He's not kidding, he's just ignorant of the facts.  It's understandable, with all the Downton Abbey type stuff on TV these days it's not at all surprising that a Yank has never heard of a 1980s historical situational comedy and assumes it'll be the same.

  I have seen Black Adder on tv and I feel my description is just. Not a fan sorry. UK humour just don't get me, that Canadian and Aussie stuff tho is brilliant.
