anyone using 77.77 and playing AH?

i updated to 77.77 a fwe weeks ago, and today i tried to play AH and it didnt work. I just wondering if thats the only reason?

i lock up like this:



both offline and online, no matter what map. I changed settings from 1024, to 512 and 256, no fix.....

also, as you may notice from the first picture, the clipboard backing spins around in circles like a prop on the main screen......

found the issue already....

A64's X2 driver adds /usepmtimer to the boot.ini, i had removed it before due to some issues, but i had re-tested it last week and everything was fine. However i hadnt tested AH since i had only 256mb ram due to a failure/RMA i was going through.

/usepmtimer is something to do with SMP rigs and cool and quiet i think and obviously AH doesnt like it!

now i gota get my aim back......not that i had aim anyway.....lol

is the file name "boot.ini"  I have the same problem but could not find the file in either win2003 or xp64.

Look in msconfig.  There should be a tab for the boot.ini file.  You can edit it there.

its hidden by default, you have to turn on view system files. its in the root directory of your OS

ie C:\ or D:\ etc

I'm not clear, this is an nVidia, Windows, or AMD issue?

Since the last patch I've been having lockups. I have had the same hardware for nearly a year, nothing has changed, and before that AH was stable as a rock. Now, AH will hard lock and the areas of the screen where text goes (like the Info at the top) are solid blocks of whatever color the text was, sound and vox continues in a short loop, but everything else is stopped. I cant ALT-ESC, or even CNTL-ALT-DEL, its locked up solid.

1G PC3200
BFG 6800 OC 128M
Omega drivers (but have tried nVidia and it does it with them too)

looks like its just Nvidia and any AMD x2 processor from what I have heard.

i had wonderd that myself, i switched to a X2 with my ATI and it was fine, then i went to nvidia and it wasnt working, so i blamed Nvidia, however its the CPU setting in boot.ini that caused the issue....wierd!

i think the title needs changing slightly then, because i was blaming 77.77 drivers.

maybe "Problems using Nvidia with  A64 CPU driver installed?"

Basically if you dont install the A64 driver you dont get the problem, however Cool and quiet might not work....However not that many gamers will be using that.

If however you have already installed the A64 driver, find the boot.ini file on your C:\ drive (boot) and remove /usepmtimer.

Example:

Change to:

but the game doesnt crash (hardlock) right? thats at least one problem solved

I'm seeing pretty much the same thing you are.  The screen turns a shade darker and the clipboard spins.  Often I can ctrl-alt-del out of it but sometimes the machines locks up entirely and I have to hardboot.

I dont know about your problem, if you havnt ever had that /usepmtimer thingy...so it seems it isnt just down to this switch?

Whats your system again?


the thing that annoys me is if, whenever something happend like this with ATI, VPU recover would reboot the gfx card and i wouldnt need a reset... however if it goes wrong with nvidia you have to turn off! I mean sometimes just pressing the reset button doesnt work because it wont post after this sort of crash...wierd
