There seems to be more Palin bashing threads every day. There are a lot of comparisons between the Governor and Senator Obama.
Is Sarah Palin running for president?
From the day she was picked to be Senator McCain's running mate, there has been an almost jihaddist fervor to discredit Governor Palin in any way possible. It appears that Palin has strong appeal with the voting public (as evidenced by most polling data) and Senator Obama is no longer the star of the election. I think it's fair to say the democrats are afraid of her popularity eclipsing some of the "rock star" shine that Obama has. So the liberals in here are spewing vitriolic threads like they're on an assembly line. The party that preaches tolerance seems to have none for anyone with an opposing viewpoint. None of this is going to change anyone's mind. The debates will help undecided voters make up their minds. You should worry more about John McCain. All this crying over the opposing V.P. candidate makes you look silly.

It's politics. People, rightly or wrongly, get criticized. Get over it.

There in lies the problem. People with "Get over it" attitude.
People with this wonderous attitude are the reason this country is in such a state today.

If Osama bin Biden wasn't the catchphrase of the month, I might shed a tear.
Now if anyone starts bashing Barr... :furious
I don't know Bodhi, if Dems and Repubs keep arguing, they might not get anything done...which is better than anything they can collectively think of actually doing. :D

POLL!
Poll: Palin’s Favorable Rating Slips 10 Points in 3 Days (http://www.pensitoreview.com/2008/09/16/poll-palins-favorables-slip-by-10/)
Over the course of a single weekend, Palin went from being the most popular White House hopeful to the least.

this country is dealing with over 100 years of politicians like Palin, lie, steal, and bully, all for the sake of keeping power.
Palin lie- "hole me accountable"..."will not cooperate".
Palin steal- earmark queen, before she was against it.
Bully - firing librarian.

And not a sniper.
He and the righty versions of him have run off many of the intelligent posters here.

She was willing to cooperate before the subpoena. After the subpoena, she rightly chose not to cooperate. Kind of like play nice and I will too, don't... and well you get the picture.
She was far from the earmark queen. She supported a bridge that was 50% cheaper than it was in the end. She chose not to support it further. That shows good judgment.
She fired a librarian. Yep, real bully there.

Here's a Palin item that has been in the news. "The "Bridge to Nowhere".
McCain called it "Pork Barrel". Palin supported it, then when elected governor she was against it. I understand John McCain getting on the soap box and calling this pork barrel, he didn't know better(maybe he did?) Sarah Palin knew this was a good project when she initially supported it, but instead of fighting for the project she took the easy road and flipped-flopped.
In the Alaska much of the available land is set aside for national forest, environmental concerns, or uninhabitable. New land for development is rare in the south east and as such land prices are astronomical. With a population of over 7,000 people Ketchikan is a small town by continental US standards. However, in Alaska, Ketchikan is a major city and tourist stop. Trying to compare this bridge to some continental US pork barrel museum or a local monument is not even in the realm of reasonable. This was a needed state development project which would have supported the local community as well as Alaska's major industry; Tourism.

What this country is dealing with is the indoctrination of our youth into the liberal mindset. The liberals in this country are worse (more socialist) then Nazi Germany under Hitler more socialist then Japan of the same time more socialist then North Korea of the 50s and more socialist then North Vietnam in the 60s. Your messiah is a marxist and he will (if he makes it into office) destroy the America you know. Our schools have been infiltrated with liberals since the 60s and children of today are consumed with the liberal mindset because that is what they are exposed to throughout their days at school. 80-90 percent of the newspapers teachers and unions are socialist now.
Liberals are so successful with their scheme of indoctrination that their mantra of 'political correctness' has taken over all discourse in America.
And now I am considering that our dear SkyRock is consumed with that same indoctrination. Its alright though SR. The brainwashing can be reversed as soon as you grow up and realize you are the patsy of a political movement designed to destroy the enemy of mother Russia. :aok

infiltrated with intellect? I agree. Yeah. We're MUCH better of with the crap we have for teachers today, worried about "self esteem" and "multi-culturalism". So that those that DO manage to graduate have no useful skills, and under perform in math, English, science, and history. Graduates pretty much suck at real life tasks, but hey, they feel good about themselves, and they're tolerant.

