In DCS human flown Mig-21s appear to be much easier to beat than AI. Gonna hafta try my hand at that.

I know I said it here before but Ima say it again. Team play against a reasonably competent AI constrained by our laws of physics is satisfying. When I played sports in school 50 years ago sportsmanship was ingrained and more important even than winning. Those days seem to be largely gone. Beating or being beaten by AI creates no drama. Read the General board to see some. My appetite for drama has waned.

They certainly used to have "unlimited quantum engergy".  ED has done a lot of work on AI in recent years and it's improved exponentially.  Still has issues.

So Animl derides DCS for having AAA level graphics.

And then admits that the inability to compete on graphics with current market competitors is one of the core reasons AH has failed to maintain market share and unable to acquire it.

I agree, BTW, it is one of the top 3 causes. 

So lets not pretend anymore that graphics are not important.  They are a potential customers first impression of you game before they've ever played it.  It is the "Curb Appeal" that is a necessary, but not sufficient factor in capturing market share.

I don't think the dwindling numbers has anything to with graphics, I mean look how popular minecraft is and that game as 16x16 textures!

Minecraft is intentionally bad.
It's part of it's aesthetic. 
Like Tiny Wings.

It's different when you are trying your best and and just not measuring up.

Have you tried to interest a friend in AH?  What was the reactions you got?

I invariably got two back to back reactions:

"Hmmm those graphics look kinda dated."
and
"Oh wait.  Subscription?  You have to pay subscription to play?" <stink face>

Less effect on existing players leaving.  But eventually it's just one more factor making competition look attractive.

The reviews on the Steam page pretty much echo that as a common reaction by those downloading the trial there too.



What's your theory?
