Yep, you are right, blows my mind, how the hell can you just make up a number? Weird. I have read that they are cracking down on it, big time, I guess it's just a matter of wanting to find them

You'll have to ask the IRS what they do with SSNs that don't quite match up.

Yeah, just posted, they seem, in the past, to not want to find them. But here most work for cash, the ones hanging on the corners anyway.

"The employer is under NO obligation to verify the authenticity of these documents."

Well, it's time to become obligated

kind of funny that none of them ever get audited, or maybe they never file for a return and the IRS keeps the money:noid

Bravo dear Watson

Im suprised of your lack of knowlage.
IRS is colecting milions every year from fake SSN numbers, thats "free"money.
Since they are not payd by employe but employer money are flooding to non existing accounts.
After every year or two, IRS is sending polite letter about non matching SSN and ask for correct data.
They dont care  where from money come.

As for fake ID's. DL's and SSN thry can only work for this purpose. If you will try to use them to start bank account , buy weapon, take loan, buy insurance or do anything whats smell as a fraud. You will have your friendly neigborhood swat team knocking at your doors within 48 hours.

Obligation? It's a felony to hire them.

I think they'd be obliged to themselves.

That's not their job. We pay law enforcement to worry about such things.

No, it's a felony to knowingly hire an illegal alien. Slightly different situation.

So I guess it's not the contactor's obligation to know building codes, we have town inspectors for that.

No one asks a day laborer for paper work or ID. They are typically paid in cash are they not?

All U.S. employers are responsible for completion and retention of Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens. On the form, the employer must verify the employment eligibility and identity documents presented by the employee and record the document information on the Form I-9. Acceptable documents are listed on the back of the form, and detailed below under "Special Instructions."

How many employers of illegals do you think are complying with this provision?