Well, they work on two theories.
Theory A: Sling enough turds, and hope that eventually one of them sticks to something.
Theory B: If you cannot produce any results with theory B, then shout anything (or everything) long enough, loud enough, and often enough so that it drowns out the facts.
Ever since Sarah Palin was announced, both theories have been running wide open here. No surprise. The left has an empty suit, proclaiming "hope, and change" and "we are the ones we've been waiting for", while choosing a guy for VP who has been in D.C. damned near since time began. Just about as close to nothing as they've had in the last two elections, if not worse.

Multiculturalism is a great thing. I believe it's very valuable to learn about other cultures. School is so much more than the grades you get on a piece of paper. We learn to socialize with others in school. Problem solving is another aspect of life that school helps teach.
I agree that the public school system needs to be revamped. The teachers should be paid more and held more accountable for their student's performance. Also, I think we must realize that globalization applies to education too. I compare schooling in the US to the USA Olympic Basketball team. We (The United States) were a country that was on the top tier of education throughout the world. Our system of government played a huge role in the development of new inventions. We, for the most part, had some of the brightest minds in the world. Now, lets fast forward to present day. Everything that our government did to support our universities is now being done on a world wide level. You have Japan, India, China, and other countries leading the way in the academic world. The US is no longer the "top dog".

Sadly enough, just flipping around on a quick search, I found the scores below. With a daughter now in college, and a son almost to high school, I've been paying real close attention. I've even looked in on classes and followed the curriculum. It sucks, and the performance is dismal. I could go looking for more data if you really like, but it is terribly depressing. My brother's wife has been teaching for 25 years now. She is a top rated teacher, and she's very good. Unfortunately, teachers like her are the exception rather than the rule. Looking back over my education, and comparing the quality to that of my children, I can honestly say the percentage of teachers that just plain suck has tripled. And we had some bad ones. And the B.S. curriculum is even worse.

Unfortunately those numbers are heavily skewed due to the fact that in public schools have masses of kids that just don't care. It's impossible to teach someone who doesn't want to learn.
In fact, the fact that those numbers are as close as they are is kind of sad for private schools IMO.
Edit; the math part seems about right actually. Trying to convince someone with aspirations no higher than being a cashier at McDonald's and not getting hustled when they're buying their crack that they need to learn Trigonometry is an uphill battle at best.

As an aside, the truth is that a lot of parents suck these days as well, it's part of the decay of the family unit and the values associated with it. So it is not all the fault of the teachers. But the teacher's union is only making things worse. Further, education has gone down hill since the Federal clowns got involved. It's just another layer of bureaucracy that soaks up money and screws the pooch on a grander scale.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that vouchers would only result in lower test scores for private schools due to the types of people I mentioned above that they do not currently have to deal with.

You said since the 60's. I want to see how much the teaching has went down in the last 40 years.
Proficency is different depending on which state you are looking. Because of this, these scores are skewed. Find me the national average of act and sat test scores from, lets say, 1965 through 2005. It would be interesting to see how much teaching has declined! :aok

You think Private schoolkids "Care" anymore or less as peers their own age at Public schools? If you think they DO, think again.
-
It hasn't gotten better in the intervening thirty years. As I browse through my yellowed files of clippings and articles on education I find an item from 1978.
The Dallas (Texas) Independent School District introduced an innovative test for teachers. They were tested on "the power to think, the power to seize and express ideas, the power that is given to those who have learned how to use 'our two principal symbol systems, words and numbers.'" "Skill in words and numbers...does not alone make a good teacher, but the lack of it will almost surely make a bad one," says John Santillo, in charge of teacher hiring.
Brave words. But when the tests were implemented, tests such as the Wessman Personnel Classification Test of verbal analogy and elementary arithmetical computations, the teachers scored, on average, only slightly better than clerical workers. A rather low score was enough to pass. Yet half the teachers failed.
Then for a while we heard a lot about Piaget's studies of stages of intellectual development. Once educators realized how low teachers scored on such tests, the name 'Piaget' seemed to drop right out of the jargon of the ed-biz.
And then my files are stuffed with a dreary morass of newspaper clippings about college credit being offered for courses in frisbee, mountain biking, gourmet cooking, spiritualism, new-age philosophy, etc. etc. ad nauseum. And then came the clamor, still going on, to give equal time to so-called 'scientific creationism' if evolution is taught. Then there's pressure to ban books from the library that aren't 'politically correct.' Many schools have capitulated to such political and religious pressures, and to the clamor for a smorgasbord menu of courses. Have the schools lost all sense of their mission? Have educators no shame?
When I was in high school in the early 50s, our small-town rural school provided only academic instruction. It offered no sex education, no drug education, no aids education, no driver education. The only concession to non-academic areas was shop (for the boys), home economics (for the girls) and sports (for the entertainment of parents and community). But these non- academic intrusions were but a small fraction of the total. Our entire school (K through 12) was managed by just one person (the superintendent) who didn't even have a secretary and who also taught one course each term. And in every classroom, from kindergarten to the senior level, all the desks were bolted to the floor! Today some educators think you can't have true education unless the seats are mobile and can be pulled into a circle. Golly, our education must have really been inferior, with seats bolted down. How things have changed in fewer than 40 years!

