Maybe its best you not tell a squaddy of mine about this, he is into this crap as well. <S> :salute
-
Already made kids bleed at the new air soft battlefield down the street. My assault rifle really knows how to scare people, just the sound is terrifying much less the fact of being hammered down by it :D
-
Its funny, that green gas tank, can blow up a good chunk of a house and cause serious fire. So many warnings about it exploding, yet i carry it around like it wasn't a bomb lol :joystick:
-
Did you know the battery in your cell phone is just about as dangerous? So, danger boy, what's next on the agenda? Scaring penguins into jumping off ice cliffs?
-
I could leave my cell phone in the sunshine for a bit, the instructions say no direct sunlight
-
play paintball

Green gas is just propane, buy an adapter and don't waste your money.
Then again, considering you've got a JG, a WE and some other random Chinese pistol... ;)

What is the purpose of these guns? Not to be a smart alec, I'm just curious.
They fire soft pellets correct? Are they suitable for targets? and they don't mark with paint so are they suitable for games?
What do you guys do with them?
-
as far as i know its the same as paintball just with smaller projectiles and (obviously) no paint.

Just like paintball without paint.
The guns are a lot more realistic looking so there's an element of 'sim' to it. It's like playing Aces High as compared to Ace Combat or some other console flight game. Less fast-paced, smaller demographic, but it also has the capability to go more 'sim', although there's no law saying that you can't just enjoy it for the fun and completely disregard that possibility. Like AH :)

Like Motherland said, paintball without paint. I used to play quite a bit, but now that I'm old enough, I'm discovering a real gun is only a little more expensive than Air Soft (In some cases, cheaper) so I've moved on to that.
-
So you shoot em at each other like paintballs?
How do you determine who wins if there's no paint?
Back when I was playing paintball most of the guns were pump action. I've seen some of the latest semi autos that look like M-16's and AK's.
Wish we had those back then.

Basically, it's an honor system. When I played, all that was available were large indoor fields. When you get shot, you basically put your hands over your head and walk off the field. It's relatively easy to tell when you hit someone at close range, and most guys were all honorable about walking off when they got hit. (After all, you don't wanna piss off the guy who's already shot you!).
My draw to airsoft over paintball was just the guns. I like the realistic appearance. If they managed to do it with paintball, I may have gone for that too.

I recently saw a paintball gun very similar in appearance to an M-16/AR-15, except barrel diameter of course.
That would have been a lot cooler than the goofy looking things we had back in those days.
Of course back in those days I probably wouldn't have been able to afford one.

I've seen a few cheap ones at WalMart which were pretty ugly, but that's walmart lol.

Interesting. Why not add a small sparkpug into barrel and get a serious increase in muzzle velocity. :lol

Its the Honor system, if you get hit you call hit and respawn. Thing about airsoft aside from painball is its more realistic, guns look real.

Chinese pistol? My dragon is an assault rifle?

I would save up your money and buy Japanese or European airsoft guns as opposed to Chinese stuff I own a TM AUG and a TM G36K

Squid got into it when he was 14 or so and I started digging into it. Wound up buying both of us a couple of Beretta gas blowbacks. They shoot a teflon or plastic pellet at varying FPS. There weren't any fields close to us but he and his friends found a creek bed to play in. I enjoyed mine and got a lot of laughs plinking squirrels.
They are fairly effective for getting the attention of a recalcitrant canine or teenager as well. No I didn't shoot the dog but throwing a round into a corner near them once was enough to make them go 'nope not me I wasn't barking after you told me to shut up' when they heard the slide jack. Teenagers? well one in the thigh when they had their dog ears on is an attention getter.

Hell, they have fully automatic paintball guns now. Insanity.
I've never tried airsoft... what is the typical range of the projectiles out of, say, a rifle look-a-like (as opposed to a short barreled pistol thing)? Accuracy?
-

QFT. Bought one or two cheapos as a kid (About $100 each). They were fun, but not too much accuracy. I got lucky on a spring which shot a MUCH higher FPS than advertised, but the other was, well, it's money's worth.
Moved on to a Tokyo Marui M-16 vietnam edition... beautiful! Cost about $500 all said and done to get the FPS bumped up to a reasonable number, and ship to me, but it was worth it! I sold her before I left Hawaii, and was gonna buy a new one here... never got around to it though.

With my spring 'sniper' rifle, at about 475 fps, (Higher end for casual matches) I kept it inside 200 yards. With the 6x optical zoom scope it came with, accuracy was... well... indoors without and wind, I could probably hit a person at 100 yards. 200 was just to shoot trees and general areas.

