Nash, your reaction to the joke mirrors the reaction of the "liberal" in the joke.

Think about it.  Life immitating art or...?

It's just a joke, man.

P.S.  Good thing lawyers have a sense of humor.  Right?

Can't really say I agree with your follow ons to this point, but, at least from a CT'ers perspective, it sure does seem like many Republicans fit this bill.  Specifically the fearing of gays, science and God.  I just don't understand why someone would be fanatically anti-gay marriage or aghast at the prospect of their kids learning evolutionary science without there being some thought in the back of their head that they were ticking off a higher power.

Of course, it's not like there aren't Dems who also take that stance.  And Republicans, like me, who don't.

Your presumption that Republicans fear everything is the largest pile of Bravo Sierra found anywhere in this thread. Except possibly you. Fear and dislike are two entirely different things. Just as fear and knowing something is wrong are two different things. Far be it from your pompous bellybutton to grasp that small tidbit of knowledge. Have a nice day.

And you just made the very point you were trying to argue against.

While you cant paint everyone from either party with a broad brush.
Just from my own observations
There would be a hell of alot more Liberals not willing to fight then conservatives for many of the same reasons mentioned in the joke.

I've only heard Democrats say "fighting is never the answer"
1 example is on a job I  was working at and the ladies son came home from school all dirtied up and bruised. When told the reason was some kid was picking on him and he got into a fight this mother said " You never fight. You should have just turned around and walked away. Fighting is never the answer"
Which is probably the worst advise anyone could ever give a kid and I told her so. She didnt agree telling me "We teach our kids not to fight in this family." To which I said. there is a difference between fighting for the sake of fighting, and fighting to defend yourself. And by insisting he never fight at all. Knowing the neighborhood he was in was the same as telling him to be everyones punching bag"

Now I wouldnt have known her party affiliation had she not had this big "Vote Democrat" sign in her front yard.

I've seen this same  type scenareo played out time and again.
More times then not by a large margin  it is party line the card carrying Democrat who was unwilling to fight.

to liberals...  dislike or disgust is "fear" or "hate"...  it is newspeak taken right out of orwell or dr phill... who knows?

In my short life I have not met a liberal that I could respect or trust.   they are either buffoons or dishonest or both... not worth getting to know.

Ones that I have seen start out all smiles and calm and reasonable and then get all agitated and spittle flying when you point out that you don't agree..... if you don't agree long enough you will get them to dredge up some lie that has either been spoon fed to the dummies or that they personaly made up.

I would tend to agree When apllied to those left of center
But I would also say The same I have seen true with those right of center as well.

Its the diehards of both parties that are that way.

But I will say it is the democrats who seem to get offended the easiest.
At least lately.

on the other hand, right wing conservatives seem to have a pretty good handle on how/if/when your born, and how/if/when yer allowed to die.

And the stuff in the middle they can't seem to get right, either.

Conservatives.. Liberals.. the extremists all suck.

Its a  J. O. K. E.    a cartoon, a caricature ... at the expense of democrats this time.

There are many jokes at the expense of other groups, as well, and all of them are based on BS.

If you can't laugh, maybe you could get up to the great north woods...  rest and get some perspective...  then when you get back to the city maybe little things like this won't bother you.

My own theory is that the superhyper-sensitive reactions to small things that don't warrant them - and which we see more and more from liberals these days - is part of a culture of victimology that has infected the left, probably due to a sick sense of powerlessness.  My theory will also explain spin-outs like Cynthia McKinney...

It's a dumb joke that has no basis in reality.  Faced with a life and death situation, party affiliation has no bearing and animal instinct takes over.  Any man, dem, rep, socialist, communist, fascist, peasant, cast member, whatever, would fight to the death to save his family.

It's human nature to put down others to make your self, and what ever group you feel a part of, feel superior and justified in your thinking and actions.  It's been going on for millennia.  Every group does it.  The unfortunate result is that generalizations and stereotyping occur and in the minds eye, perception becomes reality for the poor sap who's fallen for the propaganda.

If you find a joke about confused, weed smoking hippies disturbing, then go read some jokes about mullet wearing, dixie flag waving rednecks until you feel better.  You can't take these things too seriously because they will always be with us.

If you look at the big picture, we have bigger things to worry about and we shouldn’t waste too much energy on stupid jokes, no matter what party they make fun of.
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.
