Does this bring back memories???????
« Reply #75 on: July 14, 2005, 11:56:32 AM »
Speaking of being old, I remember the days where if you wanted online you dialed up a bbs and chatted that way. Had many a fun night talking on there.

BTW, anyone have an old dos version of procomm plus?

Yeah, actually I came around in the GEnie days a few months before they dropped the proce from $12/hr to $6/hr, I think. That was when the boxed set first came out, IIRC.

And it figures, the quote they had on me was on the dweebcat, a plane I rarely flew. I think I picked it up a bit to take out HardRock after he kept bragging how good he was in it .

So I guess the question here is, should I drop a couple of hundred to start flying here again...I need new sticks. The FLCS Pro I won at the '96 con still works fine, but there's no compatible rudder or throttle for the damn thing, and its awkward as hell for flying...too big and hard to reach the hats. I miss my FCS Pro with the super stiff springs. :(

I was quoted in the second manual they did, I think it was for ver 1.5? It was the version where we got the bigger maps, I'm pretty sure it was 1.5 or something like that. They took quotes from posts on the GEnie BBS for the manual and I got one in there talking about the F4U, which was my favorite plane. Anybody remember that manual or have a copy? I'd like to see what I said, its been so long now I forgot. :)

I still have my original SVGA Box set floppies and manual.
Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Awesome.  This was the first game I was ever obsessed with.  I used to dream those purple octagonal instruments.

Ah yes, the glory days of flight sims.  Glad to see so many still in touch! I started flight sims with some M-soft simulator, thinking back now it was similar to "pong" in the way of graphics. I was so impressed with AW on AOHell at $1.99 an hour, my first 3 months AOHell bills were all over $300 per month. Addictive personality? Me??? Nah....

Then off to GS I went for unlimited play at a paultry $10.00 a month. Small fish in the big pond, swam around gaining size and strength until "EA Games" purchased our home and evicted everyone. I still haven't purchased an EA game since that day, I never will either. Yes, I am also bitter and vengeful.

By then, AH had been in business about 3 years (estimate), again I am  a small fish, but back then the pond was not too big,  and much fun was had.  I grew, and the pond grew even more. It finally became the ocean that is available today. Too poluted for me to swim in these days, but I did have my fun!

to all!

Wuzup Doc?

Good to see your still flyin high;)

Not much chance I'll be posting any flamboyant posts as flamboyance requires passion, and lets face it, that ship has sailed.

I hear talk of a new ship though, I hear its supposed to arrive in "2weeks". (HA!! I kill me!)

First, you could go without pedals and stay with what you've got.  That's a lot better and more fun than not playing at all.  You can do OK without pedals (better with them, but OK without).  Second, you could buy USB pedals, and they should work with whatever else you've got -- shouldn't matter what it is as it is  a separate device.  Third, you don't even need hats or throttles (as long as you at least have a throttle wheel on the joystick).

Anyone remember us using the 262's as scouts for BoGII? I think that pissed a few people off :)

You bet!  The 262's made us very edgy.  They were so fast that a P-51 pilot could look around, not see anything, start typing a radio report, and get shot down by a 262 before he was heads up and checking his 6 again.  I was one of the P-51 pilots getting all edgy about that after it happened to some of our guys.  Later in the scenario, we had the satisfaction of at least occasionally boxing some of the 262's in when we overran your fields.

I've still got gun-camera footage of Battle of Germany 2, which I plan to put onto my scenario page with other scenarios I've flown in.

A few years later, in the Target Germany scenario, I got to fly 262's.  A very nice ride if you are careful.
