As for you attack on Banshee. He was stating his opinion. If he can't state his then your can't either.... geeesh.

And stated it rather well, for a younger gent, it seems like he has his priorities in line, and a good head on his shoulders, he explained his point very well and did not at all sound like a little kid whining. Attacking him for voicing his opinion is just lame.

Banshee, in reading what you wrote, its great to see a younger fello with a work ethic, and sense of responsibility like yours. Kudos sir, you and your parents should be proud <S>

Banshee7, why don't you go blather your strawman somewhere else.  Your post is wrong and idiotic.  You are loony if you think a seven year old computer should still be supported, let alone catered to.

Karnak:

You "idiotically" misinterpreted my post.  If you comprehend things outside of 5th grade reading level you would understand exactly what I meant.  I was not even remotely referring to how a 7 year old computer should still be supported.  I CLEARLY stated that the update was not bothering me at all.  READ, son, READ!  Or should I draw pictures on how to safely remove your head from your ass?

My post was targeted toward the people that only talk about how people need to upgrade their computers blah blah blah blah my computer is better than yours blah blah blah no helpful information at all.  You know, the ones who don't take into consideration the real life issues of others?

I'm simply saying that this GAME is not my entire life.  It has degraded from a hobby to something I might do in my spare time.  NOT because my computer can't handle it, but because I have more important things to do.

I never stated my opinion on whether or not HTC should bend over backwards to support 7 year old systems.  Hell I clearly said I don't care.  The graphics and eye candy don't affect the fight.  All they do is make the game look "pretty."

tried that
intel dual 3.0`s
8800gts 320meg 3 gigs crucial ram
so its not a slow pc and it stutters with out without detail
anymore bright ideas?

btw i run pacific fighter at full detail maxed out

You've got issues because you should be playing with max everything.  My processor is about the same, my video card better but not by much.  I would suggest you upgrade to windows 7 ultimate beta.  Free until June of next year I believe.

You have to figure out what is going on, games like this aren't going to run the same as games where the numbers are limited to less than 32 or 64 players in a zone.

Have a 4 year old HP machine with an AMD Athlon processor that ran the old version reasonably well...spent money to upgrade to a new graphics card and memory when the new version came out....still cannot run any of the advanced graphics without a stutter and with all the advance graphics shut down I can play the game, however the stability of my frame rate fluctuates from 7 to 60 for no apparent reason ( I have tried to read the forums and have tried to find a solution).

Will I upgrade to a machine that will run the new version (this is the only video game I play)....sure, eventually - I do enjoy the game and the gamers enough to make the investment.  Will it be right away.....probably not, like many - real world comes first.

I do have confidence that HTC will make an effort to try to incorporate some degree of backward compatibility so that my (and others) game play experience is restored to the norm we were used to (I would have thought that the deletion of all the advance graphics would have provided that -it hasn't for me) ....if not, I hope they attract enough new players (or keep enough of their current base of players that are not experiencing what I am) with this upgrade so that the game is still around when I get to the point I can buy a new machine. Doesn't mean I am going to quit the game entirely, just due to the experience and frustration, probably won't be on as much.

BTW - I did go to the BETA forum quite a bit and did not rembember having the problems I am having now.

In case I forgot to mention - I do think that HTC did a bang up job on the update, the planes look great and the new terrain and water look awesome - when I can run it.  I just hope that in the spirit of customer relations, the issues (which it does seem like a lot of us are experiencing) are sorted out.  This is a great game!

now, i don't mean to sound rude, but here goes...I think there are 3 problems at work here. 1. HTC used the same graphic engine for so long, that it got people with very low end systems hooked, and now that they cant handle the game anymore, they are pissed. 2. Some of the problems occurring with high end systems are being mistaken for poor hardware performance when the real problem is just a bug that will be sorted out in the next few weeks. 3. Being that this game is an "older" demographic consisting of people who generally don't game other than AH2, they don't really know much about hardware and how it works. Ive noticed that there are a lot of very confused people asking for hardware help in game. I think a lot of people assume upgrading, or even buying a new system that will handle this game is going to cost them in the thousands. They dont know how to go about finding a good deal, knowing what is going to run the game, being able to find good used parts, etc... On ebay, there are a lot of deals on refurbished, and used business class machines that have P4 3.0ghz HT processors, complete with AGP port. Throw in a decent agp card from a couple years ago, and you have a very nice system to play on. Less than $175.00 in most cases. I know because I just did that very thing for a friend. He doesn't play AH, but he plays other games that run great. Thats just an example...building a completely new system can be done cheaply as well if you know where to look. I think a lot of people have the money, but just dont want to spend it, or they just dont want the hassle of upgrading. If the anti-progress crowd got what they wanted last time HTC did this, we would still be flying AH1 which IMO is far inferior to what we have now. IMO, if you are clever, and creative enough, or are willing to ask for help, there should be no reason why 90% of people couldn't upgrade to play the new game.  If you are in the percentage that just absolutely cant, then I truly am sorry. Looks like you got screwed this time. Trust me when I say the game will be around for a while...you can always save up a little at a time and then join us again when you are able to.

TB some like the OP of this thread have no idea about computers. There is a lot of hardware and software out there and not all of it plays together friendly. Some think just throwing money at a machine will make it better. They have been and remain clueless.