F22RaptorDude,
Do you know why I'd throw you out of my range facility based on these photos alone? I'd offer you to come back to take a beginners firearm safety course but you'd be asked to leave for what you're doing.
Fix it. Don't do it again. Certainly don't post pictures of being a bad example and forming some very dangerous habits.
-
I don't like the kid golfer but he isn't doing anything unsafe he is actually being sacred because he is buying low quality guns that aren't powerful or accurate I used to go out and have fun in the woods with my airsoft guns when I was a bit younger we would wear saftey glasses and have battles for hours it is all good fun and doesn't support bad habits when handling real firearms
-
I'm sorry, I dont get it. if its based on an honor system why not run around the woods with cap guns? (like I did as a kid). Why would you spend a bunch of money on something that doesnt give you any feedback as to whether or not you actually hit something. I must be missing something here.

Here is some new ammo I picked up for my sidearm.

This ammo can actually follow a moving target.

This ammo is good for non moving targets and has more bite

I think golfer is refering to the pictures of him holding the gun with his finger on the trigger when he is in a situation that gives him no reason to have his finger on the trigger. Basic firearm safety - finger off trigger until ready to fire, it doesn't matter what it shoots. Embarrassing story - I have a old gun shot scar on my upper leg because I didn't use this basic rule, the bullet caused slight damage to the nerve cluster as it passed though my leg (at least thats what the doc said), and now I live with occasional pain because of it. I was very lucky for being so very unlucky/stupid. All that said, I have an airsoft tommy gun that is great for scaring the neghborhood dogs out of my front lawn. :)

Crap now that you mention it i forgot that rule, but those pictures of me with my finger on the trigger were the day after Christmas. Just saying i know it doesn't justify anything but the clip was empty, battery not in the gun, Safety and pointed at the floor. Plus my low cap clips don't work at all.

Cause you feel the bb's hit you, just because you aim at someone and shoot doesn't mean that you hit them.

I've fired real fire arms, carried them around and stuff like that. I don't put my finger next to the trigger until I'm ready to shoot. And even kinda had to make sure it was ok to shoot a seconds time. And um these are not low quality guns. My Dragon was 250 bucks, my 1911 was $105, and the other was $160! Low quality my butt dude :rofl :rofl :rofl

I keep one of these under my desk in my office. Never now when a Nerf war will break out in that place.

Was thinking the same thing... I used to play collegiate level paintball. I had at least $1,200 into my ICD Freestyle not counting the 45/45 tank and Halo hopper, and that was nothing compared to the guys with $2K+ Egos, DM6s, Timmys, etc. Spent about $80 a weekend in paint too, plus travel and tournament entrance fees. It was an expensive hobby.
The difference with Paitball and airsoft as I see it, is that airsoft is more of a military combat scenario game. Whereas paintball is more of a fast paced action team sport. There are fewer and fewer paintballers into scenarios and military stuff, I think airsoft has taken over that niche. Most of the paintball market now is in the more sport-like fast paced speedball or x-ball games. With international pro leagues like PSP and NPPL it seems that way to me.
I played paintball from the mid 90's through 2006, and while I started out sneaking around in the woods, after a couple years I got into speedball and never played "woodsball" again. Playing a fast paced team game on a standard inflatable field, is a lot more fun to me then sneaking around for hours in the trees.

I'd like an open field, plus the place i go to play at, is building an outdoor course so i'ma do sniper cover cause i'm more of like that.

you ever shot a real sniper rifle?
other than the M-24, which i train on a few times each month, i've shot the AW .338 LAPUA MAG, Cheytac .416, Mossin Nagant, Garand, 30-06 Kragg, list goes on.... all these rounds kick like a mule.
i've also had some trigger time on the M-82 .50 cal BMG. if it wasn't for the blowback in the barrel, i would not have a shoulder left :lol

I have an old spyder paintball gun that i got when i was about 14. Ive had it for 7 years and its still going strong. On the other hand my Tippmann A-5 cost me about $400 all together with the flatline barrel and upgraded trigger systems. It works just fine for me.

hey i was all into paintball at your age.
right around the time that the tippman A-5 first came out. i installed a flatline barrel, loved picking off my friends from more than 50 yds. away :D
btw are you or is anyone in your family a hunter? if so, welcome to the addiction :D

18 and older. Had a married couple come in and play a few days ago. Had a 50 year old man play with his M4. I myself was actually hit my some camper noobs in a building called the kill house. Got me in the neck full auto and it was dripping blood. Knee got messed up to, and i have a blood blister on my trigger finger

BS
unless you had speed jacked up to like 600fps which is extremely dangerous and stupid.

