Ok, StSanta ...

Before things continue to deteriorate further let me just make one thing clear:

I want an official Red Rider carbine action 200 shot range model air rifle.

I respectfully dissagree. The O-Club is for off topic stuff. Like when the dood wants to disuss his sex-life as a Patriot (minute man)

But seriously, the death of AW ain't off topic here, it could be the best break, a very worthy group ever got.....

SWulfe became a non-combatant when =GB= singled out his basic flaw (and choked me to death), and he only gave his sheep a *minute* of his attention. He is what's called "pacified" in combat terms.

AKA, He also came around and got the clues delivered and it's been noted.  :)

For the record, Id've never left had I been able to maintain conx for more than 10 minutes.  After 4 months of trying, I gave up. In a sad sorta way, I'm real happy lots of AW's are otw here.  EA has been permanently removed from my shopping list.

This is funny.

Amusing, this   :)

Oh,btw: this is an O'CLUB thread. We have a thing called the O'Club - make use of it   :)

StSanta
It's not anywhere near being the misunderstanding of "humor".  It's the condescending attitude and outright hostile reaction to the fact "they" are or were "Air Warrior's" combined with the suddenly common insult to Air Warrior in general.  A more appropriate (and gentle) response could have been "Hey take a pill, I was kidding"...or something to that effect.

Sure, the initial reaction to the post that started this whole thing was harsh, and undeserved, but who was in the know?  Besides that, why did the reaction have to be insulting to the game and community of Air Warrior?  IMHO, the answer lies with certain folks harboring resentment because they view the influx as an invasion of what they consider "thier" territory (which is a faulty assumption at best).

There is(was)(will be) bound to be some locking of horns with such a large and sudden merge of two similar but differen't communities.  Maybe if a few folks on both sides of the fence (that no longer exists)would attempt a slightly more civil attitude things might be nicer around here.

I propose that we all now join hands and sing Kumbeyah  :D

Call me cynical, but the sentiment in this thread is a little bit hysterical, to the point of outright absurdity.

AW was a shrecking game.

AH is a shrecking game.

I'm sorry to sound harsh, but the 'death' of some software hardly warrants the wailing and gnashing of teeth currently exhibited in this thread. Those that are out of work because of the 'demise' of AW have my sympathy, like anyone else made unemployed. But I'm sure they'll sell their obvious talents to someone else.

I like to put things in perspective. Is this really such a big thing in your lives as to warrant such an outcry?

Staga's post was funny. If he had done the same to the eulogy of a person who had died in the WTC disaster, that would have warranted the kind of posts aimed at Staga.

Get a grip!  :)

Hi all; been off for a while and came back to find this AH v AW brouhaha. Tempest in a teapot, IMO.

First of all, welcome to the new AH players. I flew AW back in the $6/hr Genie days with Pain Squad for several years. Great game (bad Visa bill!). I think you'll like this one as well.

Second, Funked and Santa are correct. This is a thread that belongs in the O-Club. Not trying to be the BBS police or anything but since it is a UBB board a bit of cooperation on thread placement in the forums helps guys with slow connects to "filter" a bit.

As far as the flamefeasting... well, whatever blows your skirt up.

Cya up there.

You condescend to newbies.  That's what they're there for.
I'm sorry, the latest wave of "AW refugees" might be good sticks, great squadron flyers and the rest from day one, but they are newbies here.  And some of the diehards are going to have the hardest time -- for they spent years building up the respect and admiration of the community only to see it all dissolve and be forced to rebuild from nothing.  Some will adapt quickly and become treasured members of the AH community.  Some will try their hand at it, but never be able to get past their first love.  Some will live under the delusion that the AH community is the AW community.

Go back and look at what kicked this off.  Read Staga's little comment and this guy Gypsy "Airing the Orchid" Baron's response.  Read all of his responses.  (For fun, pornolize the first one -- I guarantee the result is revealing)
He comes across as a condescending, prepotent ass.  So much so that, especially coming from someone unknown to most of the community (and, sorry, HT is not the guardian of this community any more than BB was), you have to assume it's a joke.  Did you AW guys have to put up with this dude?

As for BB and history: well, yes, most of us know the stories of the origins of WB, AH and the rest.  Some of us were even there.  But until recently, we've all had a chance to be a part of the AW community, and instead we chose AH.  And to be quite honest, I think the flight simulation world would be a much better place if we didn't uncritically accept every opinion of BB on MMP environments as the gospel truth.

So to recap:
A. We're sorry about your loss.
B. The "refugees" are now AH pilots, not AW ones, and that means more than a name change -- it means an entirely different culture and community to adjust to.  And that, more than any chunk of code or knowledge of flight, makes them newbies.
C. History is a good thing.  But it's different from Theology.

Don't be offended if AH players honor AW as Zeus did Chronos.

Without AW ... and those people who supported it, worked on it, worked for it, and played it in the Dark Days of GEnie .. there would be no WB or AH. Nor a bunch of other games that the AW experience inspired.

You don't need to personally know Adolf Galland to respect what he did. You don't need to personally know BB or GE to respect what they contributed to this gaming genre.

It's a shame AW is gone, but it was inevitable. All things considered.
