I rode motorcycles from about age 11 into my 20's, but almost all off road.  I would have loved to use a motorcycle for my normal street transportation, but I know a lot of street-bike folks, and all but about two have had some near-death experience on road, even ones who were very skilled at riding and at defensive driving (looking out for what the other guy might do wrong, etc.).  Fun, yes.  Safe, no.  There is a reason why riding them disqualifies you for some life-insurance plans and why emergency-room physicians call them "donor cycles."

I have been riding for over 40 years, about the same for driving.  I have more near death experience in my vehicle that I do on the bike.  Just saying..    :D

Yes, but statistics over 1000's of people is the better way to draw conclusions than taking one person as your data set.  Same for things like smoking.  While it's true that Aunt Gertrude smoked 10 packs a day for 70 years and lived to be 105, it isn't wise to conclude that smoking is the key to living a long life.  ;)

To add my two cents.  I put over 1,000,000 miles on motorcycles and never got a scratch.  Never put one down.

That said, I stopped riding the day I went over that 1,000,000 mile mark as I figure the odds were going against me.

A friend of mine went to the car show and saw one of these Elios there.  His first comment was, the passenger compartment is very, very claustrophobic.

I bet Gertrude had one heck of a good life, just like I am when riding.    :D

I'd like to see if they can really build it to do everything they claim and still retain the $6800 retail value. I just can't see how they are going to do it. For my daily commute to work and school the Elio would be perfect.

When I hit that mark, I wanted to see if the second 1,000,000 was as fun as the first.    :lol

It will be like your own little X-Wing fighter up front and I doubt many will want to ride in back, because of that.

Not really.  He is a bit of a runt.  About 5'4" tall, 120 pounds.

A portable DVD player might ease the mind back there.

It's about as roomy as a seat in a Cessna 152, and more roomy than a seat in a Bf 109.  Seems fine! :)

Danny,I have the same issue, vertically challenged!   However my idea would lower the bike, since it would only be ridden on the street I wouldnt need all that suspension travel.

I've seen similar bikes being built all over the world by custom builders. I thought if I could find a dual sport bike like say an XT500/600 honda or the like for cheap,it might be a good hobby for me to waiste time and money on..... :devil

Can play golf anymore so I have to find something to do!

    :salute

I had a friend who bought a natty old Dominator 650 to use whilst instructing. We went out one night for a ride, he was always a bit of a looney on a bike but I was riding a Triumph T595 and left him standing on the straights, every roundabout or junction we got to he seemed to easily out brake me.
I was getting frustrated and when we finally stopped I asked how he was able to fly past me on the brakes at every junction, considering the Trumpet had some of the best brakes around at the time.

He wasn't beating me on the brakes, his brakes weren't working, he was trying so hard to keep up that he was just letting it run on every time I was slowing down.

God only knows how many times he avoided an accident  :bhead

If I was in the market for an EV I'd take a long good look at the i3.

It's not much of a looker no... But it's a 1+ ton, 168 hp, 80 mile range on electric alone car for half the price of a Tesla.
