you are missing the point angus and curval.. even in your "almost a countries" I could easily get a handgun.  you may not but I could.

I would not tho since... I am not a criminal and have no criminal need for one in your country.  I would not try because the penalties are so high.

If you could grant me immunity from prosecution and pay my way over I would be glad to prove it to you.. I would be glad to turn over said handgun if you paid the expense I incurred getting it.

There are plenty of handguns in your country to be had.   You must at least admit that?  in other countries with strict handgun laws that are not quite so isolated as yours..   there are even more... they are fairly swimming in them.

worst case scenario... if I needed a handgun I could make it.   I could turn your perfectly legal shotguns and rifles into handguns.

No, there are not "plenty" here.  I'm sure there are some...but I ASSSURE you that plenty is not the case.  The risk is too great....even for the hard core crimminals.  If there were "plenty" it would stand to reason that they would be used...right?  What is the point of being a crimminal, with crimminal intensions, and being armed...but not using the gun during crimes?

You must be talking to Angus re shotguns/rifles.  They are illegal here also.

curval... not really.. even taken into account the uniqueness of your almost a country... you are a tiny little tourist island... like a larger version of say... disneyland but..

here is how it works... If the penalties are high then the crooks won't take the risk unless they have to.

They don't have to.. in countries where the citizens are unarmed... all they have to do is have the strength to overpower... and why not?   nothing the helpless citizen can do except cower and shiver...

If they plan on going against cops or armed confrontation or the reward for efficiency is high... they will take the risk and use a firearm.

The fact that the citizens are helpless and crooks don't need guns to terrorize them is not doing your arguement about there being good gun laws much of a service.

The very best of both worlds is of course to simply let everyone be armed but to use the extreme penalties that you seem comfortable with only for crime/missuse of firearms.

Exactly the point. You are burdened with being a law abiding citizen. Criminals have no such restraints. The only thing that is being taken away by overly zealous hand gun laws are your right to  the means for protection from them......and a pretty good step in denying your rights period. The professional criminal could give a hoop and good GD for any laws, even if they print them on a wholesale basis. Punishment, if caught is a way of life. A given if caught and considered worth the risk. If I were going to be in a profession such as that , you can bet your granny`s honor I would be armed. What would be more of a consideration for me and a big draw back would be the possibility that those I was making my way of life from would be armed in order to stop me. I`d just start smuggling guns to Iceland instead. :)

Whatever works for me and my country works for me.  I don't expect you to understand...you can't.

Just please stop telling me what you could do here when you have absolutely no idea.  Unlike the UK...where one visit was enough to make you an expert on their laws and customs...you haven't been here.

I cannot offer you immunity from prosecution, but I'd be fascinated to watch you try and get a gun here.

Not true... DC residents can own a rifle or shot gun... just no hand guns.

Exactly.
And since there is no allowance for conceiled carry, the carrier is already a felon.
While a bigger, albeit bulkier, but then more VISIBLE THREAT is legal for keeping home.
Do you want the burgler to :
1. See you with a gun and get him too surrender on the spot while peeing his panths.
2. See no gun and try his luck in which case you draw and shoot him
3. Just die from your gun.
4. Carry a quick one and have you first.

All a matter of ...taste? :huh

And Jacka1:
"Hehe. I`d take that bet myself if I could win a trip to Iceland at the next reset."

Just buy yourself a trip. Leave the gun at home, since you won't need any. Come over, I will make you a good deal on B&B with internet, and you can fly AH all night with open doors.
Try the handgun sceme and you may have free B&B also, for a period you may not decide yourself though :D

I think that almost anyone will admit that the almost a countries of iceland and bermuda are pretty darn unique.   even so... if the profit was enough I would flood your country with guns..

angus says that he just shoots the darn burglars... curval would take away angus's guns..

we just shoot...or.. more likely point guns at muggers on the street and they go away.

angus would take our guns away... I believe our laws are unconstitutional and way too strict...

angus thinks ours are way too lax and his are just right.

curval thinks angus should have his guns taken away and put in prison if he tries to get more of the ones he has now.

criminals will always want the upper hand and always use whatever force they need to.

criminals love unarmed victims.  why do they even need a gun?  criminals are young and in good shape and enjoy hurting people or... at least have no bias against hurting people.

two or three could easily go into curvals house and torture and slaughter the whole family if they thought there was a profit and a way to get out of disneyland island.

angus would shoot em with a shotgun or long gun... very effective.. unless he was at a motel or on the road or in a bad section of town stopped at a stop light and then he would simply be a helpless victim... if not him... he may be able to fight back but... can his wife or parents or other infirm citizens that criminals love to prey on?

To say that you don't need a firearm against criminals or tyrants is the same as saying you have good motorist laws and you are licensed to drive so there is no chance you will ever be in a wreck.

You are kidding yourself... and you are kidding yourself over something that is very important.  anyone who have ever been the victim of or stopped a violent crime knows this..

I said nothing...absolutely NOTHING of the sort lazs.

I have repeatedly stated that gun control would never work in the US.  I don't have an opinion on whether it works or would work in Iceland.

It works well, so far, here.

That is it.  That is all I have to say and ever have had to say.

Please stop putting words in my mouth and making grand assumptions about somewhere you've never been and know nothing about.

Thanks.

HT or HTC???
Anyway, I'm not paying. And if you threaten me with a handgun, I will have your arse handed to you in AHII H2H for a day!

And Lazs....to get an opinion on your ranting text, if me or Curval want to buy a gun, we probably can.
Would I take your guns away if I was Prez? Probably not. They're already all over the place, those will never be taken jus so...So If I wanted less in the circulation, I'd maybe start with some barriers, say like not ANYONE, FEDERALLY, being able to get ANYTHING in a WHIFF....?
As for me shooting burglars, - well, I doubt I would, and they wouldn't have to break in anyway :D
But somebody toting a gun, walking up the stairs is in trouble. Avoidable if it's small enough to hide though...
Get the point?

And Curval, - works here too. And above is my speculation about the USA, silly as it may look. But I sure think that the one Western nation with both the highest serious crime rate as well as way highest guncrime (with guncrime subtracted, the rest is actually in the ballpark) should not be making fun of European states in which the gunlaw and the related crime go hand in hand.

angus... I most certainly do get the point... you want to be able to defend your home with a firearm.   You also think that it is fine so long as it is you doing it and your choice of firearms is the correct one but anyone else... well.. that will have to be determined.

You would not be happy with curvals gun laws just as I would not be happy with  yours.

curval would not want you to have one in his land.  he claims it is not needed there.  so why is it needed where you live?

why is one country more violent than another... why is one race more violent than another?

Who cares really... if you live in a country that is large and vibrant and has a large population of races that are more violent then you would be dumb to not want to defend yourself.

You would be wrong and racist to simply pass jim crow laws that forbade nothing but say white people from having guns..

I guess that we can say that overall... your gun laws work for you most of the time.

If there is a breakdown tho.. you are just screwed.. for instance... if you are at a motel and the door is kicked in or you are in an alley in a strange place that is dangeous... you are just screwed.   You need to admit that and admit that you don't mind the helpless being victims from time to time so long as it is not you or... not a large percent.

my concern is not for your safety so much as for the right of your fellow citizens to choose.   They may be a little more logical than you or have not quite as good a situation or.. are unable to ignore facts and odds.

I fully support your right to choose to be armed or not.  I do not support your idea that you have the right to tell others what is best for them.

If you think it is your right then you are the enemy.  There can be no compromise.   I think that those who would disarm me are every bit as evil as those who would vote to allow pedophiles the freedom to go about their activities.
