I guess I wasn't posting here during that time because had I known that I'm sure we'd be fast friends by now.  

You BETTER get in touch next time.    I guess you stay on the boat, but if you'd be welcome to stay with us should you want some dry land under your feet.  Hopefully I'll have the boat  I gotta say, sourcing the right one isn't easy.  The WorldCats are really popular.  I was asked if I could settle for a 29' as a certain Mayor in your country who has a home here is likely selling his and upgrading to a larger boat.   Dunno, we'll see.  We will golf, we will eat we will drink and we will be merry.

I actually had a conversation with someone yesterday who pretty much backed up what RngFndr was saying about inboards though oddly enough, but he clarified and said inboard diesels are the way to go with any boat over 30'.  BUT, he is a diesel mechanic too, as is his son, and boating is his business as well.  He does charters, tours etc etc.  He also raised the cost of fuel issue.  He did admit though that it was easy for him to say because he services his own boats.  Here I'd be a total slave to only a few qualified people and could have massive delays on getting any work done.  One of them, for example, has the knickname "Hardly Working"...which is a play on his name and his work ethic.

I hate the smell of diesel though.  Hate it.  The moment I smell it my stomach churns and my body seems to have the memory of being seasick when deep seas fishing the few times I've been.  I'll be going out a maximum of 2 or 3 miles if we go fishing in the future though and if I get sick, it's my boat, in we go!    Seventy miles out is just unnecessary here.  We have some of the biggest "drop offs" in the world and deep water is not far at all.

Sounds like a deal  I have the eat, drink and be merry down pat.........but technically you will golf....while I will hit a little white ball around, and walk diagonally away from the spot said ball was supposed to go

He saw the pic of the 4 outies on the boat..
He said, "Now that is a glutton for punishment!"

About outboards, he just said,
"I love outboards,  just means more money for me!"

Right now he is in a California shop working on the
computer engine controls on a 4 x V8 offshore boat..

I am the trustee for my mechanic as already stated.  It is a discretionary trust.  While he may have influence over fixing my boat, I have a great deal of influence on his future wealth, or lack thereof.

So, I won't have some greedy mechanic drooling at the thought of all the money he'll make from me.  We'll have a nice cozy arrangement, with BOTH of us hanging on to each other's short and curlies.

Sounds like an Arrangement with a boat mechanic is the way to go..
I've had "Arrangements" with boat owners, but they were working boats..

One thing is Right tho.. Expensive toys, but if ya got the $$$$$$$
to throw down the hole, might as well enjoy it, before the bottom falls out..

Understood.  I took your initial comments to heart and if I didn't think your knowledge meant anything I would have never raised it again and would have stayed quiet about this man's agreeement with your thoughts....I appreciate any and all advice and if I am wrong or even partially wrong I will admit it.   

This is a bit of an odd situation though and all factors have to be taken into consideration.

I don't remember how many, probably about 50 or 60.  They did "round the island" tours on it but have since sold it on.  It was alot of fun though, the thing moved!!!  They'd put on some good tunes and we rocked all the way around.
