Wrong, Dogg. The first choice is "I don't care, forfeit my vote"... and I wish most of the kids had hit it... :p

You're right, but in one sense it did replace a level bomber.  After the B-26 Marauder was retired, the A-26 soldiered on...and when the US designation system was reworked, the A-26 was redesignated the B-26.

So, the Invader replaced the Marauder...leaving the folks at Martin (and a bunch of retired Marauder pilots) rather peeved about "their" B-26 losing out.

The development of the A-26B and C (begun in the early 1940's) was meant to replace 3 planes in particular: the A-20 Havoc, the B-26 Marauder, and the B-25 Mitchell, which were all early war (late 1930's) designs.

It was also initially designed to offer a 75mm cannon in the B-version as an option, but banks of .50's using API rounds proved to be better at strafing and anti-shipping operations after the first 30 block 5's were delivered with the 75mm mount.

There was also the A-26A version, a night fighter/bomber destroyer with .50's and 2-4 X 37mm cannons (2 in the nose, 2 in bomb-bay gun pod), and on-board radar, but German heavy bomber threat subsided by the time of final selection, and the P-61 Black Widow won the contract to be built instead of the A-26A.

why is everyone voting for the a26? b25 can carrier a bigger payload and has better protection then the a26. I like the a26 but, it would get chewed up just like the a20 now. the only good thing about it is its bigger, faster and a better payload then the a20. The a26 would be good for short bombing runs. all im saying is that the a26 would be a good plane but not yet, the b25 would be used more and it can take more punishment.

I'm glad that we're down to the last three finalists, The Flamebait Soapopera Pursefights in the initial campaign threads at the start of the vote were getting hard on the eyes.

B-25B--284 mph-----5,207 lbs bombs

B-25H--274 mph-----3,004 lbs bombs

A-26B--353 mph-----4,004 lbs bombs:D

after the A-26 drops its ord, its still ready for an agressive ground assault.

A-26?    I like it!!!!!,

A 26  should be perked but p47N wasnt, ta 152 was de perked, actually any plane entering in jan 1945(or laTER) should be perked,  b25 was common in 1943.   I revel in the A26 of air warrior, but in AW, a b17 was a damn fine dog fiter.  So if it is modeled right, and not be capable of formation flights, it would be a capable cv killer if used in coordinated efforts.  I WILL NOT mention the huge HO factor of 18 50 caliber MGS all forward, if the pilot locks the 2 remote control turrets forward.  We shall see what the voting bring, but in all reality, the p39 and or b25 would be a more historical addition to the AH repretoire.  BUT  NO CV TAKE OFFS AND NO BEN AFFLEC.   GIANLUPO:rofl ;) :O :furious
