through enemy action and other operational losses for the Me 109 and the Fw 190 for all units of the Luftwaffe for the time period in question.

(Data source: Flugzeugbestand und Bewegungsmeldungen, 3.42 - 12.44 )

The results:

Me 109: 9681 losses to enemy action, 8791 other losses - 47.6% of the losses are without enemy action
Fw 190: 5389 losses to enemy action, 4934 other losses - 48.8% of the losses are without enemy action

During Battle Over Germany there were a couple runs where entire buff formations were wiped out to a plane before reaching their target. Hhmmm

After dinner Allied pilots will be holding an annual fall Flea market. They received mass quantities of leather goods
imported from Germany 2 for 1 on All Assless Chaps  :devil

Secret Intel shot of Luft Pilot wearing said Chaps  and getting out of Dodge when he heard the sound of allied Planes overhead. :rofl

this might help get your scenario juices flowing guys - I made a short film out of some of my Enemy Coast Ahead footage. it was probably the most fun I've had in all my time playing AH...you can tell the amount of adrenaline pumping through me by all of the terrible shooting :D

sorry if the icons turned on in some places offends you, but I wanted it to be more illustrative of gameplay than arty  :joystick:   be sure to watch in high quality

Nice Coombz. I noted the inevitable "watch your 6 Corky" call in there :)

I'd fly that again in a heartbeat, even in my battered old Spit V  :)

Oh, Man. This looks like a blast! Hopefully I can get off of this tin-can satellite internet and get a good enough income to join in before this event starts.

If I can make it. Mind a newbie pilot in a 109G or 410? :D

I will likely just end up being a target dummy to distract those pesky Allied fighters while the good pilots get the bombers. :neener:

...a whole lot of this...

Precision section attacks against massed heavy raiders...

...vox goes silent...your own thoughts on the volume of enemy defensive fire waiting to meet you...and the calibre of the men around you...

...You're IN!

Splash two!...and...you make it through...

...the raiders' ships are ablaze and falling from the sky...

...the schwarmen are intact...your mates are laughing and calling out in the lust of victory...

...and still there is more hot work to do...

Don't be late... Feel the Experience...

Fly Luftwaffe in Der Grosse Schlag II.

Update!

Those of you as of now that are not involved it's time to jump on board!

The Forums are full on both sides and rides if not selected will soon be at

initial squadron numbers.  The forums on both sides are

chock full of History, Pictues and just good'ole everyday fun.  Get in while ya

can.  Corky is doing our allied personal rides and nose art.  I'd prefer you

join allied, coz hey.....you'll have more fun turning LW aircraft into scrap!

The falling Luftwaffe iron just may cause as much damage as our bombers ord!

I'm sure Fencer and Corky can add planes....so can the other side....

I can't remember the Axis CO/XO names...it doesn't matter   :neener:

How will radar be handled? Germninz have it, Alliez not?

If so, some happy Luftie-bod on the ground will have the fate of the mission in his hands.
