Ahh yes, I remember opening that box and just about drooling over the manual that was enclosed, I just couldn't believe that I had in my hands an actual flight simulator for my computer, it was almost beyond imagination. I spent many hours looking at that line grid LOL.

Damn, I didn't even get a mention, and I was even quoted in that damn manual

Its nice to see a buncha name I recognize this many years later. No, I aint flying...but thinking seriously of getting back into it here on AH. I just don't know if I can take being a new dweeb all over again

I think Soulz transitioned well. I had an awful time with the transition. AH and AW are very different. Plan for the worst (a year of dieing a lot) and hope for the best. After a year and a half I'm fianally at a point of killing more than dieing. But shooting is a lot harder here. How I long for hit bubbles!

Oh and ease into it - stop by the TA and DA.

This is no bull, This game is much harder than AW. But its also more fun. jump in

Hey, Shaky Stick!  Another AW old timer sniffing around, perhaps to join the ranks of the old timers who are already here.

Don't worry about the transition.  All your old skills will carry over except aiming is a lot harder without hit bubbles.  You'll be rusty, of course, with so much time not flying -- that would be the same if you were going back into AW after a long time off.

It's hard to look at the graphics now and imagine how you ever thought they impressed you so much, but that's not even the biggest difference.  Lag and warps are worlds apart.  What was considered good then would be considered completely unplayable now.

No doubt. Ten years ago, we had a couple of sims for online play and it was strictly 1v1. When the 2v2 stuff came on, it was difficult, but manageable and we were overjoyed.

Then, we couldn't dream of an arena with 500+ players, voice comms, and the kind of eye candy we take for granted today.

Bah... what am I sayin'...

We want MORE.

Howdy Shaky.

I'm not really an "old timer" as I didnt come along in AW until the SVGA box set, the first version I played was SVGA 1.13f (or was it 1.13g?). I was quoted in the second manual they did, I think it was for ver 1.5? It was the version where we got the bigger maps, I'm pretty sure it was 1.5 or something like that. They took quotes from posts on the GEnie BBS for the manual and I got one in there talking about the F4U, which was my favorite plane. Anybody remember that manual or have a copy? I'd like to see what I said, its been so long now I forgot. :)

I still have my original SVGA Box set floppies and manual.
