For anyone who's been to college....there is a thing called social stratification...it, basically, describes the natural phenomenon in societies that there are always "classes" of people. Those who throw around the word "Elitism" generally are trying to put down others for achieving more than, or being better at something, than they are. It's a result of the "green monster". It's also used against those who hold a moral or ethical high ground. It's used against those who oppose HOing, picking or other things in life that while they are not illegal, they are ABSOLUTELY unethical. They are unfortunately usually more successful in life, because they don't live by normally accepted ethics. Their usual response in AH is "well, it happened in real life", or "quit whining". In real life one hears, "I didn't do anything illegal". They are incorrigible, they have little or no conscience and judge the right or wrong of their actions by the outcome for THEM. If you're called an "ELITIST' in this game, BE PROUD of it. It probably means you're doing something right!

Elitisim in this game is more a need to project an image of being elite to those they consider to be not elite. this means who you hang with and your attitude, its all a load of balls, like talking a good fight and the communitys perception of them, on the bbs and in game. Quite a few of the elite could not fight their way out of a wet paper bag!! :-)

Some of what I regard as elite over the years are no namers I met in the ta or mw by no namers I mean not someone who is generally known by having a crowd of flunkys posting 24 7 on the bbs :-)  they dont need or want a group of grown men talking about how good they are they already know that...lol

So what are you saying Perv I am the best in the game on every level?

I love you Perv :)

There's lots of "elitists" in Aces High; just very few good sticks.

My words of wisdom for the day.  :D

I treat my enemy with contempt until they earn my respect.

I am accused of being self righteous, and they are perfectly correct. I got a lot of trouble in school for disrespecting authority, yet was a "golden boy" at my JROTC unit.

Why? The teachers treated us with contempt and assumed superiority. While my Commanding Officer at JROTC was a veteran of Vietnam and a Cadet Commander of 25 years.

My respect is Earned not Assumed.

That is the attitude I take with people in game. They have to show they are "worthy" of my respect.

Lame elitist generalization.

The criticism of elitism is not the same as a criticism of merit.  Reverse snobbery aside, what most peasants like me mean by elitism is an antidemocratic ism where membership in an elite class confers benefits and advantages that are denied to the rest.  Examples would include Communist Party members in China, Plutocrats in Russia, Cool Kids in High School.  I would argue that elites in this context will always believe that their status is right and justified.  Whether the argument is that they earned their position or that it comes down through the generations from heaven, I believe it is always nothing more than a convenient rationalization for retaining power regardless of fairness or even the long term best interests of the class members.

This is meant to be political but I suppose somebody might take it that way.  Apologies. At least I didn't mention Hitl....damn.

But really, how can you respect anybody playing a cartoon air combat game?  And paying 15 dollars a month to do so?
