Any Bikers in here?

IMO, helmets should be the riders choice.

I had a crash in '77 where I hit a curb with the side of my face while upside down flying through the air at 25mph. Doc said that if I had a full face lid on I'd probably have broken my neck. My face absorbed the impact shattering my jawbone but my lid protected my temple area.

For me, a lid is a manditory piece of equipment for every ride. The fact that most states require helmets is just an indicator of how politicians use their position to force their beliefs, whether they be safety, religious or moral issues, on their constituants...I don't like it a bit.

Another stupid thing that may happen in California is that there's talk in Sacramento of requiring motorcycles in this state to pass a smog check every year. Trying to pull the state out of it's financial woes, this is what politicans come up with. A law like this could wipe out both the custom builders and the after market exhaust business here in Ca. I can't belive the Collectinator would sign something like this since he rides also.

Despite all the stupid laws forced on riders by state and federal government, they will never be able to stop me from riding or enjoying the ride.

Something cool happened on a ride I took last weekend. While riding up hwy 1 along the coast south of Half Moon Bay I looked in one of my mirriors and saw a plane comming up from my 7 just off the cliff over the beach. When he got to my 4oc I turned my head for a better look and saw a beautiful P51 skimming the cliff at what looked like about 250mph. As he got to my 3oc I could see the pilot giving me a thumb up sign. I could only imagine how much more fun he was having compaired to me at the time.

I believe in wearing helmets. If it werent for helmets I wouldnt be here today. All the guys who wear the nazi pots on there heads, I sort of get a chuckle thinking if they ever went down hard, then again each person is ultimately is responsible for their own safey. The law wont protect you from harm. Only you can when I  ride a mototorcycle I wear proper protective gear  and use sound judgement. I still have my jaw limbs and having a great time.

Jackle1 you aint making any sense.

Helmets let the rider decide.

Lazs riding a cruiser is about lolloping along enjoyiong the wind in the hair the different view and the ride, much like riding an old classic Brit bike. But riding is also about the buzz of leaning through a series of bends, feeling the suspension chassis working, the tyres on the edge of their grip etc

Riding in the winter? its that perverse sense of pitting oneself against the elements. You sure learn a lot about throttle control and handling when the roads are not so dry and grippy.

I like all kinds, I ride a modern(ish) bike, and a classic. I ride in hot summer, cold winter, fast on a sunny sunday cruising on classic runs, touring and seeing the rest of europe. It's all great.

How ya like that bandit? Brand new one(04 I think) on sale up the road.

Never owned a crotch rocket, but I'm thinking about it.

Honda360 at 15
Yamaha 750 through high school.
Kawi Vulcan 700 85 to present. I still own it, but it hasn't run in years.

I rode that Vulcan from California to dixie and back as a 20 year old. I don't know if I got the back or the balls to do it again at 40...

Well, if you call them crotchrockets you probably don't have the maturity to ride one.  Sportbikes sure are fun though if you take the time to figure out what the hell you're doing.

If I'm going on a cruise thru the country I'm not normally gonna wear a lid. But, if I'm riding in traffic it's my American Express. I don't leave home without it.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

Your hilarious Jackal.:p :)

I rode a cafe racer for awhile. Had to sell it when I went boat racing, not that it mattered much since I still got my speed fix.

Just fyi, a cafe racer is the grand daddy of your crotch rocket. :)

I grew up around bikes and the bay area and knew ness.   We hung out at his hole in the wall shop once in a while when he was small (he still is short)... One time he was showing us one of his hidious gold and candy sportsters (looked like an earlier version of that puke green smurfy bike in the above picture)... one of my buddies said...  "ahh... see you nessed up another one"... His bikes are nessed up to this day.

Helmets... Like a place I worked with a lot of low pipes and such..  before the hard hat rule nobody ever hit their head... after we were made to wear hardhats we all bumped our heads on the pipes regularly... anyone looking at all the scared up tops of our hardhats would conclude that the lids were indeed protecting us from injury.

Wear one or don't... there is some evidense that they worsen the injuries... There is lots of evidence that they make more sense in passenger vehicles.

As for sport bikes and the "limit"... all vehicles can be ridden to the limit.    Going 10mph faster around a corner on a sport bike than on a cruiser is no more challenging.   Limit is the limit.

The trick is to have fun and not look like a monkey fornicating a football while you are doing it.
