Sticks
« on: February 19, 2009, 07:20:37 PM »
Hi there,
I have been using the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro for about 3 months now. After constantly re-configuring it (about 4-5 times a session) and constantly messing with the settings trying to get it to work properly, it still seems to have a mind of it`s own, giving me nothing but grief, I can not fly with it, without it suddenly deciding it wont turn or pull up, or dropping out of Auto with out notice, so on and so on. So I have decided to render this stick a worthless piece of toejam!
I am looking to buy a descent stick, now that I have decided to commit myself to AH again after some years away. What I am asking is, that if you guys can point me in the right direction with info on some decent sticks, the one`s you are using maybe, rating's and prices.

Kind Regards  KUsh :frown:

CH is the best, but a full set up...stick, throttle, and pedals will run you $300 US CH dosen't make a twisty stick so you need the pedals, but you can hold off on the throttle for a bit if money is tight.

Saitek is kinda "hit or miss" some people run them with no problems, and other have lots of trouble getting them to stay calibrated.

Logiteck is called by those who know better "logicrap" You now know better  :)

There's some buck involved for sure. If you have a throttle you can save some money or if you have another set of ruddrs.

I have an X52 for 2 years now and it's still going strong. Cost me 100$ at the time and I'm pretty sure you can pick them up cheaper now.

If you can afford CH, buy it. If not, I like my Saitek X-52 Pro on one computer...

Hi Kush,

did you get my email response to your application?

CH is the best.

Combat stick/ pedals/  throttle will probably cost around £300  but you wont have to replace it for a long time if ever.

dont get x52 nastiness, some of my guys have been having a catalogue of problems with it.  Diggin SNAPPED his one in frustration.

Me Again,  Cant afford £300 for a stick, that's about $500 for all the CH separate packages. But I have been looking at this stick:-

CH COMBATSTICK 568
* 3 axes and 18 buttons
-x,y, & z axes for aileron, elevator and throttle control
-6 tradional push buttons
-1 four direction hat switch
-1 eight direction Pov Hat switch
*Total of 128 programmable functions with control manager software icluded
*Dual rotaty trim wheels for precise adjustment of ailerons and elevators
*Side throttle wheel
*Large sturdy base, with 7ft USB cable.

This retails at $109 and is within my price range. Any thoughts.

Thats a good stick, but like I said earlier, CH sticks have no twisty control for rudders. So your either stuck using the keyboard controls for rudder, or you add another 100 for the rudder pedals.

I have the combat stick and it is great  :aok

as fugitive says it has no rudder so you will need pedals, you don't have to get the ch pedals I hear the saitek ones are much more adjustable and more than likely cheaper.

I have been using  an x52 for over a year, along with saitek rudder pedals. I have yet to have an issue other than the connection cable from the throttle to the joystick is easy to bump out of place if you are not careful. lots of buttons to map most of your primary flight controls and views even without installing the included mapping software.(300 possible buttons with the software installed)

I had a ch rudder pedal setup first and had to use them barefoot as the pedals are on the small side. (I have size 11 shoes)
I felt uncomfortable barefoot so I got rid of them and went to Saitek. I haven't had a CH joystick so I can't really compare them.

here is a picture of my setup without the full cover installed

Flying since tour 84
