I've never intentionally shot a chute, only accidentally; If my aim is way off  while I'm shooting at the pilot suspended from the chute, for example.

I wondered when you "Bastards" were going to weigh in on the subject.

If getting shot in your chute rankles your feathers, just wait till you experience the other stuff that goes on in the game.

I think this has been addressed a million times in the past, but this silly notion of "honor" and "fair play" is just that... silly.  It's war...it's a war GAME...emphasis on game.

This is not real life.

The other guy is out to kill you...period.  Puff your chest out and pretend some silly sense of "honor" and "chivalry" or some such and he'll kill you all the quicker.

Besides, if I see a chute, I'll shoot it...I'm being curteous and saving you the long wait while you float down......

I bail constantly and replane. If I upped with the wrong amount of gas, I'll bail. If my squaddies are upping from elsewhere, I'll bail and replane. If my engine goes out not in gliding distance of a runway, I'll bail and replane. If my tail is shot off and that airframe is done with, I'll bail & replane. I play to fly, not waste alot of time landing/falling out of the sky :)

I rarely open a chute. .ef gets you back to the tower and back on the runway alot faster. I never get strafed either lol. I do hit the ground on occasion though.

I think it's important to point out that, whatever IL-2 may say, real parachutes do not deflate and become useless when shot with a single bullet.  It takes many bullet holes to make any sort of difference on rate of descent, and it's still not going to be a fatal fall.

As for the subject of parachute shooting, I have two things to say.  First, it was a necessary evil of war practiced by all sides, and secondly, learn to HALO like I do.  Even if players don't shoot you, the flak does.  In fact, the flak's so unrealistically accurate that it usually hits me when I'm still in free far, before I open my 'chute.

Speaking of a HALO, HT can we control our pilots during the free fall? ;)

ever since My plane's prop was ruined by flying thru a chute, I started shooting them down, besides, chute rhymes with shoot, you figure it out
no dishonor in vulching, no attacking force in their right mind would purposely let the enemy off the ground. in real life or in game.... lighten up and enjoy yourself.

Zorsterer, chute shooting didn't become comon until after the Battle of Britian when the english pilots kept getting their tulips handed to them, then the Germans responded in kind, I would like to know of a russian pilot that witnessed one of their chutes shot down, doubt you'll find one, and Rarely during all of WW1  was it done

I usually only shoot at the chutes if I have 37mm or better... I like to make their death as quick and painless as possible :D

He is right.  This behavior is unacceptable.  The right way to do it is to get them with your prop.  Its a little messy but it requires more skillzzzz :O

I only used the whole quote for the HALO reference, just wondering if HT could model a "air foil" for our pilots before we open the chute, would make bailing near a friendly base fun.  If you have enough alt you can "fly" all the way to the base.  Could be fun, would be funny to watch folks try it out for the first few weeks ;)
