But that was LEGAL immigration.  I have no problem with that.

My problem is the illegals.  Don't play the race card.  I don't care if they are from Mexico, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Germany, Italy, Kuwait, or Mongolia.  I don't care if they are white, black, hispanic, asian, or little green men from Uranus.  Illegal is illegal.

I can fix the problem in less than 3 months.

1)  Build wall (Berlin style) at Southern Border.   Shoot-to-kill.  After the first few are shot and hanging on barbed wire, the rest might not be quite so eager to try to cross.

2)  Check every criminal's legal status in the country.  If they don't belone here, let's not keep them in jail, let's get their butts outta here and let them be someone else's problem.

3)  Check every employer's files for worker status.  Kick out illegal worker, fine th living daylights out of business owner.

4)  Check legal status of everyone who applies for any type of government ID or aid.

5)  Use those nice sobriety checkpoints the local police like to setup and check legal status there too.

After stopping the flow in, shouldn't take too long to get rid of the ones already here.

What I dont understand is why the government doesnt jail the individuals that hire illegals... and heavily fine (or close down) bussinesss that hire illegals.

Its not a matter of 'big X corporation is hiring illegals' or 'X person hired illegals because his employer told him to'... nuh-uh. The law must apply to both the individual and the company.

If an employer tells an employee to hire illegals when emploee knows it IS illegal, then that employee is going against the law and should be jailed along with the boss that told him to hire the illegal as well as a very heavy fine being levied against that company (for they are responsible as well).

Too many companies happily pay the light fines for hiring illegals with the claim that 'oh we didnt know this bad employee of ours was hiring illegals' excuse.

Start giving a 2 year jail sentence and a 1 million dollar fine PER hired illegal to any bussiness caught with illegals on their payroll and i'll betcha the treasury will swell.

Who I'm trying to understand in all this stuff in the nation at large on the issue are those who will want you thrown in jail for robbing a store which is an illegel action all in itself and those same individuals sayng its ok for an "illeagel" to be here illegaly. Both are crimes that are against the law. Why do they think one is ok and the other isnt?

I'm all for questioning an individual about their citizenship and the shipping out of those who dont belong here regardless where they are from. I'm all for folks comming here legaly to make a better life. I dont like line cutters and the ones who are here legaly cut in line of somebody trying to do the right thing to better their life. All the illegals need to be shipped out to make room for the honest ones trying to do the right thing and come into the U.S. legaly.

Hell I'mm all for even given them a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich that is heavy on the peanut butter, no milk though, while they are waiting to be shipped home and shown where the end of the line is at so they can wait their turn like everyone else.

Sounds like you are presesnting that as some sort of evidence, like it means something. Like it's because they are illegals from Mexico. Like it's because of they're ethnicity.... you sound prejudiced and you don't even know it.

If you are against it no matter what their ethnicity is, then you are on my side about it. They are fugitives because they are *******s, nothing else. I wonder how some of you would feel and how loud you'd scream if say these people were English. When you say comments like the above it makes me wonder.

Yeah, I guess that's what they are called in your country. In Mexico they have two national holidays in their honor, and children make school plays about the valiant stand of the Batallón de San Patricio. If only the protestant Americans hadn't committed atrocities against the Mexican Catholics ... I mean, is there a better way to get an Irishman to fight you? I think you got who betrayed who backwards.

Being of Mexican descent, I am quite familiar with Los San Patricios and the holidays for them in Mexico.  It still does not take away from the fact that the majority of those that served in this unit were deserters from the US Army and changed sides in the middle of a war to fight against the United States.

John Riley, who created and led Los San Patricios, deserted from the US Army and crossed the border to Matamoros and pledged his support for Mexico and offered his and his fellow traitors services to the Mexican army to create an artillery battalion.  This took place before the United States declared war on Mexico.  So, please tell me, what atrocities did Riley witness in his brief service in the US Army that forced him to defect?  Or for that matter the rest of his battalion since most of them defected at the same time?  I'm not denying there were atrocities committed in the name of religion as those that did take place are well documented and were done by both Catholics and Protestants.