Sez there, yer about as bright as a UPS shipping clerk.
Your why I want American families to have a choice. Your why I'd like to see Public Education as we know it in this country dismembered. Your why I'm glad there's a debate in american homes... we need poster boys for whats wrong, and with teachers like you on the ground as thick as dog turds on the curb in brooklyn we've got a much better chance of convincing folks that otherwise would think that if you have the job, you must be qualified for it. You are proof of that lie.
With all due respect, of course.
-
I said since the sixties? Where?
I said since the 60s and I was referring to the decade when the DoE came into being. The DoE obviously aided the down slide of American greatness. Now its this new world order of thinking where individualism is discouraged and group identities are nurtured. The once mighty America is now neutered from within.

A large percentage of fault should be laid on lack of parental involvement, I don't care what political affiliation
its sad to see how low the percentages are for private schools --1/2 are not efficient? Only dopes pay additional money for education to get those kinds of results... Interesting you say that. I have watched for thirty years as one Republican after another runs on a platform promising the elimination of the DoE and yet they do nothing. Now bear in mind I also think most Republicans are not in fact Conservatives but more Democrat in agenda. Liberals of course want to throw a TON of money at education. Money wont solve it. Money is the worst way to try to solve any problem. But thats all that has been tried. There are no ultra right wing Conservatives in education and there never will be. They would not be tolerated by any one in todays educational system where the libs feel they have a justified monopoly (they are destroying America through that agenda).'
And yes you missed that private schools are 150% more efficient than private.
-
But look at the public schools.....they are far worse.
lol Elfie...I can see that...and you can see that...but do you see my point?
Why did you jump in with that ...rofl..you can't help yourself can you?

LOL
you thumpers can't help yourself can you?
so because it is 150% more efficient..that is acceptable to you?
As your sales manager..I would be conducting interviews for the person I need who wants better efficiency ratings...not justifying low production with pointing at the other guys poor numbers, and watching you empty your desk...
Now explain again to me how the catholic nuns and lay teachers are flaming liberals...or was that the best you could come up with..
Quit kangaroo jumping in and laying down the ...oh you must see this because the liberals have or are doing this...jeez... the private schools are screwing the pooch too....or if that is acceptable to you...well...that's you...
But again..as you obviously didn't read ..or chose to ignore while frothing in panicky right wing fever....I lay a large percentage of fault on lack of parental involvement...again...regardl ess of political affiliation...
-
No its unacceptable and its all your fault. :D
The private school I went to had no nuns in it. Of course I know why you think thats the only form of private schooling available.
-
lol Elfie...I can see that...and you can see that...but do you see my point?

I see what you are saying as far as spending money for private schools when their proficiency scores are less than 50%. However, the alternative is even worse. My children have a better chance in a private school than they do in a public one. Is it worth the money? Well, that's up to each of us to decide for our own kids. :)
-
What's wrong with the Jo Bro's?
Why nothing...nothing at all.
Was it difficult clearing out enough of your New Kids On The Block CD's to make room for them?