As cool as that story sounds, I'm quite sure you couldn't hit the side of a barn at 10ft. with that "AEG" of yours. As for the rest of your story, I'm willing to place a low start of $100 that it is a huge exaggeration, anyone else want to bet on it?

Have you used the gun he is talking about? Given the right conditions (no wind) its not impossible, its is a hell of a shot but its not impossible.
-
Have you used the gun he is talking about? Given the right conditions (no wind) its not impossible, its is a hell of a shot but its not impossible.
Do you play paintball?
Let me explain a few of the factors for you.
1) Paintballs are made out of a shell filled with liquid paint, the shell is made in 2 halves, it has a seam. Because of this seam even the best paintballs will curve somewhat after they loose so much velocity, it has nothing to do with wind. At 50yds you'd be hard pressed to shoot a grouping tighter then 6 feet, and that is with the best marker, best barrel, compressed air, and best paint. And a Tipmann is FAR from the best marker, in my experience they chop paint like mad, and he was likely using CO2, which causes velocity dips and spikes wrecking havoc with the accuracy.
2) Paintball markers are not used in games at speeds greater then 300fps for safety reasons. 50yds is 150'. 150/300 is half a second flight time. Except it's not really, the ball leaves the barrel at 300fps, but paintballs are big .68 inches to be exact, and they slow down quickly, by 50yds I'd bet they've slowed down by at least 30% (which means you'd get lots of bounces too). Plus that pesky thing called gravity means at that distance you will be lobbing the paint in there with quite a curve, so the parabola actually makes the flight longer. So at 150' the flight time will be close to an entire second, maybe longer, and the balls will be moving quite slowly.
3) The point of the game of paintball is to NOT get hit, therefore the target will either be 90% concealed (just the head sticking out) or moving very quickly. Paintballs are also easily spotted when they are coming at you, or whizzing by. At that range a first shot hit is impossible, even at 30' a first shot hit is tough, it usually takes a few balls to "walk the rope" into the target. The other player will see or hear the first couple whizz by, and will with such slow projectiles at that distance will have plenty of time to react.
4) Those Flatline barrels claim to increase accuracy (not range, only speed can do that) by spinning the paintball. Makes sense people say, after all a rifle is more accurate then a smooth bore firearm. Except with paintballs it doesn't work that way, remember they are filled with liquid paint, so no matter how hard you try to spin then, it just doesn't do much. For an example take a raw egg out and try to spin it on the counter, then try a hard boiled egg, you'll see what I mean. Over the years I've used dozens of different paintball bolts and barrels, some that claim to "spin" the ball, some barrels that are even rifled. I can tell you from experience the best paintball barrels are tapered smoothbore with a muzzle break, anything longer then 14" is pointless too. Basically all those Flatline barrel claims are just marketing BS, and I think some buyers delude themselves into believing it so they won't have buyers remorse. They may be more accurate then the stock barrel, but nearly any aftermarket barrel is.
To summarize, he claims to repeatedly hit a target no bigger then a human head, or moving at full sprint, with a projectile that takes a full second to get there, with accuracy at best in the 6' range, but probably less. I could believe that it happened once, maybe a lucky once in a lifetime shot, but to suggest the he can "pick people off" from 50yds at will, nope... ... paintball markers just do not have the range, sorry.
I still say
BS
-
Branch, he's talking airsoft, not paintball. Very different projectile size and slightly different internal mechanisms.
-
It doesn't; I've been lit up like a christmas tree from point blank by some idiot first timer with a high powered plastic gun like yours.
No offense, but your sorta a moron. This is a high brand gun, it is a full metal body except some parts on the outer case. Full Metal Gearbox and a high powered motor!

No offense to you, I've been airsofting for about a year and a half if not longer (No I'm not an expert by any means), and going at least once a week even during school. Your "full metal" gearbox is most likely some cheap Zinc alloy or as airsofters like to say, pot metal, this also includes your "full metal" body. And your high end motor? It probably couldn't pull a m130-m140 spring for its life.

You guys are cute.
I hate it when people post such BS on my stuff and i can't erase it.

You guys are cute.
I'm guessing that means you're betting $150 then right?
Sorry, but it just sounds like he's making a joke of Airsofting. It's both a serious and fun sport, until he shows a picture of his neck squirting blood all over the camera lens, everything he has said sounds like a lie.

