Boomerang, with smoke bombs to mark ground targets for the heavies.

or

Beaufighter VIC, used everywhere, though the Aussie Mark 21 would be better since they changed out the 303s with 50 cals.

Polikarpov I-16

Pic @ http://www.orgsites.com/ca/cafsocalphoto/01.jpg

From the site http://www.warbirdsoverwanaka.co.nz/article_2006.asp?id=aircraft

In the Soviet Union, the I-16 was one of the most famous and loved aeroplanes. First flown in December 1933, it was the first fighter in the world to go into service combining cantilever monoplane wings with retractable landing gear. Blooded in the Spanish Civil War, the I-16 also saw service with the Chinese as well as becoming the mainstay of the Russian Air Force. Operated by them against the Japanese and in the Winter War against Finland, by 1941 the I-16 was still the most numerous Russian fighter. The German attack on Russia was to be the swan song for this nimble aircraft and many were destroyed on the ground. A total of 7,005 singleseat and 1,639 two-seaters were produced.Six wrecks were restored in Russia for Sir Tim Wallis and are the only flying examples in the world.

I'm changing my answer to the MK33 mosquito.  It's a navy fighter/bomber.  It had JATO rockets for CV launches and could carry a torpedo or posibly the 4000lb bomb.  Not sure if it had the large 4000lb bomb bay though.  No wait just 2 x 1000lb on the wings or 2 x 500 lb inside with 2 x 500 outside.  The 4000lb versions where only with the unarmed bomber versions.  That would still be cool though.  A bomer version with a single 4000lb would rock.  Fast, high alt, big boom.  Perhaps a small perk?

I flew the D520 in WW2OL for a long time.  It's not that great.  It's slower then the 109e-4, wider turning circle.  It does have a fantastic roll rate and the center mounted hispano 20mm is great though.  It also has lackluster pilot view.  Cool plane but it would rot in the hanger coming out for the ocasional event.

Although the more drag counteracts the more powerful engine, I'd like to see a ki-100
