I think what generates so many posts/whines/etc. is there is no responsive feedback at all from HiTech most of the time, on even the bigger problems as perceived by the customers.

Does HiTech ever respond to major bug/performance/game issues?

From one of the numerous other complaints on the new terrain threads, in response to the same complaints about the new setup.

No, I've seen it done elsewhere.  It's like watching a starving pack of dogs tear into a dropped package of veal - pretty soon everybody is p***ed off and nothing gets done because the developer is stuck in a mire of dealing with all the little baby birdies that each need mama birdie to smooth their feathers individually.

Personally, I agree with many of the comments regarding the shortcomings of the CURRENT iteration of the new terrain, but am happy that HTC is taking it slow with respect to adding details to the terrain. With 527,216 different combinations of hardware and software in use on players computers, you never really know what's going to happen to performance with a major change, and if it's a little stark because they are erring on the side of caution then Hip, hip, hurrah for HTC.

Even worse than "it's a little dark and WAAAY too bland" would be "WTF!! I now stutter down to 3 FPS/lag into the ground/ CTD when I get near  (?????)  !!!!" for those unfortunate enough to have the "wrong" combination of hardware and software.  I only recently dropped another online WWII sim because of performance issues like those mentioned, I sure as h*** don't want the see them here, no matter how much "better" the terrain might look with lots of "junk" scattered about.

HTC will take care of us - from what I can see, they've done a top notch job of it for more than a few years.

Some folks just need a little bit of what my 3 year old needs...

I love it. I've had none of the problems the OP had. In fact it's made my life easier all around.

The only thing annoying as that some of the fields don't match thier icon anymore. So you'll line up your landing aproach only to find out your coming in on the wrong heading and there's no run way so you have to go around again.

Other than that it's great! :aok  Big thumbs up !:aok

I hate to say it, but while new terrain looks great from tank it looks terrible from alt. Too dark, too plain, too many black dots (individual trees), too often repetitive tiles.

And again, it damn too dark. New noon looks like old sunset if not ever more dark.

Skies looks great though.

I spent some time in a GV tonight and the new terrain is really cool for GV's.

I like the return of many things from AHI including tank bunkers at the GV bases, beaches (although I think they are over-done... they don't need to be everywhere), LC barriers on the beaches, better bridges, etc.

I like a lot of the new things like the berm/ditch effect at the edges of the roads plus the dirt roads themselves.

I'm warming up to the hedge rows but I think they're over-done too.  They really don't need to extend much beyond the fields.

The new trees are nice (I haven't had a chance to see what the forests are like yet though) but I miss being able to hide in the old trees and in the old trees I really liked looking up and seeing all the leaves while hiding.  I do like seeing the barren trees though.

Outside of the GV aspect I really like the new water and the cloud effects/haze and the white hills in the distance are nice while flying over it.  I'd like to see the return of the old storm fronts from AHI though.

I also like the return of the moon and stars from AHI plus the partial night treatment is a nice comprimise to actual night.

I'd like to see more rock-faced cliffs (especially a few dropping into the sea) and snow covered peaks.

The only real problem seems to be the lifeless green felt that covers most of the arena as seen from any altitude and the loss of depth perception due to the sameness of the color/lack of shadow.  Also, the patchwork effect as seen from the air in RL is missing (although seeing it on the sides of mountains in the last version wasn't very realistic either).

While my first impression was negative I'm warming up to the new terrain but I think it still needs a little work.

Looking forward to the final tweaks.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

HTC, if you're reading this, You fellas definately did the right thing. The old terrain was a little on the cheesy side. especially the 2-D trees. I'd like to ask, will it be possible to incorporate multiple terrain tiles on the same map? So that, say, from the beach, to about a sector inland, would be lush and green, then maybe change into something like a hvy forest or jungle tile, and maybe at the center of a map, possibly a plain, or even desert?

Just wondering, you guys were able to produce this new one, on our old maps...

Overall its a step in the right direction as far as the terrain goes.

landscape is a bit arcade looking as it lacks details  (could use moe roads, rivers, small twns trees.... that type of thing.

The shoreline and water look great as does the airfield.

I also agree its way to dark during the mid day hrs.
I also agree it lack depth perception

Its on the right track....just needs some tweaking right now

The smoke from burning hangers now looks terrible

LOVE the new update
« Reply #70 on: April 14, 2007, 08:26:21 AM »
I absolutely LOVE the new update! Maybe its my system and flatpanel
monitor - but for me my depth perception has vastly improved. My FR
is better. And I love the segration of the farmland/forest/fields/villages/etc.

Looks a hellava more realistic! Roads, headgerows, windmills, and sheep
oh my. And what about the beach? Wow!! That was obvioulsly needed.

Water looks REAL now. Not like how YOU think it should look. Grass is
green. Water is blue. No. In your video game fantasy-land sure. For me
anyhow, this SIM looks more like the (most) REAL footage of WWII around
Europe.

I would like though, since we're  wishing, to see more varity of vegatation,
grass, and trees. The new trees look awesome. But from the same 'mold'.
Too dark? Maybe. I feel the lighting looks like its overcast the whole time.
Thats all. No big deal. I would LOVE to see random weather with this new
'overcast' look, dark and dreary rainy days, AND bright & sunny ones.

Thanks HTC. This is worth so much more than $14.95.
Now can you finish ALL the cockpit graphics damn it??!

Was messing around in Baltic --

and while several maps are sterile, the baltic has HEDGEROWS!

And fences, and other neat GV war objects. I think that when the tiling jobs are caught up, this will be an absolutely fabulous graphic update.