Branch, he's talking airsoft, not paintball. Very different projectile size and slightly different internal mechanisms.
Even worse then, airsoft has no weight to it.
-
I just shoot them because they are fun to shoot and I don't have to drive 40 miles to be able to. But that's me. The local squirrel populace hates me.
I don't doubt that a mid to high range airsoft weapon could draw blood under the right (or wrong) conditions though.
I took mine to the office one day to show the owners son and, like an idjit, he pointed it at the window and pulled the trigger. It dented the blinds and cracked the window.
My response 'nice going there superstar'.
I don't let him play with weapons around me anymore.

So what?
You're all bent out of shape because when you dress up to play soldier he says he bruises or bleeds if he's hit? What of it? You need to justify your case citing a whopping 18 months of experience with the sport then make fun of his gear? To what end? I played competitive paintball once upon a time in college and while we'd get a little welt or a bruise when the markers were turned up to 11 in some events as well as in some rec games with slower FPS limitations. Some guys didn't. I know I bruise pretty easily when carrying a heavy load or when I spend the day shooting. If I go to a trap, skeet, sporting clay or 3 gun match my right shoulder (and less so on my left depending on strong side/weak side rifle/shotgun shooting) will be bruised. Other guys and gals don't. Some guys did actually bleed a little bit from paintball hits so depending on the range, weight of the BB, velocity at the muzzle and what they're wearing I can see some guys bleeding if they get hit just right. That isn't going to make me want to insult their gear or get into an internet noodle measuring contest over it.
So the argument you guys are having...it's cute.

So Golfer who is the woman in your avatar?

Wasn't squirting blood, was dripping cause I bleed out a bit before it stops. Still like i said got ambushed by a camper noon from close range with a nearly 400 FPS gun. He was using .20 bb's, and it was more his fault cause its semi only in the killhouse (Building i was in) and even then its not advised. Safety kills are more, effective I should say. And about my finger being on the trigger, I'm sorry bout that but the Dragon does weigh 10 pounds and i had my other hand with the camera, needed my finger there for stability.

Allow me to be the first to call BS on this one.
BS
unless you had speed jacked up to like 600fps which is extremely dangerous and stupid.
50 yds is very doable with an A-5 and a flatline. The flatline is a bit of a double edged sword. Ya, it goes far... The trajectory takes some getting used to though.

She wouldn't have to bring beer and I'd buy the crackers ;)

Well I already explained why that claim is BS. I guess a Tipmann and a Flatline somehow are not effected by those pesky laws of physics. Explain to me how this magical barrel makes paint fly farther???? Like I said velocity is the only way to get more distance, and if your shooting at > 300fps, you would get chewed out and kicked off of any field I've ever played at. I don't know what you mean about trajectory either, trajectory has nothing to do with range or accuracy. I can change the trajectory of any gun... ... it's called point it higher. :aok
I'm sure someone with more knowledge with ballistics would back me up here. A .68 caliber, liquid filled ball, with a seam around it, and a muzzle velocity of < 300fps @150ft. Like I said before that adds up to is a flight time of nearly a full second, and groupings of about 6ft if your lucky.
I'd feel pretty dang confident behind a bunker, or sprinting @ 50yds with those facts.

Yes i do play paintball and i didnt say I was a sniper with 100% accuracy at that range..I said it was possible.

Yeah like I said, it could have happened. Maybe a lucky shot while just lobbing paint once or twice. But he was suggesting he could "pick people off" at will at that distance, I think that's an exaggeration.
-
I'm sorry, I dont get it. if its based on an honor system why not run around the woods with cap guns? (like I did as a kid). Why would you spend a bunch of money on something that doesnt give you any feedback as to whether or not you actually hit something. I must be missing something here.
It's just like dodgeball. You don't just look at eachother and say 'you're out', but there's no binding thing like paint to keep you honest.
Once you need some mechanism to keep people honest it's not worth it anymore.
The lack of paint also keeps airsoft from going competitive, which is nice.
It IS cheaper, too.
My Dragon was 250 bucks, my 1911 was $105, and the other was $160! Low quality my butt dude :rofl :rofl :rofl
That just means you're a terrible shopper. A Chinese gun for over $150? :rofl

To my knowledge the flatline barrel puts a backspin on the ball that makes the ball curve upwards when it starts to lose velocity and drop making it fly farther. It dosnt make it any faster, it just makes it go a little farther. I would feel pretty confident at those ranges too but I have seen it happen. And yes the flight time is pretty long and anyone paying attention could most likely see it coming and simply step out of the way but it is possible.