Sez there, yer about as bright as a UPS shipping clerk.
Your why I want American families to have a choice. Your why I'd like to see Public Education as we know it in this country dismembered. Your why I'm glad there's a debate in american homes... we need poster boys for whats wrong, and with teachers like you on the ground as thick as dog turds on the curb in brooklyn we've got a much better chance of convincing folks that otherwise would think that if you have the job, you must be qualified for it. You are proof of that lie.
With all due respect, of course.
:rofl
I think you know where you can stuff that insult. :lol
I would like you to know, you are not required to send your children to public schools. You have a choice to send them to private schools, or home school them. If you do not like paying taxes to educate the rest of america's children, simply leave our country. :aok
By the way, I would love to see the education system if you put all UPS clerks in the classroom tomorrow. :rofl
-
No its unacceptable and its all your fault. :D
The private school I went to had no nuns in it. Of course I know why you think thats the only form of private schooling available.
No I don't think that is the only form of private schooling..I am quite aware that there are others...church an non church related...so the private school you attended ...the teaching staff...and board of ed...they were liberal flamers...or more than likely ..rather conservative...but again ..I will try to return it to the actual post and not respond only to the knee jerk reactions of some fairly narrow minded thinking...
Why is 50% proficiency acceptable?
and ... what types of private schools are bringing that efficiency rating down..because of the private schools in the area I live in..I would guess 60 to 75% of the high school graduates go on to further education..college.. trade school.. etc.. so that chart leaves me suspect to the accuracy.
-
Why is 50% proficiency acceptable?
I don't think it is acceptable, it's just better than the alternative. Kinda like the choice between Obama and McCain..... :devil
-

Elfie, the averages aren't representative of suburban and rural schools. You need to look at each individual school when you are deciding where to live, or where to send your children. The urban scores will bring down the national average every time. I was at a suburban school teaching science for 6 years, and we had scores around 85-90% and attained a level 5 rating(highest in the rating). With 30% black and hispanic(all due respect score lower statistically). We had an exceptional principal and a great staff and it worked the way public schools were meant to work. Alas, many like to blame the teachers for all the problems in education, but I know different. Where I work now, we deal with extremely poor children being raised in the "hood" and it is an uphill battle everyday. If I didn't completely enjoy my job, I'd most certainly go into something that paid more and had less headaches. :aok
-
I don't think it is acceptable, it's just better than the alternative. Kinda like the choice between Obama and McCain..... :devil
Don't disagree, but as I stated before -" so that chart leaves me suspect to the accuracy."--
And parental involvement is a major factor..I would gamble to say the deciding factor...
-

I agree that parental involvement is a major factor. To many parents just don't care enough to spend time with their kids and helping them learn. If the parents don't help to build a desire to learn in their children at an early age, those kids are going to have a tough time in school.
-
I am afraid our society has gone way beyond parental involvement in the majority of class situations (and I dont mean school).
I was referring to the nations best military boarding schools and academies which I believe perform much better and my question was to the efficacy of those systems compared to public schooling. I daresay I believe the performance figures would be 3:1 in favor of the military systems and thats with very little parental involvement (debunking your excuse for poor performance).

So in a military academy -you are trying to say- there is no authoritative figure guiding the students in a proper direction?
lol Get a grip... debunk my arse

twentyfoe.. I have no idea if you are trolling about this "jonas brothers" thing or not... I don't know much about any of that type of music and am not a big music guy in any case but..
If it is like your pretending to love the second amendment trolls.. anyone with any appreciation for music would be able to see right through your troll.. just as I seen right through your short lived and ill concieved second amendment trolls..
you just are not very clever or bright it would seem.
maybe when you get older but.. you show little promise... no real natural ability but then what do I know? I could never figure why people thought jon "make a funny face" stewart had an enduring talent.. I figured.. seen him once.. seen everything about him.
Then there is reality shows and contests... I got nothing when trying to figure out why they are popular.

:huh No I said the parents are not involved. See what that public education got you? No comprehension!
Interesting... where does it say I received a public education
I was taught never to bellybutton -u - me
I am fairly certain that is taught in a military academy...
If you went to one... did you pay attention or always jump to conclusions?
In a military academy - the parents have passed over the parental responsibilities to the school....teaching staff.. administrators..etc..
And those people take on that responsibility, and hopefully very seriously,
I am quite sure that if you didn't do your work, there is some form of punishment, loss of "perks".. maybe some extra work... and if not done, the consequences are loss of privileges... a parental role ..
Something that is highly lacking in public education, and a lot of private schools.

