Jackal I don't give a **** what floats your boat, nor what you think should mine.
You have your thing, and I have mine, and everyone else theirs -  everyone's happy.

Or are they? I am and Gixer seems to be, yet you and others are irritated anyone else could disagree.
It's when you make definite rules in the wet medium that is taste that it turns to BS.

If anything, I think it's you that's round trying for a square fit; whether you've been doing it long enough to've persuaded yourself of it or not.

staga.. this is interesting... you have the platic bodies on the bikes because it is cold there and they bring up enough heat to keep you warm in sub zero temps... that is fine with me... good reason.  I have froze myu butt off on bikes in 30 degree weather.  It was not comfortable... I envied the people going by me in cars with heaters.

but... how would that explain the U.S. expoeriance with our pretenders?   (yes gixer I used pretender again because it strikes a nerve)...

It must be dnates inferno for us when it is 100 degrees plus in the shade and you are in a smelly helmet and full leathers.   Maybe they can put air conditooning on em?  I just rode a kawi 900 that a friend is restoring... it is just as fast and drappy handlin as I remmeber it being.

puck... I am not sure what you meant by cruising to a place to go so fast... if you are doing it on streets why?  You could do better having a friend trailer a real race bike for you and ride a comfortable bike to the races.  I know people who do.

Again... pretenders... you aren't race bike riders on the streets and you are riding uncomfortable bikes that are no fun unless they are breaking the law...  You are doing it only for those few times that you can use the performance and the rest of the time you are just looking silly and being uncomfortable.

I guess I don't understand the whole idea of having something that is LESS capable than it looks.   This is completely backward to me as I have allways strived to make vehicles that looked realtively harmless and packed a big punch.   You are doing the oppossite... you are pretending to be a racer on a bike that is less capable than what it looks like and you are dressing like you are a race bike competitor when you are not capable..

There are exceptions to the latter... gixer I am sure, is a true racer with the skills to back up the outfit but 99% are not in the same league yet... wear the pretender gear in all of it's neon glory...  They want people to think they are racers and that their bikes are race bikes.   I may use pretender a lot but... what fit's better?

And... I have pulled up to a group of these guys at the bar at the top of the hill...  I feel no kinship with them at all and they none with me..  I have experianced the ride and the country in a whole different manner than they have (I think that is what jackal means).. I have smelled and seen more than the white line blur and the inside of a tuna fish smelling full face helmet.

Why am I doing this?

Ok.. same for Hot Rods... when I pull up to a bunch of Hot rods and the old guys are around em polishing the candy pearl paint and billet whatevers.... I start to feel a kinship till I realize that they are not in THEIR Hot Rods... they bought em/had em built exactly like I see em... with automatic transmissions so they won't tire their leg to boot.   They don't know even what parts were used to build their car.

having two wheels don't make you my brother... having a hot rod doesn't either.

the hole brotherhood/prison girlies bondage thing is a snooze.
You might think riders as a whole share some sort of spiritual link, but the fact is that beyond riding, they might as well have nothing in common, they might as well be, say, cagers.

Brotherhood of riders is just an opportune thing that's facilitated into acceptance the same way nationalist vibes are almost guaranteed to ring true between stranded foreigners.. it's accessory.
Return home and the two previously accomplice people will have no reason not to cross over differences.

Lazs you mix argument with taste.
I look at any bike and see it for what it is, a bike with such and such performance and such and such comfort, etc.  If you think that such or such bit of plastic or "sleeper material" means anything else than what each person interprets from it, you're just fooling yourself.

moot... you are correct.. if you put nothing into it it becomes nothing but a machine.

Those who put into their hobby do tend to have things in common tho.

LMAO You guys really don`t read the thread do ya? You just jump in and start finger flinging because you spot one thing that hits your sensitive side I guess.
I stated basicaly the same thing you said in your first line. I`ll repeat it ...I`m tickled chitless. That clear enough? :D
Irratated? What do you presume to think I`m irratated about. I haven`t had this much fun since my mother-in-law blew away in the outhouse. :D
After all the holding of breath, kicking and screamin and the yelling of "AM TOO" in text form here, I don`t believe it us who are irratated, but the other way around.
If your happy out in the general public , riding a riing diinger with your *** sticking up in the air, adorned with dayglo and humped over looking like a monkey fekin a football, please continue on. Just don`t  claim  to be a biker . You are a motorcycle enthusiast, a Yup or a RUB on wheels.
Is there something that you find  wrong with "motorcycle enthusiasts"?

I totaly agree with you on this. With Riders or motorcycle enthusiasts, Yups on wheels or RUBs that`s just the way it is. With bikers it`s a whole different story. That`s the BIG difference.

Here we have a classic example of Hollyweird`s influence. I couldn`t begin to tell you how hilarious I find that statement. That class B stereotype is a little long in the tooth. Most folks try to think for themselves and form their own opinions. Too many movies and too much BS for you bud. It just , once again, proves my point. Some are posting here on a subject that they know absolutely nothing about.
What I find mildly amusing is, if that is your view or opinion of a biker, then why would you profess to be one when you are not? It just shows you have no idea what or who bikers are.

concisely:  there's never been any "am too" syntax in my brain before you brought it up, so where else than in yours could it have originated..

token ad hominem:
If you're happy out in the specific public , straddlin a flatulent thumper with your armchap-elbows reaching for the clouds, adorned with beard-jam and laid back looking like a sloth with an anvil case of hangover, please continue on. Just don`t claim to be a biker . You are a motorcycle enthusiast, a Yup or a RUB on wheels.

And to answer your question, I think the premise is bogus.
No more relevant than a 50IQ or preschooler finding pride in his clan, despite said clan being different only in name and fashion.

i never said I was a biker.  I saw a show your ride thread that turned out to be some bogus (desguised or not) testosterone match.

All I know is I liked driving fast, making nice, fast or slow or drifting curves around bends of the road, making long trips to nowhere for days at a time, the stir of the Gs and the great landscapes, and once I tried a bike, it was just begging to replace the cage I'd used for road trips till then.

Social status among other two-wheel riders? You might be motorcycling's Plato, wtf would I care about either.
I just want to eat miles, track or trail or road.

What's strange is I didn't point the prison bondage crack at you, yet you felt concerned.

Laz brings up a good point concerning the hot rodders. There are pretenders and wannabes, I guess,in everything.
Nothing more fake than someone getting something built then trying to fit in with Old Schoolers whether it be hot rods, scooters or whatever.
I think Old Schoolers is a common bond with a lot of folks that others don`t understand and will never understand. Thus their frustration as not being accepted and they just can`t figure out what the difference is . It gets sorta funny at times, completely sad at times.
Old School has nothing to do with being young or old also. It is a thought process and a way of doing things that brings pride of self accomplishment for one thing.
Mann seemed to have a firm grasp on the subject in his work.He was, after all, Old School to the bone. He will be missed. His combining of Old School scooters and Old School hot rods results in some awesone results that make a big statement to you if you are of that kind.

Oh well; one Biker from the club near ours called and asked if I'd like to taste some singlemalt whiskies and cognacs with them tonight and continue evening at the clubs and later at the City...
I think we have plenty of interesting things to discuss at the sauna; thanks to Jackal :D