The majority of the Irish Catholics (there were also a sizable number of German Catholics) that deserted to join Los San Patricios, based on evidence of Riley's letters and those of his senior officers, were from a the shared religion of the Irish and the Mexicans, sympathy for the Mexican cause and the promise of 300 acres after the war.

During the Vietnam War, the North Vietnamese tried to get the black soldier to desert their posts or refuse to fight by playing the race card.  There was a major propoganda effort trying to persuade them to desert and refuse to fight by asking them why fight for a country that oppresses you back at home?  Why die for a country that doesn't think of you as a citizen?  The North Vietnamese used the same propoganda the Mexicans used in trying to get Catholics in the US Army to desert and switch sides.

Here is an excerpt of a letter written by General Santa Anna.
Quote

Can you fight by the side of those who put fire to your temples in Boston and Philadelphia? Did you witness such dreadful crimes and sacrileges without making a solemn vow to our Lord? If you are Catholic, the same as we, if you follow the doctrines of Our Savior, why are you murdering your brethren? Why are you antagonistic to those who defend their country and your own God?

While in your country, you may look up to those that willingly desert from your armed forces during time of war to fight for the other side but I guess on this side of the pond we call them what they really are...Traitors.  Los San Patricios got what they deserved when they were finally captured.

Ledpig,

I'm hispanic by origin. I also happen to realize from living within 65 miles of the border for 50 years the impact of illegals entering primarily from Mexico on both my community and my state. I don't give a rats bellybutton what country the illegal is from, what color their skin is or what church if any they attend. I do care that they are either unable, or more likely unwilling, to enter legally and become a citizen of this country.

If they are not willing to put aside their old country for their new home, they are in the wrong country and need to go back home. The US is not the globes charity point and we are not all the globes Salvation Army for any person to simply start to enjoy without becoming a citizen.

My brother, who learned English when he went to school feels the same way. There is a great difference in those who came seeking work 20 and 40 years ago and a great number of those who are coming now. The ones who came before wanted to work to better themselves. Many now just want to better themselves by taking what others worked for.

geeze mav... you are as bad as my girlfriend (of mexican decent) who hates the illegals.

I think she hates them more for being lazy criminals and making the real Americans of hispanic decent look bad tho than anything else.

I think she also resents the fact that her parents worked hard to be legal and learn the language and the customs of this country and become good citizens while these people whine about a country that is giving them handouts and at the same time...

display the flag of a country that is so bad that they had to flee it.

Laz,

I don't knock some of the hard working "wets" that come to work. My Uncle used to hire a couple to work his ranch. It seemed there were several whites that didn't want to work for an American of hispanic decent. The wets he had working for him did a days work for a fair wage the whites didn't want to take. They also worked as hard and as long as my Uncle did.

What we are seeing in the last 15 to 20 years are not hard working folks, they are the dregs of a society in a lot of cases. We don't need them or want them in this country.

I am prejudiced against illegal aliens!

It's the illegals that are trying to pull the race card. I have alot of friends of mexican descent, all either here legally or American citizens. Not all illegals are mexican. All illegal aliens are ILLEGAL though and should have no rights here at all.

I thought the FBI most wanted would be of interest to some... they just happen to be all mexican through no fault of my own. They worked hard to get on there.

mav.. as you may have guessed... I have no problem with hispanics... people like everyone else.   I spend a lot of time around em and to be truthful.. I like a lot of the values.

The ones who are wets.. are mostly the poorest and lowest skilled.  I would like to see a work program started with work visas.. like the old brassero program.

minimum wage standards and no one comes who does not work... no kids.   visa good for 6 months.

I watched these guys (and some women) work at unskilled labor and live together and save every penny they could to send home... it worked well.

We don't need to have children here who are a drain on the system and do not speak the language..

Much as I like them as people.. it is still unfair that they become citizens or are able to break the law when other peoples can't..  I know a few russians and poles and canadians and brits who want to become citizens.   they can't for the most part without a lot of work.. they all speak english and they all have skills that make them not dependent on social services.. they don't have anchor babies.

Why should they lose their place in line to someone who hates this country and flys the flag of a nation he is fleeing?  one who won't bother to speak the language and who has no marketable skill that will support a family?

That is really what it boils down to... fairness.  fairness to all, including the taxpayer.
