I got this game about a week ago. Just amazing, and i cant stop playing. Love everything in it.

THe only problem, is that im not sure what to do... Im not really sure what to do when i free roam. LIke i go into an abandoned town and then what?

I made a good guy, and i just followed the main story quest, which gets a little boring after awhile, atleast i got power armor from it though :P.

So what do u guys do when u free roam? Where should i explore and kill and take stump and call my home? Now im just a little...bored.

edit: how do u guys also get all the slaves and cool weapons and stuff? I cant find toejam but tin cans.... And is there anything to do in megaton other then blowing it up and the stupid book quest?

I got as far as the LittleLampLight Cavern in the main quest.

we made an evil character and pillaged megaton down to the last bottle cap. We came out of it with close to 10k and more ammo and supplies than we could carry. Its a good idea to make a base. We used Cantubury Commons up in the north east corner. When you get there some little punk speaks to you. Just go find Uncle Roe and kill him, and his gaurds. Take all their keys and then you own the big house with a safe, fridge, wardrobe and accross the street a garage with a workbench in it. The kid will stay as you cant kill him, crying about you killing his family or something. pffft.
Once we got setup we just free roamed killing people and leveling up and collecting vast sums of caps. Rivet city is the only place that likes us, so we trade there. Break into a file cabinet in stealth mode and store your trading gear and roving trader outfit in the corner of rivet city market, so you dont have to carry it around. We robbed and murdered all the traders and scavengers we found so far.
Most fun is just running into a battle between humans and mutants and killing them all. The best level 20 perk we found was the one that regenerates your vats ap if you make a kill using it. We dont have power armour but the Rielly's Rangers give you a few quests and then reward you with their battle armour, which is good enough for anyone and easy to repair if you have 100 rep skill.

LOL you guys have to try this if u havnt yet.

Make an new character, and make him a melee and unarmed. It sooio powerful. WIth 1 hit form a bat, i broke a guys arm, leg and knocked him out. 1 hit!

It just rapes everything if you go melee. Im looking for a sledgehammer now :P.

Try it if you havnt , its funny when the enemy goes flying.

On another note, did u guys know u can tip the cow in megaton. Go into sneak mode, go near the barhmin/cow and press e. You push it down.

After 85+ hours of gameplay, I kinda got burned out on it.

Now I'm on to Gears of War 2, I'll probably go back to Fallout 3 in a month or two.

Someone posted way back about 7 pages that they wanted a whistle for dogmeat.

Mod was put up that does exactly that on fallout nexus site.

With the geck released, and people really starting to learn how to run it. The mods are really screaming in. Some very interesting stuff is showing up.

Installed a copy on my PC.  I have to run with the lowest video settings possible.  Playing on VH and not seeing the mob of Super Mutant Brutes before they were just in front of me isn't the best.

But it's still worth it and totally awesome.  Need to spend some time looking around at the available mods.

Currently I'm running the following mods.

Xrepair weapons lets you fix your weapons with scrap metal and wrench's.  Truly a life saver.

Lawbringer Bountys (adds 1k in caps or more for bringing in proof that you have killed one of the top 20 bad guys in F3, List starts with Tenpenny and Burke and goes from there)

Regulator Hnew touches up the Regulator HQ a bit, adds lots of handy items.
Better Regulator Duster is another good one. Now you can wear the duster and still have armor.
(yes I like playing Regulator "good" characters)

LJD Enclave Enabled brings the Enclave soldiers into the game right away rather than waiting till you reach the point on the main quest. Be prepared, they are tough, nasty, and there is a cell of them not far from V101.

T3T Weapon Tweaks and AutoAim Companion brings a few of the standard and unique guns up a notch in damage and accuracy. Be warned, the same is true for the bad guys. I really like what this mod does for the Lincoln, and Ol Painless rifles. As well as the Reservist and Victory sniper rifles.

TheHideout puts a sweet garage with bed, storage, radio just outside Megaton.
Hidden below is a vault full of goodness, including a character that can repair to 100%, and 3 transporter tubes (Rivet City, HistoryM, and Little Lamplight) Its cool, its clean, has everything your wasteland wanderer needs.

Wasteland Revisted totally reworks the whole F3 economy. Stims are 1500 - 2k$ but are also more powerful. A single stim can take you from 20% health to 100%. Food weighs less, renames many items, almost turns F3 into a whole new experience.

ZableBlazes Companion Mod lets you turn any NPC you can have dialog with into a companion. Including companion equipment share, orders, etc.

These are just a few of the many I've tested. And these seem to work well with each other. Solid, stable, etc. Best mod single stop shop I've found is

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/categories.php

Take the time to sign up for a free account. Will let you download larger files, etc.
They do a great job there, can't praise them enough.

I especially appreciate their "Latest Files" quick to browse, and keeps me up to date on whats new.

I still have not really found a sniper mod that completely suits me.

ShykeMiscPack comes close with his 50 cal semi auto. Not as easy to hit with, but rapid fire and large clip make it easier to survive in hostile enviorment with max difficulty.

Snipers Bliss is worth looking at, but is a bit light on damage IMO.
Too many supermutants get back up and attack after a good head shot.
