Dogfights: The Greatest Air Battles

I only caught it from the dogfight of Col. Tom and "Duke" Cunningham/"Willie" Driscol.  I've read the Cunninghams exerpt that's in Shaw's book, our "Bible", and I'm very happy to say that it matched up pretty good.

I"ll have to check the show out from the beginning.  As for all the politicalness of this...I'm an old Air Warrior and it doesn't matter who a pilot is or where he's from.  I respect all pilots that put their lives on the line, using only their skills to do battle in skies.

That's what's AH should be all about...being a unique group of individuals that have an affinity for historic aircraft, combat skills, and the pilots that participated, regardless of their political affiliations.

So enjoy that program for what it is...and learn from it:)  There were lots of good pointers presented too.

That show sucked.

It matters little to me how "insulted" the Ami lynch mob feigns to be.

It didn't show the 'Greatest Air Battles' of any nation. It just showed those that are 'popular' or well 'known'. There are 1000 other 'great dogfights' I can think of that not only include Ami pilots but others as well from many different eras.

The show wasn't entertaining, or informative or particularly well 'animated'. I have seen better just searching the net.

It gets a big fat .

The Vietnam era dogfight of Col. "Duke" Cunningham/ "Willie" Driscol. certainly qualified as a "Great Dogfight" the problem with that show is they throw in stuff like the last Mig-17 Duke and Willie downed  "could have been the famed Colonel Toon". No such guy existed and any bit research in preparing for that a show would have shown that.

Its was a poorly put together program.

i thought it was great..god forbid americans salute their countrymen in this day and age. I lived in europe for 3 years and I have never seen as many patriotic flag wearing people as i did in the netherlands..they have an image of us as Jerry Springer lovin rednecks...Europeans look down their nose at us as we cheer for our country while they are more nationalistic than anyone. Dont worry though we will be there..AGAIN... when you need us.

..by the way wasnt america founded by europeans? hmmm..

No not really. America was founded by people who couldnt stand having bad teeth.

It was the American's who kicked the hell out of them and sent the others back to their rock.

You have to understand that America has a habit of making out they do everything on their own, and they are the best at everything.  To non Americans this can be very annoying as it basically degrades their contribution to whatever is being covered.

We get a lot of American history programmes/films here and they always seem to only look at everything from an American perspective, which is why the younger generations of Americans tend to believe that they won WWII on their own.  THIS is why non Americans get aggrivated by things such as this.

Now, dont jump on my back, i am just trying to help you see from others' perspective, it didn't bother me at all as i have come to accept it.

The Longest Day. seemed to have quite a few Brits in it.
Bridge over the river Quie (sp?)

Few orthers  Im thinking of off the top of my head but I cant remember the names of now.

But most movies I have seen usually have at the very least a token Brit or aussie in em.

but what do you expect? These are American movies made for an american audiance.

I havent seen to many brit movies showing Americans.
One could easily think the same thing about Brit movies.
