Taking my “Bush Cheney 04” signs going to stop me!
« on: October 26, 2004, 12:53:19 PM »
Ok, so all I get to hear about these days on the radio and such is the number of Kerry/Edwards signs that have been disappearing around the city.  I found that kind of childish and started paying closer attention to the signs in the neighborhood.

I saw that, in my neighborhood at least, this wasn’t happening.  Until my Bush/Cheney sign suddenly disappeared.  I took a drive around and did a mental note on the sign locations.  Yup, all the Kerry ones still in place; however, there was another missing Bush sign.  Then a day or so later, another, then another, slowly it appears that someone is going through the area and pulling out the Bush signs.  When talking to the lady at the Republican Election Headquarters for Jackson County they had no additional yard signs as it seems a lot of them are being taken.

This is so ignorant as to think that taking a sign will help get your candidate elected.  This inspired me to come up with a solution.

I have 5 poster signs, a few for backup, ready for construction.  I’m placing double edged razor blades at key points where someone would grab the sign.  I have them well placed and somewhat “hidden”.  Paying close attention and you’ll see them with no problems.  Doing a drive by and yanking it in the middle of the night though; well, that might cause a bit of skin to break open.

Nothing like a few stitches and a good scar to help remind someone of their stupidity in the future!

Oh and for those of you going to post about the liability, I’ll work that out when the handsomehunk who tried to take it in the first place tries to explain the situation and how their fingers came to be close enough to get shredded.

So, he gets charged with theft, and you get charged with assault.  That sounds like a good trade-off.

That's a great idea.  You should tell Rip so he can tell his friend who is on the board of directors for something or other.  That'll stop those damn sign stealers.

I doubt that there will be any theft, chances are the sign will still be there, possibly a little bloddy, but there.  As for the assault charge, I don’t think so:

From nolo.com

assault

A crime that occurs when one person tries to physically harm another in a way that makes the person under attack feel immediately threatened. Actual physical contact is not necessary; threatening gestures that would alarm any reasonable person can constitute an assault. Compare battery.
See Topic: Criminal Law

I’m not attacking anyone nor is there an immediate threat; I’m only placing razors on an object inside my property line that happens to be owned by, me.

Why do people put those signs up in their yards anyway?

I know, because they might forget who the fuxx they support. Retards.

Your intent is to cause harm to another citizen when there is no threat of harm to yourself.  Assault may be the wrong charge, but to think you're within the bounds of the law is just foolish.  You'll just have to hope that either the idiot doesn't return to mess with your sign, or if he does, he doesn't make a fuss.

A booby trap may be defined as any concealed or camouflaged device designed to cause bodily injury when triggered by any action of a person making contact with the device. This term includes guns, ammunition, or explosive devices attached to trip wires or other triggering mechanisms, sharpened stakes, nails, spikes, electrical devices, lines or wires with hooks attached, and devices for the production of toxic fumes or gases.

If a person sets up such a trap to protect his/her property, he/she will be liable for any injury or death even to an unwanted intruder such as a burglar. It is illegal to set a booby trap on one's own property to prevent intruders.

wow
I have a Bush sign -  a fancy plastic one I purchased off the internet

I would let the loser steal it before I caused him intentional harm

I would think your solution would cause more problems ... too many nutbags in the world, stealing yard signs already indicates the guy ain't playing with a full deck

Heh, its not just Bush/Kerry signs, here they've had people doing it in the local mayors race.  Everything from stealing them to painting them and even buring them.  I think it's hilarious.

Protecting your property, that's cool.

It would be easy to avoid getting maimed.  Don't steal private property.

Yeah but you Kerry supporters would have to run to another state(even though the other state helped steal the signs) to see if they would post a letter saying how wrong it was to steal the sign and if that didn't work they would threaten to send another letter and KEEP sending letters till the person stopped stealing the signs or the election was over.

Then they would claim that even though they lost all those signs AND the election it was still better to go to another state for help instead of taking action on their own.
