Any Bikers in here?

Best bits of UK for biking?

Avoid anywhere likely to be a tourist haunt if you want good riding. Derbyshire is popular with bikers though its crowded to hell, Wales is good but heavily policed. You can still have fun though just keep em peeled. I'd try Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, The road between St Neots and kimbolton in Northamptonshire is a cracker its the A45.
Wiltshire is good East anglia is pretty good, while there check out Duxford museum, and of course Scotland. Oh and check out the National motorcycle museum in Birmingham. They had a fire but many of the bikes have been restored so its worth a visit.

Going to Europe? The Alps, the Furka pass is great. But the Alps full stop. France try the Auvergne region. Brilliant roads and stunning extinct volcanoes. the Pyrenees are great much less crowded than the Alps too. Germany got to be the Eiffel Mts and the Nurbergring or the Black Forest. Belgium the Ardennes is a must especialy around Spa Francorchamps. We'll be going to the Dolomites this summer in the South tyrol ,Italy so I'll let you know how that went.

Have fun:aok

"Sport Bike Riders are pretenders? You could say the same thing about accountants on Harley's pretending to be bad ass. Not sure why you have such a thing for hating sports bikes. Maybe it's because they make harleys look slow."

"could say"??? I DO say that all the time.. they are pretenders.   I don't think you are honestlyu saying that street bikes can competete with single purpose race bikes and I think you know that 99% of the morons on sprotbikes are phony pretenders.

I have ridden 160 hp Harleys (at the rear wheel)that are very streetable.   It is you who is showing his predjudice.

Face it.... most people are laughing at you pretenders.   The only ones not laughing are the medics who scrape you up and shake their head at your stupid stunts.

If I had one I would probly paint it flat black and stip it down and take it out once in a while to beat the crap out of and hope I didn't get caught and lose my licence... I certainly would not want to be seen on it or use it for errands or to get somewhere.   If I wanted to enjoy a motorcycle ride I would get on something tha tI could sit up on and smell, see and hear the scenery on.

I have driven a +500hp/80ft/+100k lb trucks and those were also very steerable and comfortable to drive.

I don't understand what point you are trying to make Laz.

My Honda 900F had lowish bars and I had to lean over to ride it and the fairing was low as well. But it was comfortable to ride. I took the fairing off and rode it with higher bars for a while and the wind at highway speed made it very tiring.

The forward lean made it easier to throw your weight around which made it easier to change lanes and go around corners. The instruments were easy to see. As far as looking at the scenery I wear a full face helmet (and think anyone who rides a bike without a helmet it an idiot) so you don't really get the wind in your face experience regardless of how you are sitting.

I think some of the most uncomfortable bikes I have ever seen are the custom choppers they make on all those shows. They put long rake frames and low seats that force you to lean forward and the bars are up high so you are holding your arms up, really it just looks like a very uncomfortable ride. But I guess the comfort is secondary to the "cool" factor.

Habu you are right. Custom cruisers are bloody uncomfortable. All theweight on your lower back a*se. Useless at anything over 60unless you have no neck. Lazs I agree for general street riding, heads down bum up is uncomfortable too. I like a happy medium. Ducati monsters are good for this as are streetfighter styled bikes like the speed triple.

:aok

This is a good mile muncher too and has higher bars than it looks

Buy British!

BS.... `60s style choppers are one of the most comfortable means of gettin from point A to point B there is. Instead jacking your *** up in the air and gettin filler cap impressions on your chest like the diiiiingg diiinnnnggggers, you sit comfortably back with arms at a very comfortable postion . (BTW If it aint aped, it aint watermelon :D )
When you extend, rake and lower you are lowering the center of gravity also. While you are layed , looking as comfortable as Al Bundy in front ot the tube, you can roll that puppy into a turn and it will stick like birdchit to a winshield.

LOL

Maybe you should actually read your own posts and what your constantly repeating.

And yes I meant what I said about street bikes and race bikes difference. I could take a street 600 put some slicks on it and keep up with half the pack at most meetings. Unless of course your talking Superbikes or GP bikes.

You seem to be  keen on the looking tough in matt black image, have you ever tried speedway solo's or sidecards? Toughest form of motorcycling  I've ever tried. There you have 160hp, dirt, a wooden wall and no brakes.

Yet you think 160hp Harley is tough, fast or something to write about? LOL.

That's because they have 2 gallon tanks, and your stopping at every gas station to fill it up.

And rolling into corners is a good way to put it.  :lol

So is this why we're posting on a BBS dedicated to a game flying vintage fighters? I geuss I should be playing Lock On or Falcon 4 :)

Actually, I took the '89 Honda 250R out of the parents garage yesterday and played in the dirt for awhile. Brought back memories of riding a little honda with a de-tuned 50cc and custom training wheels my grandfather made for me, "blasting" around their property. Ahh the good ol' days :)

...okay, back to humping that football...
