My point was that there are a great many people who do not know what they are voting for only that "their parents voted that way so they are too", or find some other stigmatic label and apply it to a specific party when in fact it certainly is not true in the least bit.

After a mild political debate with an older co-worker, I was informed that (fill in the blank) party is for him because, "I've carried a lunch pail my whole life".  He went on to tell me that same party is for the poor, as well.  This at the end of a conversation where some detailed topics were brought up and discussed, to which the person in question blankly looked ahead, nodding every few minutes while adding nothing.

I do not care what political party you align yourself with.  But please, for the love of God, have an understanding of WHY you believe that party/candidate to be the right choice.

We are hardwired emotionaly to be a member of a human group and feel secure hearing what we want to hear from the membership. Once you belong, you will rationalise almost anything to maintain the comfort of your feelings and world view opposed to the pain and identity crisis incured in challenging ones own reality. This is why electorates are so hard on incombants who are felt to have dissipointed them but, like Robo Lemmings to those who keep them happy. Part of the reason McCain lost in 08 was all of the conservitive evangelistic electorate were dissipointed by Bush and enMass refused to vote because they saw McCain as Bush's 3rd term.

Right or wrong partisanship is a survival strategy evolved from being a member of a hunting band, tirbe, village, religion etc.

Our political affiliation and views are intertwined with our emotional need to belong. Not our rational choice to learn from past mistakes.

While people have a desire to belong, I have also experienced that over the years, we (USA) have a tendency to personalize politics (mainly out of 'fear') making such discussions impossible (if rational conversation is the goal).  Both parties have done a great job at manipulating peoples fear triggers to a point where topics can't be divorced from the messenger. I have experienced that in some cultures, talking politics is a normal conversation topic and not taboo, but when it is, people are able to distance the topic from the individual. Most of us tardlings can't even talk about a video game without personalizing it.

He said 'most people' - he couldn't have been referring to you, Oldman.   You are a rare combination of congeniality, intelligence, and skill.    You are not most people, I assure you.

Then stop being an American't and work on becoming a citizen.

We'll take you gun shopping to celebrate once you're bonified.

Well.. its over now.

The USA now has its leader, and, as a foreigner, I really shouldn't have an opinion on this. But honestly, I believe the choice the USA made was the right choice... quite an ironic use of language that. The RIGHT choice.. hehe.

Can we get back to flying cartoon planes now?