There is nothing silly about exposing truth about someone, when many swallow many half-truths about her as pure fact, in her own words. Exposing lies is a part helping people choose the right people.
I TOTALLY agree, Paline is not the one int he hot seat. McCain is. BUT I have had people tell me they are voting for McCain because of Pailine alone. Probably not the brightest people I ever ran into. Nor is voting for her out of spite, that's an injustice to the country to vote for anyone just because of party-line or out of spite. If she wasn't lying about herself she'd be golden, unfortunately she's lying about herself on MANY levels.
-
Palin's under a microscope while Obama's worshipers give him a free pass. Not very surprising to us non liberals.

I was taught never to bellybutton -u - me

:aok
Wow, when did the USA declare war on liberals?
And another, while you're accusing others of being "indoctrinated" into liberal thinking you really only look to have been "indoctrinated" by conservatives. You sir have no credibility with this type of argument. Simple logic.

The liberals have declared war on the American way of life. Increasing socialism, gun control, a million unborn babies murdered every year, these are hallmarks of the modern liberal movement. Yes, there is a war being waged.

Do you still own firearms or has the government come along to collect them?
Did your government order you or anyone you know to have an abortion?
Are you going to keep declaring war on anyone who thinks differently in the realm of politics? (this one here sounds way more unamerican than any of your accusations actually). So that said we must come to the conclusion that you sir are actually the most un-american here. Oh noes!
Perhaps instead of spitting meaningless rhetoric at each other we could try and tone down on the war declarations and discuss any political differences civilly? I'm sure it's what the founding fathers of our country would approve of.

I have seen nothing that has been said about Palin that doesn't make me like her more.. or.. at worst.. not make me like her less..
I have a feeling most real people feel the same...
On the other hand.. you have osamabinbiden.. I get the willies just thinking of the racist hate filled church he attended.. the people who were his mentors.. his bitter, amerihater wife... the terrorists and corrupt chicago politicians he surrounded himself with.. his inability to speak without a teleprompter.. he even travels with one now.
His hate and contempt for what most of us believe the second amendment means.
Nope.. I hate him for the content of his character.. not the color of his skin... (to paraphrase MLK)

Barack Obama's Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac Connection
Lehman Brothers collapse is traced back to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two big mortgage banks that got a federal bailout a few weeks ago.
Freddie and Fannie used huge lobbying budgets and political contributions to keep regulators off their backs.
A group called the Center for Responsive Politics keeps track of which politicians get Fannie and Freddie political contributions. The top three U.S. senators getting big Fannie and Freddie political bucks were Democrats and No. 2 is Sen. Barack Obama.
Now remember, he's only been in the Senate four years, but he still managed to grab the No. 2 spot ahead of John Kerry — decades in the Senate — and Chris Dodd, who is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.
Fannie and Freddie have been creations of the congressional Democrats and the Clinton White House, designed to make mortgages available to more people and, as it turns out, some people who couldn't afford them.
Fannie and Freddie have also been places for big Washington Democrats to go to work in the semi-private sector and pocket millions. The Clinton administration's White House Budget Director Franklin Raines ran Fannie and collected $50 million. Jamie Gorelick — Clinton Justice Department official — worked for Fannie and took home $26 million. Big Democrat Jim Johnson, recently on Obama's VP search committee, has hauled in millions from his Fannie Mae CEO job

In my experience, lazs is not filled with hate or prejudice. Rather, he is a powerfully astute observer of the world around him as he sees it. He is more aptly described, by me at least, as a reliable reactionary. An indicator. His is not a position of predisposed opinion, but rather a well developed opinion that is made up from his own life experience. That is what you do not like about him. But to be fair at a minimum, he is honest, sincere and believable.
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

If your argument carried any validity beyond morose naivete in use of my own argument (poorly) in response I might concede some level of prescience. However you lack any form of cognitive formulation of your own and regurgitating even the most genius of viewpoints still makes you no more responsive than a parrot. This is the after effect of brainwashing. Your mind has been washed clean of any ability to conceive of original concepts. You are a drone. You cant think for yourself. Like most liberals you are an unfeeling unthinking zombie controlled by 'moods' and 'feelings' and 'fads.' You are one of 'them.' The enemy.

Your statement ends in nonsense. "Like most liberals you are an unfeeling unthinking zombie controlled by 'moods' and 'feelings' and 'fads.' You are one of 'them.' The enemy."
How is someone an unfeeling zombie if they are controlled by 'feelings'. Contradicting yourself before even finishing a sentence is generally a no-no in the debate world. Might want to look for some solid ground before firing back again.