Let me tell you something, your right that why I had a skilled builder to do it for me and to answer any questions I have which was my point of the post (try reading)

The bottom line is, if everyone who can play the game just fine now, traded places with those that can't, the people "whining" would be everyone who is playing the game just fine now.  I don't want to wish ill on anyone but some day you may be on the short end of the stick and I just wonder how you would feel when you received the same posts your dealing out to your fellow AH gamers.  If you have a spare card or whatever for someone, or some helpful advice please share.  If you only have sarcasm and negative comments just keep them to yourself.  AH is in itself a great game but the players and the AH community make it exceptional.

I do not agree with this. Many of the people playing the game fine now are there for 1 of 3 reasons. 1) They could already run the patch fine  2) They called HTC and respectfully worked with Skuzzy and his people to resolve their issues. 3) They did the smallest bit of research, fixed their problem either with adjustments to their system or minor upgrades that lets face it, you spend more money on silly stuff like: smokes/Movies/Cable TV/That new muffler for your 4wheel drive that (rivals bigfoot in size)  so people can hear you 3 miles away.. a month then you could on what  would be needed to get your system running this game just fine.

The whiners are the same ones that whined before the patch or expect HTC to conform to their idea's of what this game should be like, rather then the ones that own and build it. They want all the rewards, none of the work and responsibility and to hold a company in the stone age for their benefit at the cost of HTC's future.

To answer your first question, if I could not run the game right now, I would do a little reading, make a few calls and fix the problem. If that means I needed to upgrade my system then I would find a a way to save a little cash here and there to fix it. Hell I stopped Smoking for 6months because I wanted a new toy. Pretty sure not everything in your current life is "NEEDED".  Budget your money and upgrade your system. In all honesty when your operating system and computer is no longer supported in 10 years, are you going to call Bill Gates and say HEY, my 20 year old PC is not supported anymore!!!

Karnak... you obviously are not savy as computers go. The person your talking about may have a much better machine than yours. How new a machine is does not necessarily affect how it will run the game.
Actually I am very familiar with computers.

No, he wasn't, he was attacking all of those for whom the update is causing no problems as being unemployed, living in mom's basement using a high end computer purchased by mommy.  That is roadkill.

As the sole bread winner supporting my family of five on a lousy $14K per month, living on 10 acres out of town where you can raise your own food (fortunately), in a 14x60 mobile home (with its own improvement challenges) in the arse-end of eastern Oregon, I can tell you that upgrading my PC is something I was holding off until next spring. I've got a '95 Buick with computer problems (money out), still owe the dentist several hundred despite the limited "benefits" my stone-age job has (money out).

The only thing that enables me to squeeze a few bucks out for PC upgrade is that we are not exorbidantly in debt with the bank, credit card outfits, nothing. Everything we own is paid for. I have heard from most of the local farmers here that this area (Malheur County, Oregon) is a place that you can make a living, but not much beyond that. If you're smart with your money and don't get into unrecoverable debt, especially now that the economy is crap, you can manage to squeeze an upgrade here & there if you need to.

Ahem.... 14K a month sure ain't nothing to sneeze at there Eggster!  I'm sure that was a typo bro.  I know where you are comming from Bro as I've got 4 kids and 4 Grandkids.  I'm just glad my youngest is 28!  But the wifey and I help out with the grandkids as much as we can.

While I do agree with your statement and if that was the case then it would be true, but I do want reemphasize that thinking forward in the computer world is what will keep these problems to a minimum, nobody can tell the future but can take a lession from the past, just as it has been mentioned by other AH members computer upgrades are going to happen it is up to you and your personal situation as to if or when. I thought that a separate forum for those who need help in making these adjustments, now I know have the hardware and technical support forums we could use those but I think this would be better to have it strictly for posting your systems and settings. The experienced AH computer guys can then guide you through your system settings to get the most out of what you have at this time or at least point you in the right direction if you need new components. We have a lot of talented people that play this game and I'm sure they would have no problem and be happy to help giving any one of us a hand.

I took 2.14 as an excellent point to step away for a while, maybe for a long while.

I used to upgrade regularly to fly online. I was a serious addict for quite a long while. I built my own special purpose gaming rigs myself (Never cutting edge stuff. I firmly believe in buying technology that is a year old)

But I have known for quite a while I have been living in the past. And I stopped upgrading my gaming rig as a consequence. It has even gone through a series of downgrades the last year (smaller monitor, ancient video card, etc etc.)

Game play isn't changing. Not that I have a problem with the Main Arena as it stands now. It is fun and where the real money lies.

But I would like a place where historical re-creation was an available alternative. And that is the past I have been living in.

And it will never happen. HTC has made it abundantly obvious to me.

So I deleted my account a few days ago. It can't run the 2.14 without a new video card. The new video card is sitting on my printer as I type. Instead of installing it and downloading the update and tweaking it all I found it much easier to just delete my account.

I suspect many of the folks dissatisfied with the update are in the same boat I was in. $16.03 an month isn't much but when faced with buying and installing new equipment for exactly the same game play one begins to evaluate the situation. In my case I spent the money for the hardware but I'm not motivated enough to even install it.

When that happens its time to go.

So.......AMF :)

Yeah, I had a brainfart moment there. :lol Someone gracefully pointed that out to me and I clarified it in return. As said, at $1,400 a month, it's a squeeze on the ol' pocket book. :)
